Goatacre farm offers children and their families early learning experiences in our unique village setting. We endeavour to encourage and inspire children to learn and flourish through play and exploration. Sensory areas, role play, arts and crafts, team building and messy play are just some of the exciting activities that will be on offer, not forgetting meeting our friendly animals who are always waiting for a cuddle!!

Her leg was stabilised yesterday and placed in a “sling/brace” unfortunately she wriggled out of this in the night and we ended up in the vets again this morning (3rd visit in 4 days 🤪) it’s more secure now and she is on small cage rest over the weekend whilst she gets used to things 🩷
🩷🐹 Desperate Plea for Funds 🐹🩷
This week we have taken in this little lady, Flower, she is only young and sadly fell from the arm of a sofa and has broken her leg 😢 her owners couldn’t afford to take her to the vets so we stepped in.
We have been in talks with our vets and specialists and options for her are limited and expensive ranging from £1,200 to £3,000
All little animals lives matter to us, and we want her to be able to live a full live with her sister who she loves very much, however as it always seems, funds may prevent us from doing this 💔😢
Our vets are going to do their best to splint and repair Flower’s leg today, if this doesn’t work we may need to look at amputation.

They cracked on with painting loads of the fences around the sanctuary, mucking out, grooming and feeding the residents, as well as stripping the sheep’s beds and making up a new bed for our big pigs.

We have lots of messages each day asking when we are going to be open again.
Sadly, due to personal circumstances beyond my control we haven’t been able to be as active in fundraising and having open days this year.
The only reason the Sanctuary has still been able to function is due to my absolutely INCREDIBLE volunteers who have been holding me & the Sanctuary up, during what has been one of the most difficult times of my life.
Due to this, Sanctuary funds are almost non existent and I’m self funding, which is of course something I will always do when I can. The bills for feed, rent, vets, hay, water, electric etc etc don’t just stop.
We are working hard to get the Sanctuary up together to invite our lovely followers to visit but in the mean time if you are able to support by sharing our posts, sending a small donation or something from our wish list that would be amazing 🤩

My sweet sweet boy Charlotte has been so incredibly poorly over the last couple of weeks, completely fading away, with this coming to a head on Friday when I had made arrangements for us to part ways 💔
As lots of you know, Charlotte has diabetes and is insulin dependent, he was struggling with the heat, a potential infection and had started to refuse food. Anyone who knows pigs will know that a pig that won’t eat is a very sick pig 😞
I had some talks with Charlotte and a couple of hours before his appointment we gave it one last push, I drenched him in water and a cold towel, gave strong pain relief, checked his sugar levels and fed him apple juice 💚 - unbelievably he began to pick up so we talked again and decided to give it the weekend…
This evening he is stood at the gate shouting at me for dinner 😭😭
I have a very special relationship with this boy and I will never put him through more than he can handle, and he handled this like the little warrior he is 🩵🩵🩵

Yesterday we were alerted to two bunnies that are in need of help, they aren’t in a good way and will need lots of TLC and vet care 🩵🩷 we are all set up and ready for their arrival at lunch time, I’ll update and share some more info once they are settled 🩷🩵
These photos show our set up for emergency accommodation, people often think that rabbits can live in hutches and have a run in the garden every now and again, but they need this space & more, every day, 24 hours a day!!! 🥰

This morning the lambs and goats have been vaccinated, along with helping our neighbours to do theirs too 🩷
Then it was off to Barkram’s Dog Grooming for these four for nail trims and a walk in the fields 😍
Sophie is so brilliant with them, none of them are fans of having their nails done but we were happily in and out within 20 minutes 🤩
🙏 Many thanks to a brilliant group from Monahans Chartered Accountants for undertaking a company volunteer day at the sanctuary today.
🐐 Lots of work completed, such as topping up the pigs beds, poo picking, cleaning out the goat pens and giving them a good brush, nettle picking, preparing their food and feeding the residents and cleaning the rabbits and guinea pig’s enclosure’s.

