Turn out would be in with the herd as we have NO individual turn out paddocks available at the moment.

Happy Friday evening everyone. Quick reminder that the bottom of Sandy Lane will be closed for 4 weeks from this Monday (4th March).

While this will make Sandy Lane quieter it will most likely make Harleston Road much busier while the traffic diversion is in place.

Hacking to the Firs should be easier but anything taking in the crossroads could make for tricky navigating for the duration of the closure.

The winds out there are making the trees dance to their song this evening...

For those of you coming to the yard, be particularly mindful that the trees on Sandy Lane, Harleston and Holdenby Roads are all susceptible to losing branches or worse so be prepared just in case...

* We are organising a cycling event from Holdenby House that passes through Chapel Brampton this Sunday (19th November).

*The bikes will be passing from 10:00 til 12:00.

Good morning all. We currently have 2 spaces available here at the Grange. Herd turnout for either 2 geldings or 1 gelding and 1 mare.

We still have spaces available here at the Grange.

We paused advertising for a short while due to a minor strangles scare...a horse that was leaving us had a slightly higher than liked result to their strangles anti-bodies test. (+6) The horse was displaying absolutely no symptoms so we were confident that there wasn't anything to be too concerned about.

But we then carried out all required precautions to be on the safe side, isolation from the herd, separate tools and wheelbarrows, disinfectant for all tools and barrows, enforcement of a no touch policy for any horse other than your own, nobody took their horses off the property, while we waited for the results of a second test which showed a slight increase again no symptoms being displayed. A gutteral pouch wash was then arranged, meaning a further weekend of restrictions and discipline from all on the yard never mind the waiting.

Still no symptoms being displayed by the horse in question or the 2 horses that were in the adjacent paddock. Or any other horse on the yard for that matter.

Gutteral pouch wash day arrived, vet said that the pouches were as clean as they could ever be. Saline sample taken. Just the 24 hours to wait for the result, and when it came it was all clear.

Normal yard routines could resume and people could go about their business again.

Why on earth am I sharing this you might say?

Strangles isn't nice, we've had it on this yard around 15 years ago and it's not something we'd ever want to go through again, and we wouldn't want anyone else to go through it either.

Like everyone we take the risk of strangles and it spreading very seriously.

Thankfully on this occasion we NEVER had strangles.

Hopefully this will stop the equine rumour mill in its tracks.

On a positive note the dressage arena has now been set up giving out clients somewhere to practice for those competitions. Images in the comments (don't shoot the photographer)...

Life on a Livery yard can be full of challenges and full of joy and sometimes sadness too.

This week we sadly said goodbye to Molly and BJ, both had lovely lives and will be greatly missed.

At the age of 29 both crossed the rainbow bridge to graze in pastures new.

For BJ life had turned full circle as he left this world just a few feet from where it all began for him all those years ago.

Our thoughts go out to Hilda and Steve and Vickie and Jeff.

Heads up everyone.

Partial road closure on the Welford Road from 17th April for UP TO 6 weeks.

I guess Acre Lane will become a rat run for the duration and that the round about for Boughton will become busier.

May be worth checking alternative routes in preparation.
