It’s with great sadness I share the news that Buzz was laid to rest on Saturday😢💔

We’ve had the best times on our walks over the years🐾 Buzz was a gentle giant💙, & loved nothing more than rolling in the long grass!🥰🤣

Rest in peace Buzzy 🐝

My love & thoughts are with Lilli, & the family❤️ xx

With Easter fast approaching 🥚🐥🌷 just a little reminder to keep ALL chocolate 🍫 & Hot X Buns out of reach from our four legged friends!🐕‍🦺🦮… accidents do happen, (just ask my son & Wilson!🦮🍫😬), so here’s a useful guide as to just how much chocolate 🍫 ingested is a toxic dose to your dogs body weight.

We have been notified that a poisonous plant is being used as decoration in a pot plant that can be purchased in garden centres and possibly florists.

The pot plant is Livistona rotundifolia (footstool palm; also known as Saribus rotundifolius) and pots of these plants are decorated with three fibrous balls. The balls are the skeletonised fruit of Cerbera odollam (su***de tree, pong-pong). Within each fruit is a kernel that is extremely toxic; a single kernel can be fatal if eaten and poses a risk to both pets and people. The toxic compounds in Cerbera odollam are cardiac glycosides, which are also found in foxglove, oleander, lily of the valley and other plants.

If you have these fibrous fruits in your pot plant, remove them and dispose of them safely. It you are worried your pet may have eaten the plant material contact Animal PoisonLine (01202 509 000)or your vet immediately.

Today is Stir-up Sunday, the last Sunday before Advent, and the traditional day to prepare and mix your Christmas puddings🎄🎁

Remember that raisins, sultanas and currants are toxic to pets, and ingestion of a small amount can be enough to cause kidney damage. It is not fully understood how these foods cause poisoning, and there is no correlation between the amount eaten and the likelihood of an animal developing complications. This means that even a small amount can be enough to cause serious kidney impairment.

Having not anticipated this week to be so warm ☀️ I left my trusty thermometer & stethoscope @ work!🤦🏻‍♀️

Though I’ve been checking the Crate Escapees femoral pulses ( of which normal resting heart ❤️ rate is 60-180bpm, depending on breed & size), checking mucous membrane colour (of which should be a nice salmon pink colour, in cases of over heating the colour could present as a darkened red, due to vasodilation & increased cardiac output, or pale/ cyanotic- blue tinged, due to shock).

Dora & Buzz here being the perfect patients lining up to have their femoral pulses checked 💓

Thoroughly enjoyed all my walks 🐾 with the Crate Escapees this week😁

Now I’m off on my holiday🏖️😎🍹🙌🏻, no doubt I’ll find a few stray foreign dogs to make a fuss of whilst I’m there!🤗🤣

You might have noticed the absence of one spotty dog, Dexter, this past week…

Dex underwent surgery with my colleagues @ to have his cruciate ligaments repaired! (CBLO).

One week post-op & pleased to report Dex is doing very well👏🏻

Wishing him a smooth recovery ❤️‍🩹 & can’t wait to have him back walking with the Crate Escapees 🩵🐾

It’s with great sadness I share the news that Neo was laid to rest last week 😔💔

I’ve known Neo since he was a pup as my parents are his neighbours.

When I’d drop Neo home after his walks without fail he’d head straight to my parents house as he knew they’d give him a treat & Neo even knew where the treat cupboard was located in their kitchen!🤣

I’m going to miss our walks together dreadfully😢 & I know the other Crate Escapees will too😔🐾

I’ve got my stethoscope 🩺 & thermometer 🌡️ back out, much to the Crate Escapees delight!… tho their safety is paramount in this heat☀️, vitals checked ✔️ all dogs within normal limits.

FYI dogs normal heart ❤️ rates:
Small dogs average 90 to 120 beats per minute

Medium dogs average 70 to 110 beats per minute

Large dogs average 60 to 90 beats per minute

Respiratory rates: 10-30 breaths per minute 💨

Temperature: 38.3 ‘c- 39.2’c