Welcoming Rocky to our crew 🩵 this gorgeous chap was saved from being “dispatched” by a well meaning family, sadly they weren’t able to keep him due to already having a boy and them not getting along.
Rocky wasn’t sure where to go to bed last night so I had to give him a helping hand…. I wasn’t impressed with the weather and he wasn’t impressed with me…. 😂

Valentino was found in his forever sleep this morning, he’s been with me since he was just 24 hours old and despite being the size of a small pony still frolicked to me when I called him, waiting for a bottom scratch.

With 5 dogs in the house the likelyhood of having one that’s poorly is quite high…
This week it’s Roxy’s turn who seems to be struggling with Kennel Cough 😔 she had a little vet check up yesterday, fingers crossed she is over the worst of it.
My old boy Hugo had kennel cough a couple of years ago that really knocked him, at the time I thought he wouldn’t recover, so I’m doing all I can to keep them separate.. whilst living in the same house 🤯🫠

My gorgeous big girl Honey has pretty much spent her whole week in the vets 😢 she’s really struggled with a tummy upset & suspected pancreatitis 💔
She’s my baby and I was so worried when she wouldn’t eat, looking so flat & sad 😞
Honey has been spending her days as a patient in the vets and coming home to me at night, neither of us have had much sleep, in-between all night belly rubs and toilet trips 😴
Chalkland Vets worked their magic on her and we are making progress, she is now at home, eating a little and her tail is beginning to wag 🩷
You’ve got this Honey Bee and in the meantime, I’ve got all the love and cuddles in the world for you 💛

Today the worst possible thing happened to my flock, a fox attack.
In the middle of the afternoon, just after our volunteers had left, a fox took nearly all my girls, my cockerel chaps and my sweet boy Harold.
He was defending his flock 😢

💛 Winnie 💛
Winnie left us on Monday 20th May, she happily got stuck into her favourite forage and had me by her side as she passed. She was ready, the sun was shining and the birds were singing.
After Winnie had left I sat peacefully on the bench with a cup of tea and thought what a pleasure it has been to care for her, to get to know her and to be able to make the kindest decision of all for her, thank you for choosing me Winn 💛
We chose to have a postmortem and this showed that Winnie was incredibly poorly with a large tumour on her liver, the decision was the right one and as always, rather a day too soon than a day too late.
Lots of love Winn, I love this photo - it reminds me that you were the sassiest, most stubborn goat I have even known 💛

I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words and donations towards Winnie’s care 💛
She had a lovely day in the sunshine and grass yesterday. I was so proud to have such a compassionate team of volunteers who supported me in carrying her out, keeping her safe, out of the sun, watered and clean 🩵
Sadly Winnie has made little improvement and she is tired, it’s her time, I know that now.
We will say our farewells first thing tomorrow morning, It’s the kindest decision I can make for her 🩷

They held a cake sale, a raffle and even sold tea towels made with the childrens self portraits!!

Tomorrow (Saturday 18th!) we are having a morning of cleaning up the Sanctuary and there are some big tasks to be done!!

Winnie’s farewell visit was booked for 8:30am yesterday… we cancelled it 🫣🩷
She absolutely isn’t out of the woods and we are still very mindful that that visit may come but she is showing some signs of improvement, she has a physio coming out tomorrow and we have just spent over £200 on an electric hoist to get her up; doing this myself, multiple times a day with a 70kg goat is literally back breaking 😬
We have had lots of vet visits and bloods tests so of course the bills are going up but what else can we do? 🥰

