***Urgent***
We have a terrapin that has been presented to our Fleet practice as a stray. No rescues will take it and we are wondering if there is anyone out there with existing terrapins or who would be interested in taking him. We obviously have limited details but if you are able to help at all then please contact Fleet on 01252 616136. TIA and please share this post as we would love to be able to find him a new home.

****Impending Road closure next week****
Please be aware that part of Reading Road South will be closed from Monday 29th July for up to 3 days for road works on a possible developing sink hole. this will be around the Heatherside school area and hopefully will be finished by Tuesday night subject to what they find. Please allow extra time to get to the practice if you are coming from the Fleet town area and follow the planned diversions in place.

Ashworth Vets Dog show was a huge success yesterday despite the wind and rain. Unfortunately we lost both our gazebo's first thing during set up so we didn't have much in the way of cover, through the day but doggy dip was as fun as ever and our chocolate raffle was also very popular. Due to the weather and staff on the day, we have limited photos so if you have pictures of your rosette placed dogs, we would love you to share them on here. 😍🤩🥳

A huge thank you to our staff & family members and of course to Fleet & District Carnival for another amazing Carnival yesterday. Despite the wind and rain, our staff dressed up as part of the Jungle theme with 'Jungle Cruise'. We had an orangatan, sloth, tiger, flowers, crocodile, explorers, tree frogs, piranha's an actual boat!, bamboo trees and a dragon fly. As always we had a great time and seeing everyone's faces as we walk down Fleet high street is amazing. Lets hope we managed to get lots of money in our Carnival buckets for this years charity.

*** Mittens has been found safe and reunited with his owners*** Thankyou to everyone who kept looking and helped in anyway xx.

Mittens was on his way to an appointment with us at Fleet and on arrival at the practice, he has escaped his basket and the owner thinks he has run off across to the house opposite the practice 😔 We have been out in the immediate area to see if we can help find him but we need your help to keep an eye out for this, probably very scared, boy. He is chipped and is wearing a collar. For any sightings, please contact the owner on 07785 575356. Thank you and keep your eyes peeled.

**Exotics vet at Ashworth Vets**
We are very excited to announce that from Monday 3rd June, Agata will be returning to Ashworth Vets every Monday as our exotics vet. 🤩
Agata graduated from University of Life Science in Lublin and moved to the United Kingdom to develop her clinical skills in the area of exotic and wildlife animal medicine, where she obtained postgraduate certificates and became RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Zoological Medicine.
Agata made her first steps as a veterinarian volunteering in Wild Bird rehabilitation Center in Poland, Marine and Aquatic Bird Center in Italy and International Bird Rescue Research Center in the United States.
Over the last few years, she was helping her exotic patients working in first opinion practices in Kent, followed by clinical work in exotic referral centre and finally became an independent practitioner settled in Hampshire.
She was always passionate about animals and fascinated in the avian world, so it is not uncommon to see her birdwatching with a pair of binoculars.
Agata will see any exotic pet and will be working every Monday from 9-6.30pm. Appointments are available by calling any of our branch surgeries but you will need to registered with us. She will be moving between branches each week to ensure access for all of our clients. Welcome back Agata 🤩🥳😍

***Veterinary receptionist week***
Our final team members are
Nicole - One of our newer members of the team, who joined last year. Nicole is based solely at Cove and is seen here with her very shocked looking cat 😆😻
Lyndsey - Has been at Ashworth Vets for many years and was mostly at our Fleet site but can also be seen on a Tuesday at Cove too. 🤩
Jodie - joined the team last year and then had to leave us but we are lucky to have her back with us again and she is mostly based at Cove with some shifts at our Fleet branch. 🥳
Lesley - is also one of our newer receptionists and only joined us last year. She can also be seen between our Fleet and Cove branches. 😍
And finally
Theresa - is part of the Sandhurst team and has been with us for too many years to mention. Over 20 for sure! Theresa is solely based at our Sandhurst branch and is often seen working with Becky.🥰
We are very proud of our reception team and we hope you have enjoyed meeting them this week. They are incredible with the roles they do everyday and we are very grateful for all they do. 😍😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

***National Veterinary receptionist week*** Continues......
Today we have our amazing

Sally - has been with the team for many years and was promoted to this new role last year. She now ensures our 15 receptionists, across all 3 sites, are supported when needed, arranges meetings, helps manage the rota and still can be seen, at the front of house, at our Cove branch.
Jo - is based will work between our Fleet and Cove branches and also came to us from another vet practice so has lots of experience. It is with sadness that Jo will be leaving us at the beginning of June as she is going to work in a practice much closer to home. 🥰
Christina - Works predominantly at Sandhurst as a receptionist and also is our Animal Care assistant too so she will often be seen doing both roles! Christina is very dedicated to both roles and loves coming out the back to assist the vets and nurses 🤩
Sarah - who is based at our Cove branch. Sarah has many many years of Veterinary receptionist experience and worked at another vets prior to joining our practice. Sarah is integral to our Cove team and we wouldn't want to be without her. 😍

