Chesvale Dog Training Club

Chesvale Dog Training Club The club exists for two main reasons.
(4)

Firstly to help people train and socialise their dogs to a standard where they are well behaved and obedient to their owner’s commands. An obedient dog is a delight to its owner and shows the general public that dogs need not be the nuisance that they perceive them to be. Secondly as a meeting place where those who are interested in training their dogs to the higher standard required for obedience competitions can practice and receive guidance and advice.

Today we had another evening of doing The Kennel Club Bronze Good Citizens awards. Firstly I’d like to say a massive Thankyou to Lesley Lee for giving up her evening to come to assess our lovely dogs.
Congratulations to the 7 dogs and their owners that passed the assessment, well done. 👏🏻 I think their smiles say it all.
Well done to everyone that came along, you can all feel proud that you did your best.
Also a massive Thankyou to the lovely Chesvale ladies- Gail and Lynne for serving up well needed tea, coffee and cake. Your help is invaluable. 😘

What an evening! I am truly overwhelmed at the generosity of you wonderful members! Not only did you bring a fantastic, feast of cakes to our fund raising Coffee Evening for MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT, you also donated the fabulous sum of £313.00 ( and this does not include donations on line!).

A heartfelt thankyou to all cake bakers/bringers - your contributions made the evening a success. Your cakes gave Chesvale the opportunity to fund raise for a worthy cause. MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT provides care and support to those during one of the most difficult times in their lives. So a big thankyou to you all!

Finally, a special thankyou to Steph and Gail who helped keep things running smoothly in the kitchen.

Show report by Christine Milner for Novice at our open obedience show 25th August.

37 Entered 28 Booked in 21 Worked 7 Trained

Thank you, Carol, Clare, and Chesvale Dog club committee for asking me to judge at your show one of my favourites. As always, we were well looked after during the day and our gifts from the club were very much appreciated. I would like to thank Carol my ring steward for an excellent job of steering the competitors around, and Enid for keeping everything neat and tidy on the scoreboard cheers ladies.

My thanks to all who came in my ring to work, or train hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as I did Judging you, good luck to everyone for the rest of the season.

Not sure how it happened but had a runoff for First place oops.

1st 122 Karen Smith Tivalake Anything Goes at Tollisty (JW) NSDTR (Girl) Won the runoff from the team below. Many congratulations Karen and Mayhem on winning the red one today. Mayhem did you proud worked exceedingly well in her original round, she then went and topped that by hardly putting a paw wrong in the runoff. It was a pleasure to judge this team. I wish you lot’s off luck for the future.

2nd 132 Daniel Thompson Zakanja Baa Baa GSD (Girl) Lost the runoff from the team above, Daniel, Olive’s ring work and your handling are excellent and I know you were over the moon with her, but asking her to do it all again well what can I say we both ended up smiling as she enjoyed it so much. Fingers crossed at your next show that red one will be yours. Good luck to you both.

3rd 50 Jan Green Mo Star of Ballina Cross (Boy) Well done Jan and Tiny main fault was slight loss of position in his heel work on and off get this sorted and the red one will be yours. Lots of luck to you both.

4th 98 Jill Paterson Hanans Golden Spirt Goldie (Boy) A good all-round performance from Zeno, most marks were lost on his heelwork which I am sure you will work on, and hopefully that red one cannot be that far away. Well done on gaining this place and all the best for the future.

5th 19 Sally Butler Heidron Strawberry Moon Sheltie (Boy) Sally, Tonks worked really well for you just bits and piece’s main fault heel free nevertheless very well done on gaining this place. Good luck to the pair of you.

6th 73 Kay Leverington Nampara’s Garrick W/S (Boy) Well done Kay and Lowen on making the line up Lowen was a good boy. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Best Chesvale Member John Pepper Moonseeker Sirus GSD Well done.

CHESVALE DTC
OPEN SHOW 25TH AUGUST 2024
SHOW MANAGER’S REPORT

What a brilliant day.

After setting up in rain and wind, the weather gods were kind for show day with warm sunshine – perfect for humans and dogs. With only 5 rings (1 pre-beginner, 1 beginner and 3 novice) plus 2 training rings, we were able to have plenty of room for parking and exercising dogs.

There are always so many people involved in running a show and it is important that their efforts are noted, and they receive the praise they deserve.

Firstly, Clare Williams our club Honorary Secretary and show secretary. Without Clare the show could not take place as she does so much during the year up to the two shows we put on and then working like a trojan all day. So, a big thank you to her!

Team Chesvale is the best. From setting up on Saturday, arriving early Sunday morning to finish off making the showground perfect, managing the car parking and putting up tents. They do all of this with a smile on their face (possibly a grimace in some cases as we’re not as young as we were). Then after a long two days, they happily dismantled everything and stored it away. What a team! Jim Nokes, Norman Partridge, John Pepper, Keith Saunders, Alan Dyas, Steve Weston, Jane Byard, Paul Spencer.

Catering at Chesvale’s shows is renowned for being superb and this year did not disappoint. Fabulous food at lunch and then the most amazing cakes and cream teas for the afternoon. The catering team for lunch is Gail Nokes, Lynne Weston, Pauline Finn, Julia Yerrell and Stephanie Mayne. Afternoon teas were manned by Jo Dyas, Sally Partridge and Sharon Smith. Debs our competitor caterer also received glowing reports for the quality and cost of her food and drinks.

Wonderful Laura Wiley manned the training ring again and was busy all day! We supplied several chairs for those waiting to get Laura’s help and they were full all day. I know that the handlers were extremely grateful for Laura’s fantastic attitude and help. We also had a self-help ring which was also well used throughout the day. Thank you to Sheila Rodger for organising the waiting masses and taking the money. They took an amazing £126.00 for K9 Heroes which is our chosen charity for the show this year.

The tombola stall was well attended as usual and thanks to Maggie Petit for manning the stall, taking £95.00 which will also go to K9 Heroes.

We had a surprise visit from members of the Gaddesdon branch of the Riding for the Disabled charity. They came to personally thank Chesvale for the donation of £1,000.00 we recently sent to them. A wonderful charity that really needs support for the great work they do.

My thanks must also go to the judges and their stewards. Sue Chambers who came to our rescue when Vanessa Sultana was unable to fulfil the appointment to judge pre-beginners (hope you’re better soon Vanessa). Carey Holah (beginners), Chris Milner, William Forest and Liz Jakeman (novice). Shows cannot run without committed judges who are prepared to give up their time, thank you for your time and your support of Chesvale DTC.

Finally, thank you to all the competitors and we hope you had a lovely day with us. See you at our next show on 4th May 2025 (pre-beg to B) and our show on 24th August 2025 (pre-beg – novice)
