We hope everyone's enjoying Rabbit Awareness Week 2024 just as much as we are! 🐰

Your furry friend counts on you to understand their needs, so let's hop to it!

The rabbit dictionary 🐰

Binky
Have you noticed your rabbits jumping in the air and twisting? This is called a binky! This is a great sign and shows that they’re feeling very happy and playful.

Biting
If you get a small nip from your rabbit, like a little pinch, this could be a sign that your rabbit wants your attention now, or that they’re giving you a warning. If your rabbit bites you hard, this could be a sign of fear or stress.

Ears on alert
When your rabbit’s ears are up, something has got their attention and they’re on alert. Similarly, with their ears back, they’re very relaxed.

Grinding their teeth
When rabbits grind their teeth, listen out for how loud they are. Gentle, soft grinding (like a purring cat) is a sign of contentment. If you hear your rabbit grinding their teeth loudly, they’re in pain and need to see a vet as soon as possible.

Licking you or each other
Rabbits show affection by licking each other, so this a great way to see that you’re doing great!

Thumping
Rabbits thump to communicate that there’s danger around. It can also be a sign that they’re annoyed and often means stop doing what you’re doing!

Like, share, and comment to keep the conversation going! 🐇✨

Welcome to Day Two of Rabbit Awareness Week 2024 - Healthy Diet, Happy Bunnies!

85-90% of a rabbit’s diet should be hay

Feeding hay and fresh grass are sources of fibre which are essential for
rabbits’ health and welfare:
• Dental health - fibre wears down teeth reducing the risk of dental problems.
• Digestive health - fibre ensures that a rabbit’s gut keeps moving reducing
the risk of gut stasis and bloat.
• Behavioural health - in the wild rabbits spend 70% of their time foraging.
A constant supply of feeding hay and fresh grass is essential to allow them
to express this normal behaviour and help prevent behavioural problems.

Just a reminder for the XL bully owners!

If your dog was 12 months or older on 31 January 2024 it must be neutered by 30 June 2024.

If your dog isn’t neutered yet, speak to your vet to arrange this. Booking soon will avoid the risk of not getting an appointment before the deadline.

It will also help you plan for the costs involved.

Once your dog is neutered, you need to send a completed confirmation of neutering form to Defra.

Don’t risk being prosecuted and having your dog seized.

Remember to get your cats microchipped!

Remember to get your cats microchipped!

From 10 June 2024 cats over 20 weeks old must be microchipped and registered on a compliant database. 🐾

This includes cats that usually only stay indoors.

By microchipping their cats, owners can increase the likelihood that they will be reunited with their beloved pet if they go missing.

More information on how to get your cat microchipped can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/get-your-dog-cat-microchipped
