For one day only.

So today at dog school we opened the pop up Sophia and Kate dog school Cafe... All in aid of training and Kate's birthday 🎂🎉🎂🎉
Well done everyone.
Great classes and everyone and their dogs did really well with food, drinks and other people and dogs. A great exercise to prepare dogs for visits to Cafe and pubs .

Would you know what to do if you, your dog or a friend or other person was being attacked by a dog?
Please read this article as it's good sound advice.
DO NOT SCREAM, SHOUT etc as the article says this will only make matters worst.

Hitting, kicking, punching or smacking a dog that is attacking your dog/yourself/a child is the equivalent of telling someone to Calm down in an argument !
It only serves to agitate and aggravate the situation!
A dog who is in fight mode/ prey drive and is attacking is firstly… unlikely to feel any pain from physical contact in the moment they are attacking - and secondly… if they do feel pain, it will likely agitate them more and potentially cause them to bite the victim
harder!
It’s really difficult for me to watch some of the attack videos recently with people waving lightweight objects around a dog who is latched on to another dog seemingly to inflict pain to stop an attack.
The force needed to be effective would have to be enough to knock the attacking animal out and this is unlikely considering the dog that attacked and sadly killed it’s owner this week was shot 4 times to stop it…4 times!!!

So please remember in a dog attack if you’re ever unfortunate to be involved or on the scene… human force against a powerful breed is futile. A slip lead or similar to choke the attacking dog is the fastest and most reliable way of ensuring the dog releases the bite.

We need to be more aware of the correct approach to dealing with dog attacks now I know this is an uncomfortable conversation but having this information out there could be saving lives!

Paws for thought.

This article is written by one of a couple of trainers I follow from up North.
She has been in the industry as long as I have and I find her work so refreshing.
I had to share her article as it's something I bang on about.

A big mistake I see owners making when socialising their pup is confusing pack interactions with socialisation!
For instance: “I have 4 dogs already and I’ve socialised my pup with them so she doesn’t need anymore socialising”
Inter-pack relationships aren’t socialising experiences. So not matter how many dogs you have…your pup still needs to mix and learn to play with pups outside the pack!

Transient pack members don’t count either! So here is Gorgeous George with my dogs..this is a transient pack. George comes to stay with us regularly as he is owned by my cousin…and when he is here my dogs accept him as part of the pack for the short times he is with us. Meaning his interactions with my dogs are not socialising they are part of the pack dynamic - George still needed to socialise with pups when he was younger not just my dogs and the dogs he lives with!
For instance: “my puppy has been well socialised with my family member’s dogs”
No, they have integrated into a transient pack and that doesn’t count as socialising as they see them all the time!

So many owners have been caught out with this and wondered why the socialisation their pup did with family and friend’s dogs didn’t seem to “work”

NB - Evil Edna didn’t want to be part of this photo shoot so had some gentle assistance from her stunt coordinator Big Dave 🤦‍♀️

Mantrailing afternoon.

Well done to everyone who attended our Mantrailing session this afternoon. All the dogs did brilliantly along with handlers and the 'dead' bodies.

Three trails each and now dogs and handlers are pooped out.

See you all again soon. S x
