Raymond has joined us in daycare before but tonight will be his first over night stay in preparation for later in the year when he stays for a weeks holiday.

If your dog hasn’t stayed with me before I encourage daycare visits and over night stays before their longer holiday with us, this helps to familiarise them with the routine and surroundings here. 🐶

Hello everyone, hope you’ve all had a lovely Christmas and New Year? I’m back at work now and looking forward to seeing all your doggie soon.
Just a reminder my prices have now increased if you would like more information please let me know.
If your dog is booked in for holiday boarding between now and august and you haven’t yet paid your deposit please get in touch or your booking may be cancelled.
If your dog is joining me for daycare or boarding over the next few months please provide them with a coat, we walk out in all weathers and as I’m walking round the countryside it’s rather wet and muddy atm. 🐶🐶

Happy New Year 🎆🐶🎇 from myself and Lewis 🎊🎊 wishing you all the best for 2024!

Does your dog get over excited when people come round?
What technique do you use to calm the situation?
Do you shut your dog back and let them out when they have calmed down?
Do you keep them on a lead so they are easier to control?
Do you give them a chew stick to keep them entertained?
Do you tell the people entering to ignore yours dog until they have calmed down?
Do you get you dog to stay on their bed?

What ever your technique is the most important thing is repetition, stick to your action, word/cues and practice. Set up training sessions and practice with your family coming in, and keep your dog calm.

Picture of indi learning she must be calm when people come in and keep all four feet on the floor 🐶🤎

Busy start to the week I’ve forgotten to take pictures of all the dogs, But here is Luna and Ted.

Luna enjoyed her first day in daycare, she knows Lewis well so just followed his lead and was very content! 🥰

Ted is still joining me twice a week for his confidence building walks, he’s doing so well and doesn’t worry about meeting people and other dog now when out walking. 🐶🤎

Is your dogs lead or the cupboard/draw where you keep it a trigger? Does your dog get over excited and out of control when it sees the lead or when you go to that cupboard? Does it take you ages to get yours dogs lead on simply because they can’t keep still from all that excitement?

Quite often we make the lead a trigger for over excitement, this is because we only get the lead out when it is time for a walk. Getting the lead out (going to that lead cupboard/draw) needs to be something that happens often and not just at walk time. The lead is just another object like any thing else in your house you can move around.
Getting the lead out doesn’t automatically mean get excited we are going for a walk, teach your dog that you can move the lead round and it doesn’t mean anything.

Start the walk as you mean to go on, calm with focus! 🐶🐶

Did you know a high % of young dogs don’t know how to switch off, this is because dogs are not very good a self relaxing (very similar to an over tired child that doesn’t want to go to bed).
It’s important from a young age to teach your dog to go lay down on there bed, relax and sleep. Some dogs need that direction/help from us so they understand this is part of everyday life.

Reggie is manic and does everything at 100 miles and hour, he finds it hard to switch off especially if he can hear noise outside the house or if someone different from his owner come in the house, he runs round jump up at everything causing chaos, this means he can be on the go 24/7! He never uses his bed to lay down during the daytime. We are working on teaching him to switch off and relax with little distractions around to start with.

Is your dog reactive or high energy out on walks? 😳
Do you dread taking your dog out? 😟
Are walks stressful, do you avoid people and other dogs? 😖

Please get in touch your walks don’t have to be like this, with my help walks can be a lot calmer, relaxing and enjoyable for both you and your dog. 😊

I also run a monthly group walk/training session, I allow reactive dogs to join once assess and mentally ready to do so. 🐶

Fantastic group walk this morning, at the end of our walk after we have done some different exercises (passing by etc) we work on focus doing lots of different things.

Who would like to take a guess at how many reactive dogs were on todays walk?? 🐶🤔

I met this boy today he’s absolutely gorgeous 🥰🥰 I love him!
He will make a fantastic dog in the right hands with someone who has the time and experience to put into his training. He needs a very active home with someone who would like to work with him doing something like canicross, obedience, agility, scent training etc.
He’s only a year old and finding him the right forever home is not going to be easy but this is number one priority for F.A.I.T.H. Animal Rescue to ensure he has a secure and stable forever home.

Fancy joining me for Friday night 5k, ideal for beginners, slow paced run, no one left behind. All welcome! 🐶 🏃🏻‍♀️

If you want to find out more about canicross this is a good place to start.
If your a dog lover but don’t have a dog to run with and would like some company or motivation on runs come and join us.

