Half marathon done ✔️ 😃

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to Helens fundraiser.
She currently has only £75 to go to reach her target of £2500 to name a guide dog puppy after her beloved Geordie 🦮
I'm chuffed to bits to complete my first half marathon, in a time of 2 hours 23 mins 7 seconds, and have wonderful memories of doing it for such an amazing cause ❤️🥰
I may be moving quite slowly around the surgery tomorrow! 😂🙃

Thanks again
June xx

Parvovirus Update

Pleased to report that we have had far fewer positive parvo cases in all of practices over the last week or so. We are hopeful that the current outbreak seems to be tailing off. We still recommend all clients remain vigilant about symptoms but things seem to be improving. Will keep you posted.🤞🤞🤞

This is Helen and her beloved Guide dog Geordie ❤️
You may remember us posting about having to say a sad final goodbye to Geordie at the end of June this year.
Helen would love to raise enough money to have a guide dog puppy named after him, so another blind person can know the freedom and love of having their very own Geordie to guide them.
Our Head Nurse will be running her first half marathon on 22nd September, and would love you to sponsor her to help make Helens dream come true.
If you would like to put some pressure on our head nurse to complete this crazy idea, then please click the link to donate, and June and her dodgy old knees will give it their best shot! 🏃‍♀️🦮❤️

Thank you ❤️🦮

Parvovirus Update

In the last week we are continuing to see a small number of cases positive for Parvovirus in dogs from the Levenmouth area but now also from St.Andrews and Cupar postcodes. We are testing all dogs with symptoms and getting about 1 case a day testing positive.

Thankfully the vast majority of positive cases have had relatively mild symptoms and have fully recovered, this appears to be the pattern with vaccinated dogs. Whilst vaccination will never fully prevent disease, we are hopeful it does seem to be limiting the severity in the small number of cases we have seen.

Some patients are still requiring hospitalisation and intensive treatment. Our most severe cases were seen in dogs with lapsed/no vaccines.

Our advice to all our our clients remains unchanged:
minimise contact with unknown dogs, keep on leads where possible and keep vaccinations up to date. We were continuing to ask all dogs with potential symptoms to remain outside the practice until we are ready to see/test them.

We will continue to offer a 3rd Parvo vaccine to all pups and plan to send out some communications shortly.

Best wishes, W&P

***** PARVOVIRUS *****

Please be aware. In conjunction with other local practices we are becoming increasingly concerned about a number of Parvovirus cases reported from the Kennoway/Leven area.

Parvovirus is a highly infectious viral disease that causes severe diarrhoea in dogs and can be fatal. Protection against this disease can be achieved through vaccination and is given as part of our core vaccine protocol.

As a precautionary measure, we will be advising a 3rd vaccine at 16 weeks for all of our Puppies (the most vulnerable) and request that any dogs with symptoms of severe diarrhoea are kept outside the practice and where appropriate tested BEFORE entering the premises. This is to protect our other patients.

Where dogs are unvaccinated, or those whose vaccines have lapsed - we are adding additional clinics to restart their cover starting next week.

Meanwhile it would seem sensible to avoid common dog walking routes in the Levenmouth area and keep dogs on leads to prevent contact with unknown dogs and to avoid them from investigating any faeces left by others.

If you are concerned at all about symptoms, please phone ASAP. We will keep you posted on further developments.

Very sad week for everyone at the practice as we had to say goodbye to our friend and star patient Geordie. Geordie was a working guide dog and a bit of a celebrity around Cupar. He loved coming to the practice brightened up everyone’s day.

We are truly humbled by the life-changing impact assistance dogs have on their owners and Geordie was no exception. Even through his retirement he was a great advocate for the guide dogs, attending many talks and educational events to raise awareness for the charity. We would like to thank his owners Helen and Mark for their care and for bringing him to see us.

We’ll miss you big chap, have another carrot on us. ❤️

This troublesome wee beastie has been lurking under our microscope...
Can anyone identify what it is? 🤔
Bonus point if you know, and can correctly spell, its long fancy name! 😃
We'll be back towards the end of the week with the answer!
Good luck 😃

👀 Eyes 👀

Corneal ulcers are ulcers that form on the surface of the eye. There are many treatment options and one that is sometimes appropriate is the use of serum drops 💧👀 made from...... Blood!
We take the blood and spin it down in our in house lab. We then remove the blood cells and the clear liquid that is left (serum) is used as eye drops to heal the ulcer 😀
Clever huh? 😀
Often we use the patients own blood but if its a very small dog we sometimes use a donor dog.
Meet the amazing Misty who donated 12ml of blood tonight so we could make serum drops for a small dog. She sat like an angel while the sample was taken and her mum and the nurses were super proud of her.
Thank you Misty ❤️ you are a 🌟
