Wow.... never seen this before!!

⚠️BE AWARE OF THE DANGERS OF STINGING NETTLES⚠️

We recently went out to a horse showing severe signs of distress shortly after being turned out in the field.

The horse was down in the field, unresponsive and breathing heavily. When he did try to get up he kept falling over which caused him to become even more distressed.

Hives were visible across the left side when the horse did stand up. These are typical signs of a severe reaction to stinging nettles.

The most important thing to do in these circumstances is to keep horses and people as safe as possible and call your vet.

By keeping the environment as quiet as possible you will reduce stimulation that will cause the horse to attempt to stand.

If the horse cannot be safely restrained then your vet may be able to sedate them to help keep the horse lying down until they have recovered sufficient coordination to safely stand up.

In this case the horse was standing after about three hours, and by the next day he was completely back to normal.

Government rejects calls to add Staffordshire Bull Terriers to dangerous dogs list

Some of the most fabulous dogs I have had pleasure of working with were Staffies. So glad they have not been added to the dangerous dogs breeds. Tests have shown them to be the most empathetic breed.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers will not be put on the dangerous dogs list despite a leading animal rights charity calling for the breed to placed on the register.

Easter is my new New Year.
Resolutions made, positive attitude engaged, so 2017 take note....I will not be settling for the same old rubbish...I will be making my own luck and making sure this 2017 is the best year ever for me and my family.

Born Innocent

Working with so many dogs it is obvious that nurture is the main factor in a dogs behaviour but I have always been unsure of how far dogs can be rehabilitated after a bad start.... this story is lovely and brought a bit of brightness to my morning. It also reaffirms how amazing our four legged friends are and there drive to be loving and be loved can shine through.

This week marked the 10th Anniversary of a terrible, but history changing event.
10 years ago, US celebrity American Footballer, Mike Vick, was busted for funding, raising and training dogs for fighting.
He was also found to cruelly kill "underperforming" dogs.
That's the tragic part. The cruel part.

The amazing part is that many of the dogs were spared and went on not only to be homed, but to become certified therapy dogs.
These dogs proved that "dogs bred and trained for fighting" are not inherently dangerous.
That it's not the dog. Not even how they are raised. That most dogs can be helped if the right environment and support is available.
Although, sadly, some have now started to pass away, such as beautiful Little Red that got her wings this month, they are all heroes.
Thanks to these dogs and their amazing rescuers, many US States have been and continue to abolish Breed Specific Legislation.

And did we mention these dogs are all pit bull terriers?
