THE CLEAN UP CREW FOR TROPICALS
Every now and then especially for us planted aqurium nuts we need some assistance in coping with algae
This is really handy in the first 6 weeks of a new tanks life , but ongoing it can still really help so i'm going to give you the best spiecies to help keep those plants nice and clean promoting growth
no1 Siamese Algae Eater this guys are superb in what they do and that is feast on algae getting up to 3 inchs and are a shoaling fish , they are not for the smallest of tanks , some people say they can be nippy , but i can only speak from my experience and they have been well behaved
no2 Hill stream loach these guys are great algae eaters that prefer quite high flow and a smmoth substrate , would i say it's cruel keeping them without a wavemaker no i wouldnt !! Max size is 2 inchs and they do fine on there own
no3 Ottocinculas these fish are awesome whether you have a 500 litre tank or 40 litre , they are amazing at cleaning algae of the leaves of plants they reach a size of around 6 cm and prefer to be in a group of 4 or more
n04 Nerite snails these cool looking snails will be all over the aquarium munching on algae they are not Asexual so cannot reproduce by themself's , and are not the easiest snails to breed 1 is ample for a 40 litre tank
no5 Red Crystal Shrimp my fav shrimp that will get to around 1 inch in length they will eat detritus and algae , they are really popular among breeders and if you are going to breed then they need to be your tanks sole occupents , be careful of to big a tank mates with them or they will become an expensive breakfast
No6 Finaly Ammano Shrimp named after the brilliant Aquascaper Takeshi Amano these busy body shrimp feast on algae and grow up to a size of 2 inchs a 40 litre tank could house 4 as with all shrimp careful when choosing tank mates , a lot of Cchlids large plecs large Gouramis will consume them !!!!!
Happy fish keeping
