This happened some what earlier than i expected but i'm chuffed that a pair of Autolamprologus Comp Gold Heads have formed and bred i didn't think they were mature enough yet !!!!!!!!!!
Mother is guarding that shell closely and dad is not far away either they will defend there young to the death the other spiecies i have in the tank are staying out of there territory
Apologies if the tank is a little dirty i'm just trying to let them chill at the moment 😃

So this is my latest aquarium is going through a fishless cycle
This tank will be a Lake Tanganyika bio tape
It is 182 litres iv'e upgraded theheating and filteration to a t series fluval heater and a fluval 307 external filter .The aqua one internal filter will come out it is just running with some carbon and fine filter wool at the moment whilst the substrate settles in
So far iv'e added 10 kilos of Gui Ying stone and 60 escorgot shells they will house the shell dwellers Neolamprologus Brevis who in the wild use these shells to survive predatory spiecies they also breed in them
I will add another 6 kilos of rock two the right handside this will split the territories between the two rock dwelling spiecies Julidachromis Transcriptus and Altolamprologus Compressiceps
At some point the final stocking will be the colourful open water swimming Cyprichromis Leptosoma
To cycle the tank two new products to me Fishless Fuel ammonia and Fritz zyme 7
I dossed the fuel to bring the ammonia to between 2-4 ppm and then added the live nitrifying bacteria this will eventually eliminate the ammonia and nitrite making the aquarium safe for stocking
This process has already started (as per pic)
The substrate and Pro Cichlid Mineral has helped bring the ph up to 8.2 and a kh of 15
I will be adding a background soon
So now it's just a waiting game more to follow ............

If you are struggling with temperatures in you Aquariums these are some things you can do
1 Do a 15% water change with cool water
2 Run fans if you have open topped tanks
3 If you have a sump place ice packs in there
4 Air the room as much as possible
5 Do not let direct sunlight hit the aquarium
6 run the lights on a timer for 5 hours during the night

There is hot weather incoming if fans are not dropping your temps ( i know chillers aren't cheap )
Monitor your temps and if you have to run your marine lights through the night then do so !!!!
Corals do not take well to rising temps

I want to address something the has crept into the hobby in recent times and it annoys the heck out of me
Don't be fooled by all these crazy names people are giving zoo's acro's etc etc
Look I get it there has been an increase across the hobby in the last couple of years
But I'm seeing 3 heads of purple haze zoo's that Jimmy hendrix once owned go for £60
Do not go on the name go on what your eye likes

My favourite wrasse for the marine aquarium the "Radiant Wrasse " Halichoeres iridis
This stunning fish is super active and very peaceful ,also they reach a max of around 4 half inches
Not only are Radiant Wrasse's a joy to watch they act as true work horses in the aquarium
Feeding on small bristle worms and other nasties
Aquariums should be covered as they are great jumpers
Perfect reef fish !!!!

THE CLEAN UP CREW FOR TROPICALS
Every now and then especially for us planted aqurium nuts we need some assistance in coping with algae
This is really handy in the first 6 weeks of a new tanks life , but ongoing it can still really help so i'm going to give you the best spiecies to help keep those plants nice and clean promoting growth
no1 Siamese Algae Eater this guys are superb in what they do and that is feast on algae getting up to 3 inchs and are a shoaling fish , they are not for the smallest of tanks , some people say they can be nippy , but i can only speak from my experience and they have been well behaved
no2 Hill stream loach these guys are great algae eaters that prefer quite high flow and a smmoth substrate , would i say it's cruel keeping them without a wavemaker no i wouldnt !! Max size is 2 inchs and they do fine on there own
no3 Ottocinculas these fish are awesome whether you have a 500 litre tank or 40 litre , they are amazing at cleaning algae of the leaves of plants they reach a size of around 6 cm and prefer to be in a group of 4 or more
n04 Nerite snails these cool looking snails will be all over the aquarium munching on algae they are not Asexual so cannot reproduce by themself's , and are not the easiest snails to breed 1 is ample for a 40 litre tank
no5 Red Crystal Shrimp my fav shrimp that will get to around 1 inch in length they will eat detritus and algae , they are really popular among breeders and if you are going to breed then they need to be your tanks sole occupents , be careful of to big a tank mates with them or they will become an expensive breakfast
No6 Finaly Ammano Shrimp named after the brilliant Aquascaper Takeshi Amano these busy body shrimp feast on algae and grow up to a size of 2 inchs a 40 litre tank could house 4 as with all shrimp careful when choosing tank mates , a lot of Cchlids large plecs large Gouramis will consume them !!!!!
Happy fish keeping

Ever since i started keeping fish i have never been a massive Gourami fan not sure why !!!
However there is one spiecies of Gourami i love and that is the Chocolate Gourami Sphaerichthys osphromenoides
I would definatley not consider these a beginner level fish they need prestine water conditions and will not tolerate any changes in water conditions and a fluctuating ph
In the wild they live in very soft water a ph of around 4-6 in Indonesia in the home aqaurium they will tolerate a ph between 6.5-6.8 and a slightly raised temperature of 26-27 0c
They prefer to be in a shoal in a very peaceful tank so keeping them on there own is best if you want the right results and for them to show there true stunning colours
As far as feeding goes they will require live foods ie Bloodworm and Daphnia it may well be possible to get them onto frozen Bloodworm in time
They do not like any flake foods so there diet is very specific
Give these fish the right conditions as mentioned above and the results will be stunning !!!

The biggest product to come out of this years Aqua Show 2021 is set to be a game changer and it goes by the name of Reef Delete
We all strive to have the perfect marine aquariums and sometimes there are pests that get in our way such as Aptasia ,Xeina , Cyanobacteria ,Majano's and much much more !!!!!!!
I have been called to many clients premises with Aptasia literally taking over the tank and stinging those lovely corals we empty our pockets for
The good news is this product is going to put an end to all your problems , using UVC rays that will disinfect or denature all kinds of microbes
We all know that uv light out of water is dangerous to the human eye , well this product will only turn on under water which is amazing design
So i gave you the good news the bad news is it is likely to retail at around £299 which is not cheap
But the benifits far outway the cons ie the price
On release which could be late this year or early next year i will be purchasing one and will add this service in with the maintenance package
So i will be able to come round and zap your nastys and this product has proven in trialing they wont comeback !!!!!
So know more mixing up Kalkwasser paste zapping Aptasia killing part of your live rock only to see them grow back
This is a massive stride in the right direction to achieve the perfect aquarium and i'm all for it !!!!!!!!!!!!
