Does your dog hate fireworks?
It's never to early to start desensitising them.
Milly hates unexpected random loud bangs.

The first year I had her, she was shaking so bad. I was holding her and walking up and down the lounge for 5 hours.

She’s better now since we started using Taiko Drumming on YouTube, but we still take care to make sure we’re relaxed so she can be relaxed.

Milly was mis-diagonised for 4 months when she had a broken leg.

It was a torn crucial ligament but that’s what the vet who diagnosed it said.

Our previous vets were so focused on her pancreatitis, and kept saying there’s nothing wrong with her. But every night she turned into a Hyde and could not settle. She was literally wanting to climb the walls to get away from the pain!

I wished I’d trusted my instinct and gotten a second option before we got to the stage when we just wanted to switch vets.

Why did I decide to start a dog box for dogs with health issues?
All the other dog boxes I’ve looked at include something that Milly wouldn’t be able to have. Treats that are high in fat, or contain something she’s allergic to, or a tennis ball.

And that feels like a waste. I’d have to donate half or most of the contents to our local dog rescue. But that defeats the purpose of getting something for Milly.

I get a couple subscription boxes myself (and I own a stationery subscription box myself) and I love when they arrive and I get to see what’s inside.

Milly loves to open boxes too!
And I want something that’s safe for her.

Milly isn’t the only dog with pancreatitis and food allergies in the UK.

I love Milly and her health is the most important thing for me.
And I want something suitable for those dogs with health issues so other dog owners can treat their dogs to a special monthly treat.

She looks good in red, but Milly is a yellow dog.

She needs some space on walks and doesn’t want strange dogs running up to her, or strangers walking too close.

She can be spooked easily by someone slamming a door or window.

We both wear something yellow so other people know to give some space.

The biggest mistake I made when I got a rescue dog...
..taking her for a short walk the same day she arrived.

It's best to let them settle in a little first.

But each dog is different.

Milly is nervous and anxious.

Two years ago we were just starting short walks again after her TPLO surgery.

Never would I have thought I'd be putting my dog in trousers!

It was the only way to stop her getting to her wound.

Today is the anniversary of my 1st dog crossing the rainbow bridge. We had her from puppy. She was 15 years old.

Sunner was an English Springer spaniel and loved to run and jump.

I've always thought it was a little 'the universe is guiding us' as Sunner passed 28 Feb 2013 and Milly was born 5 Feb 2013.

The kitten is Muffy (named after Mufasa) and she crossed the bridge a year and 1 day later. And I'm about 13 years old in this photo.

No one wants to see their little pup (no matter how old) suffering from food allergies. It's taken a few years to find a food that's good for Milly.

It seems obvious now but once I connected that all the food we were trying contained rice, and switched her onto a rice free kibble she improved massively.

Last year we had snow and it's important to keep short furred dogs warm. Even more important if they have health issues like Milly.

Milly has a heart murmur and pancreatitis can flare up with the stress of keeping herself warm. These photos were taken a few months before she had TPLO surgery so it was around this time (2021) when she tore a ligament in her leg.

Sniffing is how your dog learns about the world. We learn through sight, but dogs learn through scent.

I spent 15 years looking for the perfect dog. I found Milly (or maybe she found me) in 2018 and somehow I love her a little bit more each day.

Ever since she was diagnosed with pancreatitis in 2019 I've wanted to create something for her. Some type of business that has her as the reason behind the business.

In 2022 I started planning a subscription box that would be suitable for her. Toys that last longer than 5 seconds and treats that she can actually have. There are 13 million dogs in the UK and I know she isn't the only one with food allergies and health issues.

Little Paws is a dog activity box for dogs with big personality.
