🐶As the warmer months approach, it is crucial to be on the lookout for pesky fleas that can make our beloved pets itchy and uncomfortable. Fleas can cause itching but can also spread diseases.

❌Preventing fleas is easier than dealing with an infestation. Regularly using effective licensed veterinary flea products is key, but remember, some treatments for dogs can be highly toxic to our feline friends, so use with caution.

📞 If you suspect that your dog/cat may have fleas, don’t hesitate to call us. We’ll recommend the appropriate flea product and provide guidance on usage.

🛑 Under new regulations prescription flea treatments require your pet to be examined initially and regularly thereafter before a vet can prescribe it. Reach out to us and we can advise on whether your pet needs to be seen or not 🛑

🐾Ever wonder why your cat bumps their head against you?

This endearing behaviour, known as 'bunting,' is a display of affection and trust. Cats have scent glands on their heads, and by rubbing against you, they're marking you with their unique scent, a gesture reserved for their closest companions.

Embrace the feline love!🐱

🐶Client Story🐶

**Disclaimer- photos of an operation**

Meet Buttons!

Buttons came into our Dungannon branch as her owners were concerned following a few days of vomiting, lethargy and losing weight.

During her initial exam with one of our vets they decided to do an ultrasound as Buttons had a history of a recent heat cycle within the last 6 weeks, vulval discharge and excessive drinking. This confirmed the presence of 'pyometra'.

Pyometra is a very serious womb infection that is commonly found in unneutered female dogs. If left untreated pyometra can be fatal.
Below there is a comparison between a healthy womb and Buttons' womb.

Surgery was the next step for Buttons to remove the infected womb as this a curative solution. Buttons' owner gave the vet permission to proceed with the surgery.

Buttons had an overnight stay with us so that she could be monitored overnight during her immediate recovery after surgery.

She went home the next day to her very relieved family in her very flattering bodysuit (as shown below) and has since made a full recovery. Buttons attended her two post op checks and the vets were very happy with her recovery!

13/04/2024

When we welcome pets into our lives, we anticipate that one day we'll bid them farewell, but the timing is often unexpected. Circumstances may arise, leading to an earlier goodbye than planned.

Various factors can contribute to this:
• Sudden illness: Sometimes, a rapid onset of illness prompts a euthanasia decision.
• Behavioural problems: behaviours that impact the quality of life of the pet and/or the owner
• Accidents: Unforeseen accidents may lead to the need for euthanasia.
• Euthanasia during anaesthesia: In exploratory operations, if untreatable issues are discovered, euthanasia might be recommended while your pet is anaesthetised to prevent further suffering.

Your consent is always sought, and vets often prepare you for potential serious findings beforehand.

Capturing your thoughts on end-of-life preferences, regardless of your pet's age, can be beneficial. This proactive approach ensures that, in the unlikely event of a sudden goodbye, you have an idea of your wishes for your beloved pet. https://www.compassionunderstood.com/page/saying-goodbye-suddenly

Over the next few months, we’re raising awareness of skin disease – a really common problem in cats and dogs!🐶🐱

Did you know... Skin problems are one of the most common reasons owners take their pet to the vet.
Abnormalities such as excessive scratching, redness, inflammation, hair loss and lumps and bumps could be a sign of a wide range of skin conditions, from allergies, fleas and ticks to infections.

If you notice any of these symptoms on your pet, you should contact your vet to ensure they get the treatment they need. Not only might the condition be causing them pain or discomfort, but mild skin problems can become more severe if left untreated.

Book in now for 20% off your first skin consultation with our vets!
