We are very lucky here at Hope Livery to have lots of super hacking. Whether that be road hacking, on quiet country lanes, with plenty of hills for those wanting to build fitness, or if you want to take advantage of the East Anglian Farm rides and go off round the farm tracks, there’s options for everyone. ☺️

It’s a MYTH! It’s OLD advice! Yet Still COMMON advice!
Ok, so once upon a time
They used to say…
“WORM YOUR HORSE AFTER THE FIRST FROST!”
(in fact, there are still many articles out there telling you to do just that!)

❌ BUT IT'S WRONG ADVICE
why?

👉 Now you will need to worm your horse over winter!

You need to worm for Inhibited and encysted Redworm (IESR), bots and possibly tapeworm if you tested for tapeworm and have been advised to treat.

To do that you should use Equest or Equest Pramox (if treating tapeworm following sqp guidance).

✋But WAIT….

And not until the first frost 🥶

✋ WAIT LONGER ⏳

We need the worms to encyst into the gut wall first! (One frost doesn’t mean it's cold enough yet!)
🥶 ❄️ 🥶 ❄️ 🥶

There needs to be a PERIOD of frost, and we need to worm for IESR when there’s the least amount of daylight hours.
The lesser daylight hours affects them more than the cold weather.
Therefore the best time to worm will be between 🎄Christmas and 🎆 New Year!
Because the shortest day is the 21st of December. 🌞
And then we’re pretty much guaranteed cold weather in January.
Worming too early in November or early December will probably mean you need to worm again in the spring! As the redworms are still encysting and inhibiting at that time.
Equest and Equest Pramox are the ONLY drugs we have to treat IESR.
The more we use them unnecessarily, the less effective they become for the whole equine population.
Therefore worming too early means it won’t be effective.
So if someone has told you or tells you to worm ‘after the first frost’... Or you were taught that this year just...
❌ DON’T.
✅ DO explain to others this advice has now changed and why.
✅ DO point them towards EFECS for the latest advice Should things change again 😘
✅ DO hold your horse wormers till around Christmas!

Are you dreading winter? Wondering if you’ll have grazing or the fields will be shut?
Well that’s not a worry here. We have separate winter grazing, individual paddocks for all the horses. The only time the horses will be in, is if the weather is absolutely horrendous.
We have one stable available now, with another available in November due to a livery moving closer to home.
These are both for part or full livery.

We are a small, rural livery yard based in Pebmarsh. Being a yard of 17 stables, means that all the horses are giving the care and attention they need.
Individual winter and summer turnout (not 24/7).
For the schooling enthusiasts, we have a 20x40 arena with lights (recently full refurbished with new drainage).
If hacking is more your cup of tea, we have access to plenty of East Anglian Farm rides, as well as plenty of hacking on quiet rural roads.
Several competition venues within 1hr commute, including Codham Park, Frenches and Suffolk Equestrian Centre.

I am now available to offer freelance riding between Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds. With over 20 years riding experience under my belt, I have ridden all types, from your welshies up to your big warmbloods and everything in between. In most recent years, I have focused on re-schooling and low level eventing. Most recently, I’ve been backing and producing my own youngster, Leo. I am a sympathetic rider, who listens to the horse to get the best out of them.
I am fully insured and happy to chat about your needs.
Please bear in mind, I am 5ft11 and 11 stone so am unable to ride anything smaller than 15hh unless they are true weight carriers.

Won’t be long until we will be clearing all the fence boundaries and doing the all important repairs on the summer paddocks ready for the switch over.

Paddock maintenance got started a couple of weeks ago on the summer paddocks. All paddocks have been harrowed, and treated with iron to get rid of moss, allowing the grass breathing space to grow in the spring (when it arrives 🥶). Then they’ll be fertilised to give them that all important boost ready for the summer.
Our newly seeded 5 acres will be ready to go this spring as well, allowing us more grazing room for the horses!

Here at Hope Livery, we are excited to now be able to offer more livery packages to suit all individual needs:
🐎 both short term and long term schooling: this package will be completely customised to the owners needs, as little or as much is required. We can also work with other equine professionals (physios, saddle fitters, vets etc) to make sure your horse is getting all the care and attention needed.
🐎 Rehabilitation livery - struggling to carry out the all important rehabilitation after an injury or period of rest. Let us take care of it for you. We will work alongside your equine professionals to make sure your horse is properly rehabbed, with your horses individual needs in mind. We know that every horse needs to be rehabbed in their own way and will take it at your horses own pace, to give them the best possible chance.

Here at Hope Livery we will have a few livery spaces becoming available:
1xDIY space available from the beginning of March, this includes stable, use of facilities, and separate individual paddock for winter and summer.
3xPart or Full livery spaces available from the beginning of April.
Our part livery (5 day livery, not including bank holidays) includes bedding (4 bales of straw per week), ad lib hay and basic feed. Individual turnout, day turnout during the winter and night turnout during the summer.
Our full livery is as above but 7 day livery all year round, and also includes being on our worm count programme.