***Veterinary Receptionist week - starts today***
We are very fortunate to have an amazing group of receptionists at Ashworth vets. Over the next week, we will introduce you to our reception team and celebrate them all and their roles within the team. They are unsung heroes and are often multi tasking many jobs, whilst trying to ensure the practice runs smoothly.
It is not an easy job and they really have to 'Octopus' most of the time. Thank you to all of our receptionists for your dedication, hard work, patience and compassion. 😍🤩🥰

A huge shout out to Natalie at Tranquil Health who has been providing massages to our staff to help get through a busy January. Natalie has been amazing at helping us plan schedules so we can get head and neck massages to all those staff that requested them. The feedback has been amazing and we would highly recommend her! 😍

Important announcement - RCVS dispensing changes for parasiticides.
At the beginning of January, further changes are being introduced by the RCVS to ensure tighter controls on vets dispensing parasite medications to clients. To ensure we are compliant from January 2nd, we may need to see your pet to ensure we are following new protocols for the RCVS.

- What does this mean to our clients?
The vet can only prescribe parasite medications on the day they have seen your pet. Once authorised (we authorise for 12 months), these will be prescribed for the following year and available to be dispensed every quarter as usual. This check can be done as part of a routine vaccination appointment or when you come in if your pet is sick.

- How do i know if i need to be seen?
Our reception teams will advise you when you phone. You won't know if the vet has applied this document already as it is stored on our practice management systems or written in your pets' clinical history.

- Will i need to be seen more regularly?
No. Once you have been seen by the vet then they will issue a prescription which allows quarterly meds to be given in instalments until your next 12 monthly health check is due. We would always try and ensure this at your pet’s annual vaccination or health check.

- If i am requested to be seen before further products are dispensed will there be a charge for this?
No. If we ask you to attend the practice for a consult for parasites health check, then there will be no charge. These checks will be very quick and are not suitable if you have questions on a medical condition or concerns about your pet's health in any way

- Will there be a charge if my pet is due a general health check and/or doesn’t have vaccines annually?
Yes. There will be a charge as this consult will carry a full clinical examination and review of the history and any current meds doses. At this health check we will prescribe a year’s worth of parasite medications as needed.

-Is this an Ashworth Vets decision?
No. This is led by the RCVS and is beyond our control. Our vets need to adhere to these protocols or could be deemed non-compliant by the RCVS.

- How do i order my next lot of flea and worm products?
As usual. When you call in, starting on the 2nd Jan, our reception team will advise you if you need to be seen. For most patients who have parasite treatments, this may be a requirement. If your parasite treatment requirement is not urgent, then we may try and link this check to any other appointments that may be due such as a booster or repeat meds check for other long-term drugs.

- I have ordered Flea and worm meds and not requested to be seen – what does that mean?
Great news! This means the vet has already authorised 12 months for your pet and means we can continue dispensing, without further appointments being required

- What if I would like to change the parasites medications my pet is on?
The new restrictions means that any change in parasites medications must be authorised by a vet when your pet is seen. Under certain circumstances, this may have been pre authorised by your vet depending on entries made at the original health exam. We can advise you if this is the case but please bear in mind an appointment may be required to change/discuss different parasite medications. Such as moving from topical to oral products.
Please leave as much time as possible before your products run out so that if we need to see your pet, we can get an appointment booked in and issue your next packet before its due. When phoning for repeat orders, please give a minimum of 48hours, as now it may be that we must see you before the meds can be issued.

We really do understand that this will be frustrating for busy owners. Time is precious and we wouldn't be asking owners to come in if we didn't have to. We hope that by making these visits free of charge, this will help and we will only be asking you to come in for an extra appointment if it's a requirement.

Please remember this is a legal requirement and not something we vets have chosen to do. Please be kind to our staff and remember we must follow these rules and will try and do our very best to ensure your pet gets the meds they need as quickly as possible and ensure we are compliant to the RCVS too. New protocols can take a while to organise and roll out especially when it involves thousands of patients💙

Carnival 2023!
We had an amazing time dressing up and becoming the children's classic - The Hungry Caterpillar. Our Carnival staff, mostly Sam at Fleet, handmade most of the costumes and has been planning them for the last 6 months. Her efforts were rewarded with an amazing 1st place in the Walking category. We then had an amazing dog show with an overwhelming turnout and many of the classes were full. We have got some shots of the day but if you have any of your winning pet pictures then please share them on here as we would love to see your dog sporting their rosette. Thank you for everyone that supported us and joined us on the far field this afternoon. We will update you on how much has been raised for charity later in the week. 😍🤩🥳
