Handsome Ta**us β€οΈ
He's always been known as the singing staffy β€οΈ
Ta**us was a rescue boy, who from day one that he visited us at happy hounds, has been petrified of water.
His anxiety was so bad in the beginning that he wore his muzzle for a comforter and made his voice heard to all the neighbours to let them know how much he disapproved of a bath.
He has come so far, with lots of love and care from his mum and dad, and a few slightly unconventional approaches taken by us, today he managed not to sing the songs of his people for the entire bath.
We had a minor scream up at the hair dryer (just to get him that bit dryer round his collar line and ears with this cold weather) but soon all was forgiven and treats were given.
I'm so proud that in my professional career I have made a difference to such a loving boy. I have learned great things from this beautiful boy.
He truly does hold a little piece of my heart.
We have tried all sorts of techniques with Ta**us, to start with, the conventional shower was the first port of call. That was a big fat nope from him. We then tried removing the shower head to give the illusion of a gentle flow of water, another big fat nope. We have tried singing along with him, radio on, comforters, treats, you name it we tried it. Eventually we found that he can cope with buckets and jugs. One bucket of warm soapy water, gently applied with the help of a jug, followed by a nice rinse off with clean warm water using another jug. This seems to be his sweet spot, it's not to traumatic for him and has the same result.
Then there was drying.... Blaster dryer, nope big fat nope, stand dryer, also a big fat nope, hairdryer - sometimes, not to keen but predominantly it's a tonne of towels and a good fussing to get him dry, of course with biscuits for good behaviour.
It may seem like minor hurdles, but for this lad it's a huge overcoming of a fear, a fear that's misunderstood.
He still likes his muzzle as a comforter, and that is perfectly fine, we did manage a while without it but he really does calm with it on, I'm cool with it if he is.
I am just immensely proud of him, he's come so far, he's battled his fears and he's all round just a lovely boy!!!
Well done today you big softie π₯°π₯°πΎπΎ
We all love you at happy hounds. X
