When should I get my puppy professionally groomed?

It's a common misconception that a puppy shouldn't be groomed until it needs a haircut. Waiting until they need a haircut can be problematic. Here’s why:

1.Lengthy Grooming Sessions Are Hard for Puppies
If you wait until your puppy needs a haircut, they'll need to remain still for up to two hours depending on the breed. Puppies find it challenging to stay still for even two minutes, let alone two hours!

2.Safety Concerns
Grooming involves the use of sharp equipment. One sudden move can lead to accidents, something we want to avoid at all costs.

3.Early Introduction to Grooming
Introducing your puppy to professional grooming as early as possible, in short, regular sessions, helps them adapt to the environment better. Typically, you can start once they’re allowed outside after their vaccinations. Early exposure helps them get accustomed to the smells, sounds, and vibrations of the grooming equipment, setting them up for a lifetime of stress-free grooming.

4.Learning to Behave on the Grooming Table
Just as puppies need to learn how to walk well on a lead for their safety, they also need to learn how to behave on the grooming table. Puppies naturally want to explore, but for their safety, they need to stay on the table. At Buddies Pet Grooming Spa & Academy, we use reward-based training during early sessions, which we call our Puppy University, to teach them these crucial skills.

We use a Mud Treatment that is enhanced with extra beneficial ingredients to treat clogged hair follicles, remove loose fur, and release the undercoat.

Vitamin B3: Also known as niacinamide, this essential vitamin increases ceramide, a fatty acid that regulates skin regeneration, prevents the skin from losing water, improves skin barrier function, increasing cell turnover to promote new hair growth.
Provitamin B5: Also known as panthenol, this essential vitamin stimulates cell growth and tissue repair.