All you need is a good head touch, some Hi Vis and some decent running training (we will be running on wet muddy track at time so trail running trainers are best).
If your running with your dog please use the correct equipment, happy to help and give advice on this.

No cost just a £1 voluntary donation in the pot at the end of the run (all money raised will be going to Huxley’s Vision to help visually impaired children in our local community).

Message me if you interested and would like more information.

A bit of information about Bloat….

In the past I have working with dogs that have suffered with bloat and needing surgery, also now owning an Irish setter (a breed statistically prone to bloat) I’ve had to do my homework to lower the risk of Lewis ever getting it.

Bloat is more common in larger, deep chested breeds the Irish setter is a good example of a deep chested dog. Overweight and underweight dogs are also more prone to boat.

There are some steps you can do to prevent your dog getting bloat..
1. Keep your dog at a healthy weight
2. Don’t let them eat to fast, use a slow feeder bowl.
3. Do not exercise your dog straight after food time, leave at least one hour or longer if possible after feeding your dog before you go for a walk.

At the end of last week Lunar had her second session and wow 🤩 what an improvement, I sat down and had a conversation with her owner lunar just slept on her bed not a sound from her (before my help having strangers in the house was hard work for everyone lunar would constantly bark and pace up and down, she was so anxious, her owners struggled to have a proper conversation unless they put lunar outside).

Benny came for his socialising session, we worked on calm energy around my dogs, And loose lead walking when there were no distractions around.

13/11/2023

Loose lead walking 🐶
They are many techniques you can try to get your dog walking on a loose lead next to you.

Try treats if your dog struggles to focus on you.
Change the speed on your walk, fast to slow.
Stop if they go out in front and teach a back cue.
Voice cues talking to them in a slightly higher pitched voice.
Practice in your garden with no distractions.
Start off with just a few steps and build on that.
Repeat daily.

With Lewis if I look at him and talk to him telling him how good he is being he loves it and trots next to me on a loose lead looking up at me all proud.
With Benny I worked on slowing my walk and getting him to focus on what I was doing.

What’s your dogs feeding routine like??

Does your dog get over excited and jump up at food time?
Do you just put the food down and walk away?
Does you dog sit and wait for it’s food?
Do you make your dog do a few tricks for food?
Does your dog eat straight away or graze?

Share your routine in the comments…

I feed my dogs all separately for safely reason obviously I have a lot of different dogs in my household. Food goes down and gets taken away 5mins later as all my dogs are in together I can’t leave food down.
My old dogs and house guest are always asked to wait so I can put the food down without it being taking from my hand.
Lewis likes to work for his food so we do some extra mental stimulation at food times 🤎🐶
It’s important to teach manners around food and at food times.

Little ted has been joining me twice a week for a walk to help build his confidence when away from his home and owner. He is fantastic with my dogs but nervous of people he doesn’t know, he can even be worried about passing people in the street or if they are walking behind him.
Coming on walks with me (which is out of his comfort zone) he is slowly learning with plenty of reassurance to trust and that nothing bad is going to happen. 🐶

06/11/2023

After all your feed back last week you will be please to hear that I’ve decided to go ahead and renew my licence next year In August when it runs out 😁😁

This means I can now take bookings for the end of next year, August 2024 onwards to end of year. This will be on the understanding that if for any reason my renewal doesn’t go through (this will be done three months before due date) you will have to find alternative arrangement for your dog.

I will be having a price increase from 1st January 2024…
Holiday Boarding £30 per dog, per day
(Including drop off and pick up day)
Daycare £19 per dog, per day
I can be flexible with drop off and pick up times.
One to One Training Session £55-£75 per session (price will depend on location and nature of problem and will be down to my discretion).

If you would like to book your dog in for boarding please message me for availability 🐶

Regards Katie

Someone’s having a bit to much fun in this morning training session 🙈😂🤎 i love him he’s like a big bear 🐻

Bobby can be very high energy when off lead with his brother Billy, often charging at him knocking into him and jumping all over him. He is totally the wrong energy and very over the top!

Dogs energy level can escalate very quickly so it’s important to have the right state of mind before letting them off in a safe environment.

What is there play like at home? If they get out of control at home or in the garden the same will happen when on an open field.

Do they loose focus quickly and switch off to your command? Practice at home with little distractions and build up to when they are distracted, so when you tell them to calm they listen.

Do not let them off unless they are calm, let them off individually first to run off all the pent up energy.

Use a ball, treats so them are more distracted on that than playing.

These are just some of the points we went over today to help Bobby and Billy’s owner be more prepared with training.
