I started It’s a Dogs Life because I really wanted another dog, as a companion for my Nelson, however we couldn’t be sure that we’d find such a lovely natured and well behaved dog as him, and so, the next best thing would be to have lots of play-dates for him, and so we’ve really enjoyed having a huge variety of dogs come to stay, from tiny Chihauhau’s to gigantic Leonburgers. Nelson loved them all. Sadly Nelson became unwell this Christmas and with a very heavy heart we made the toughest decision to let him go – it broke our hearts. Nobody is quite prepared for how a dog can weave its way into your lives and your heart, and their loyalty and friendship is amazing.
I have decided to carry on inviting dogs into our home and lives as nobody chooses to put their beloved dog in a kennel. It’s as simple as that, given the choice, we wouldn’t leave a member of our family alone, however the pressure of everyday living means we do have to, and sometimes it’s just for a short time, but sometimes it can be for weeks. Home boarding is so much more preferable than in kennels and knowing that your dog is having a holiday in a comfortable, clean and loving environment, means you can rest easy. Using the same home boarder family time and time again, enables your dog to feel safe and loved, and they get to have a change of scene too – something we all need occasionally!
I have always been interested in dogs and am a frequent visitor to RSPCA Millbrook. After getting my own dog I realised leaving a family member is hard and I wanted to know he would be left in the best care when needed. I wanted to offer the best care to him and knew that I could extend that care to other special family members and treat them as one of my own. I believe in providing that home from home feel and really making sure your dog is well looked after and loved as if they were at home.
