The honey sold last was produced by these bees at home in Scartho. Can you spot the queen , honey and pollen.

Our job for this evening - it’s a sticky one! Removing the wax with a hot knife. This is a capping which the bees apply once they are happy with the consistency of the honey. The frames are then spun to extract the honey

You will probably find our raw natural honey crystallises unlike shop bought. If you prefer it runny you could try storing it in a warm place. Its easier to spread and soon melts on your toast 🍯

This is a video of a hive we visited today, The new queen is about to emerge from her cell (cocoon) in the centre. Unfortunately the camera man forgot he was filming but as he moves back onto cell you see the queen dash down.

Another weekend dodging showers with the bees and new keeper😀
It is a very difficult time for the bees with such changeable weather. Up to 50,000 bees in each hive not able to get out to top up supplies instead eating into their stores this can make them very grumpy.
Pictures show one of our apiaries, eggs , sealed brood and honey stores.

Spring Bee fact Friday
The worker bees in spring are busy with finding food for their colony as soon as the first source of pollen emerges. A worker bee can visit around 2,000 flowers per day. However, due to its capacity for carrying food sources, bees can visit only around 50 to 100 flowers before having to return to the hive to dispose of its supply.
