Pablo was in for a procedure under anaesthetic, and we noticed he had a painful swelling between his toes. On examination, the vet believed it to be an interdigital cyst (inflamed and infected tissue between the toes).
At MCVC, we have recently purchased a Phovia Light Therapy Lamp...
"Phovia is a novel way to manipulate the function of cells within the dermis and epidermis (layers of the skin) to reduce inflammation but still accelerate regeneration.
It is a two-part system, comprising a LED lamp and a chromophore gel, used together they produce multi-wavelength fluorescent light energy that can penetrate the skin to variable depths. Unlike other systems, Phovia is capable of triggering different beneficial responses at different levels."
We used the Phovia light therapy on Pablos interdigital cyst. As it is new, we were keen to see how it responded as reports suggested it as a good treatment for interdigital cysts.
We saw Pablo a week later, and the cyst had fully resolved! He was comfortable and infection free and required no antibiotics on this occasion!
As well as interdigital cysts, Phovia is indicated in assisting and speeding up wound healing. Do ask us more if you are interested!

As we continue into May celebrating 20 years of the BVNA campaigning to raise awareness of veterinary nursing, we wanted to share some of the things our nurses do.
All our qualified nurses are Registered Veterinary Nurses on a register held by the Royal Veterinary College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Nurses are highly skilled professionals who have all been trained to a very high standard at MCVC. We are a training practice, so we have the privilege of training our own nurses.
So what do nurses do? The list is endless! Here is a selection of things an RVN may do in a day:
- Anaesthesia
- Radiography
- Bandaging
- Nurse consults for health checks, advice, weight loss, nail clipping, ear cleaning, etc
- Inpatient care
- Dental teeth scaling
- Grief support and end of life care
- Dispensing medications
- Blooding sampling
- Blood pressure measuring
- ECGs
- Assist in surgery
- Cleaning and infection control
- Lab technician
- Ordering medications
- Triage emergencies
With that being said, RVN Helen has put a video together of our nurses in action!

This month, the British Veterinary Nursing Association is celebrating 20 years of campaigning during the month of May to raise awareness of veterinary nursing
Therefore, we thought it would be great to share some of the amazing things our veterinary nurses get up to!
We are so lucky at MCVC to have 12 Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVN) and 3 Student Veterinary Nurses (SVN). They are highly skilled at the many things they do, so watch this space to find out more!
The first, most important quality to have as a VN is love and treat all animals as if they were your own. We know it can be daunting leaving your pet in our care, but we hope to reassure you that our nurses do everything to make your pet feel at ease
We think the gorgeous Boycie here might agree...🥰

How cute are Sian's (Vet Nurse) ducklings! Can anyone guess what breed they are?

We want to make our patients feel as pain free and at ease as possible when in hospital and having IV catheters placed or having blood samples taken. Here are a few small things we do to help them ❤️ #veterinarylife
We are able to run blood tests in-house on our Index blood machines, including biochemistry, electrolytes, haematology and a selection of additional tests. We also have a courier every night to take samples to an external lab for advanced or specific testing. Here is how it is done! #bloodtest #veterinarylife
Molly was presented to the surgery frantically shaking her head. We suspected she had something in her ear and on examination the vet found a grass seed. She was sedated and the grass seed successfully removed! Molly was a star patient and a very sweet girl! #veterinarylife #grassseed #spaniel
