A Little update on the shop bristlenose plecos just 12 days on these little guys are now all free swimming.
Also just a reminder we are open all bank holiday including Bank Holiday Monday.
I thought I would share a little update on the Bristlenose eggs that spawned at the shop. At this stage they are eating their yolk sack and are getting ready to leave the egg. I love this stage. How incredibly cute are they.

Friendly Fish Aquatics
A customer Came in the shop today and thought I would share to possible help others?
She asked do I need to break the ice on my pond for my fish?
I said yes as this will allow for gas to exchange.
However there is right way to defrosting your pond and a wrong way if you smash a hole in the ice the shock waves can travel down to your hibernating fish and disturb them and could make them sick.
The right way is to get a saucepan of boiling water and carefully make a hole in the ice by placing it on top of the ice creating a hole.
Preventing this in the first place I would recommend placing a ball floating in your pond to stop your pond from freezing or another great way is to have an air stone running this is great way for exchange of gases and stop your pond freezing over.

The best part of offering Daphnia is the fact that since they are freshwater organisms, they can live in the aquarium until the fish eat them so unlike flake or pellets food if your fish don’t eat all you offer them, this will generally fall to the bottom in your gravel and start rotting and will pollute your aquarium were as Live food will not do this .
Live food is a great way of keeping your fish in prime condition its a natural food that they would be eating in the wild.
Its also great to watch they instincts kick in hunting down live food.