My gorgeous old girl Winnie is really struggling 😢 she’s been off her legs for over a week now and despite trying everything to support her to stand she is just too weak and uncomfortable, with what seems to be severe arthritis in her front legs 🥺 When Winnie came to us a few years ago her feet were so over grown and she was almost unable to stand, “walking” on her knees, we have worked so hard to give her a wonderful few years but now I fear that time is about to come to an end 💔 Today Winnie needed a little bath around her bottom and this ended with a lovely cooling face wash which she loved 🥹 along with eating lots of fresh forage 🧡 Despite the nips and head butts, I really do love you, you sassy old girl 🥺
🌸🐑 Violet Update 🐑🌸 Little Violet wasn’t getting on too well with her splints, we were having some success in helping her to walk but her feet were still turning in, making her quite uncomfortable. We had to make a new plan for her and she’s been in full casts for a week now and is taking it all in her stride! 😍 She is working hard to keep up with Tansy, although with the weight of her casts she gets tired quite quickly so takes lots of naps, especially when she can find a spot in the sunshine 🥹 Her casts will be removed on Friday and we’ll assess if she’ll need them back on again, fingers crossed they are doing their thing 🤞🏼🩷

Poor little Roxy is really struggling with her skin at the moment, we are constantly eliminating things from her diet and giving her special baths but I think there will be a little vet visit this week 🩷 Here she is having her special antibacterial and anti fungal bath 🛁

🩷 CHUNK IS HOME 🩷 After almost a week in piggy hospital Chunk is back with us, she was so pleased to be home and snuggled up in her own bed. The care she has had at Langford has been amazing and they have done all they can to keep her happy and comfortable whilst trying to get to the bottom of what’s going on. Sadly, we haven’t got a definitive diagnosis- we do know that all Chunk’s vital organs are doing as they should and that she is feeling brighter. It seems that she has an infection somewhere that doesn’t want to budge and she’s in some discomfort. We have a great treatment plan for the next couple of weeks to help her fight this lingering infection and keep her pain under control. We will then repeat her blood tests in a couple of weeks time 🩷 For now she is home and happy 🩷 Chunks total bill has come in at £1776.27, we will be planning some fundraisers to help with this but in the meantime if you’d like to donate towards it, we would be forever thankful 🩷🩷🩷 https://www.paypal.me/goatacre?locale.x=en_GB
Sadly Chunk has shown little sign of getting better, she hasn’t wanted to get out of bed and we have had to be hand feeding and syringing water into her. She’s only eating a limited amount and is so wobbly when she stands 😢 We know that chunk is anaemic and there is something going on with her liver, along with potentially fighting a virus but she isn’t responding to treatment. After some conversations with our vet, we made the decision to ask for a referral to Langsford University vets in Bristol. We made our way there this evening where we settled Chunk in and discussed possible treatment plans with the vets there. We have tucked Chunk in for the night (with a fleece from my bed that smells of me to give her some home comfort!) and investigations will start tomorrow. We have been estimated anywhere between £500 - £3000 for her stay. My gorgeous, gentle girl, Chunk isn’t feeling well today 😢 she been very quiet, off her food and has a temperature, we have given her some pain relief and started her on antibiotics but we aren’t quite sure what’s going on for her 😞 She did eat a small dinner this evening and enjoyed some grapes and half a banana 🩷 I’ve tucked her in for the night and we’ve had some extra cuddles xx I hope tomorrow’s a brighter day for you girly 🥰
Our gorgeous big boy, Loki 🩵 Those of you who have had the pleasure to meet Loki will know that he is a giant softie who loves a kiss!!! Loki can struggle to keep his weight up, so we supplement his diet with hard feed and treats, like bananas 😍 Do you think he likes it…..? 😆
Mopsy and Lola are completely inseparable, they spend their days snuggling, grooming and sleeping 🥹 Mopsy has been here for several years now, in fact he was one of the first bunnies I rescued many moons ago! 🩵 For lots of different reasons the time has never been right for Mopsy to move on from us. Last night, that changed 🥲 Mopsy and Lola went to their forever, retirement home to enjoy their twilight years being totally pampered and spoilt, just what they deserve 🩵🩷 Older residents often get overlooked, but they too deserve a chance to be part of a family 🩷 These two will be greatly missed by me and our volunteers but we are all completely over the moon for them 😍
