Does your dog want to join in with everything?
Dogs are part of the family so you may want to include them in everything but some things would do more harm than good. When using sparklers it is often dark and your dog may naturally follow you outside but you could trip over them, making your dog a potential fire hazard...be careful 😅

Dogs can get very excitable at Christmas as things are not normally this busy and loud. Also, there may be treats or objects that your dog would love to get their paws on but it's not safe for them to do so.
Here is one to look out for - chocolate decorations on your tree
These can easily fall on the floor and be hoovered up by your dog. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs so best to eat them all so they don't get a chance, or place them elsewhere out of reach!
You're not a proper dog owner if you don't get your dog a present for Christmas - FACT.
Whether it's fancy dog treats or a Christmas jumper they need to have a gift to open on Christmas! Have you done your doggy Christmas shopping?

As we get closer to New Year's Eve, the threat of fireworks will be soon upon us. Many dogs are frightened of fireworks and you may experience changes in their behaviour.
Here are a couple of tips to distract your dog:
- Keep them calm by giving them a long-lasting dog chew
- Keep the TV or radio on in the room they are in as this drowns out some noise
- Don't confine your dog to one room, let them have free rein to find their safe place.

When we have cold hands or feet we layer up, so you should do the same for your dog. You might struggle to put boots on your dog as it's not something that feels natural to them, a good tip is to try Vaseline or paw balm on there little feet during the winter!
This will help with hydration and protect their paws from extreme cold and salt which causes their paws to dry out and crack.
Is your dog a stick or ball kind of fetcher?
Some dogs love a ball to be thrown and others like sticks when playing fetch, it can be down to your dog's personality but often it is due to the breed. Springer Spaniels and Labradors love to play fetch and carry things as that's how they were bred.

These days many pet owners will take their dog to a dog groomer but there may be times where you need to groom your dog at home. It's important to know what type of fur your dog has so that if you do wash and brush your pooch you know that you are using the right tools and products.

Each and every dog has its own little quirks but when you have 2 dogs together...it's a completely different ball game. There always seems to be a sweet one who doesn't put a paw wrong, and a troublemaker who causes all sorts of mischief! 😇😈

If you take your dog on a familiar walk where they know not to go near the river or lake it's a completely different story if the water is frozen. Your dog may suddenly try to cross it or jump in which can be dangerous, even if it's cold enough for the water to freeze it won't be hard enough to support your dog's weight.
If you are concerned about your dog doing this, put your dog on a leash when they are near a body of water it's always best to be cautious.
As dog owners, we speak to our dogs as if they can fully understand us...😅
Some things they might understand like 'walk' and 'treat' but having a full on conversation with them would prove to be difficult.

Socialising your dog when it's a puppy will help them understand how the world works, it also will help shape your dog in a healthy way to bring out their best personality traits.
It's important that they get used to adults and children as well as other dogs as you want your dog to feel comfortable in either company. You can do this by setting up dog play dates with a friend's dog and attending puppy classes.
Walking your dog is not only great for your mental health but your physical health too, and your dog's of course.
There are some downsides to walks, our furry friends often find the dirtiest, muddiest and wettest places to go, wouldn't you agree? 😅

Did you know that you can make a tug toy for your dog out of old clothes?
If you are about to throw out a couple of raggy t-shirts - don't! Use them to create a tug toy that you and your dog can use together. Cut the t-shirts into strips, gather them together and do a big knot at one end. Then divide the strips into 3 lots so that you can braid them, do this until you reach the end. Once you've done this, do another big knot as you did at the beginning, and then ENJOY!
