One of our Clinical Directors Jon Mayer is taking part in a 'Peaks 'N' Pedals' challenge this weekend along with Alberbury Young Farmers.

The challenge sees this group taking on the Welsh Three Peaks AND cycling 140 miles in between the locations.

Well that's a wrap for another year!
Thanks to all who came along to Oteley yesterday - we hope you had a great day out (despite the heavy showers at several points this afternoon) and learned something new about what farmers, vets and other professionals do to keep Britain farming!

Vets Gemma and Elaine especially enjoyed talking about the dung beetles (resources and information from the fabulous website Dung Beetles for Farmers ) , hopefully inspiring the next generation of farm vets!

Thank you on behalf of myself and the Oteley team to North Shropshire Guild of Weavers Spinners and Dyersfor showcasing what we can do with wool! ProTrim Services Craig's foot trimming demos also seemed to attract quite the crowd! Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Liz from Frontier Ag and Jo from Williams Round stands were also so informative. A great team effort to make the day a success, rounded off with the opportunity to sample the fantastic farm produce from the Oteley shop and cafe.

Special thanks to Oteley's Chris and Harry (& Ben!) for assisting with supplies for setting up our stands on the morning and moving the animals into appropriate positions so you could see all that the farm team do to keep their stock healthy and productive. I'm sure it goes without saying the piglets stole the show !

Bookings are open for the second UK roots to resilience workshop! Organised by AHDB Beef and Lamb, the innovative Knowledge Exchange programme running from 20-23 May, in Shipley, West Yorkshire, challenges farmers to stop thinking in black and white and unlock their full potential. Given the success of the December workshop, AHDB is extending the offering to four days to enable farmers to get even more out of the experience.

Beyond proud of the fantastic team effort in responding to this emergency. Our thanks go to the skilled fire service and animal rescue tender, the local farmers who gave their time and their handling equipment that was used, and other necessary haulage and transport services, without which none of this would have been possible. Big thanks to our whole team for pulling together to help where they could - covering emergencies while this task was ongoing and lending a hand on the scene.

Easter delivery fresh out the side door 😍 Lovely result with a healthy big lamb, up and about as mum was loaded to go back home.

Our practice sites may be closed for the bank holiday hours, with normal opening from Tuesday morning, but rest assured our farm team vets are on hand to assist with any urgent needs!

Hope the Easter weekend allows for some chocolate munching and fingers crossed for some better weather! 🐰🐣🐑🌷

⛔ADVANCE NOTICE : ROAD CLOSURE NEXT WEEK IN ELLESMERE⛔

The A495 Ellesmere Rd into Scotland St (See map below) will be closed next week. Please note access/egress for properties and businesses within the closure will be maintained when safe to do so.

This work will take place from Monday 19 February to Friday 23 February during the hours of 9 30am to 4pm.

Delays may be experienced when accessing the surgery or the diversion route may be your best option if you need to come in during the times of closure. If you can pop in to collect things before 9.30am or after 4pm.

Wales might not have won the rugby yesterday (some of you are probably feeling happy about that!) but our receptionist Annie at Park Issa was excited to find their favourite cow 'Annie' had a lovely little heifer calf. 😍
Even lovelier, 20 mins later she popped out another gorgeous little heifer! 😍🐄🐄😍

Three good reason for controlling Johne's Disease:

1. To reduce or prevent your production losses and income

2. If your herd is certified as low risk, it can increase the value of your breeding stock

3. To reduce the level of the bacterium that causes Johne's in milk and the environment

When you visit your horse each day, you should check all over them for any issues. Check their eyes and legs for any injuries. Run your hands all over them to check for lumps and bumps. And make sure they are eating, drinking and urinating as expected. Not only will this help you keep an eye on any possible issues, but it will also be great for continuing the bond you have built up with them! If you are worried about anything, give us a call.

Take a look at our five facts about sheep scab. This disease is caused by a mite and is highly contagious. It also has a huge impact of your flock's welfare.

Johne's disease, also known as Paratuberculosis, is a chronic, contagious bacterial disease of the intestinal tract that affects all cattle but is most commonly seen in dairy cattle.

Caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium avium subsp, it causes s slowly progressive wasting of the animal and increasingly severe diarrhoea.The organism is resistant to heat, cold, and drying. It can survive for longer than a year in soil and even longer in water.
