Good afternoon, everyone!

If anyone could kindly donate kitten food or formula milk, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.

11/09/2024

It’s always heartbreaking when we have to turn away a wild bird, as our instinct is to help any creature in need. However, the well-being of all animals under our care must come first. After much reflection, we made the difficult decision to no longer accept wild birds at Furry and Friends. This choice wasn’t made lightly, but rather in consideration of the stress it places on both the wild birds and the other animals in our sanctuary.

Wild birds, especially when in distress, require specialized care that can be challenging to provide alongside caring for cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other small animals. Their unique needs are often difficult to balance with those of other animals, especially when some, like cats, are natural predators.

Why Cats and Birds Shouldn't Be Rescued Together 🐈‍⬛🦅
Rescuing both wild birds and cats within the same sanctuary presents a challenge because their needs are vastly different. Cats are natural hunters, and wild birds could be at risk in such an environment, no matter how careful we are. Even with separate housing, the stress levels in both species could rise, affecting their welfare.

For instance:
- Predatory Instinct Cats, even well-cared-for ones, retain their natural predatory instincts, which could cause distress to wild birds in the vicinity.
- Specialized Care: Wild birds often require rehabilitation for flight and foraging, while cats need space to express their own behaviors. Balancing both species' needs would dilute the attention and resources we can give each one.

At Furry and Friends, we focus on providing a safe haven for Free Roamers (stray and semi-free roam cats and cats at risk ), as well as being a sanctuary for guinea pigs
We also rescue rabbits, and other small animals. As much as we would love to help every creature that comes to us, we must ensure that we’re providing the best care possible for those we are equipped to help.

RSPCA Advice on Wild Birds 🐦
The RSPCA recommends that wild birds be taken to specialized wildlife rescues or rehabilitation centers. These centers are equipped to handle the specific care requirements of birds, including the need for rehabilitation and eventual release back into the wild. This allows the birds to recover in a less stressful environment, where their safety and well-being are the primary focus.

By focusing on these animals, we can give them the attention and space they need, while knowing that wild birds can find the care they require in dedicated wildlife centers. It’s all about finding the right balance and ensuring that each rescue animal is given the best chance to thrive.

A Safe Haven’s Choice 🌿

We’ve built a home where paws can roam,
Where meows of hope replace the stone.
But though the sky may call with song,
Our love for cats is just as strong.

For guinea pigs, and rabbits too,
We give them care so they renew.
Wild wings need space, to soar and thrive,
And in our hearts, they still survive.

Though birds may sing, and skies may call,
Our rescue stands to care for all,
The ones who fit within our walls,
With every purr, and gentle paw. 🐾

Meet Hugo, the biggest rabbit in our sanctuary!
**(Not for Adoption)**
🐰 He was rescued a while back from an abandoned property as a baby
along with three guinea pigs (two females and one male). They were all left without food or water and in very bad condition 😢

All of them were in very poor condition — all the guinea pigs and Hugo had mange, and Hugo was severely underweight. Now, Hugo has been neutered and fully vaccinated 🩺. He’s a free-roaming bunny 🐇, enjoying full run of our garden and home. He’ll live with us here for the rest of his life in our sanctuary, receiving all the love and care he deserves. ❤️

This page is dedicated to our rescue and Guinea pig sanctuary, where we share updates about our rescues, adoptions, happy endings, and appeals for support. Please note that we do not allow others to tag their own rescue, Instagram, or business links here, except for businesses that have kindly donated to us or offered free help. We have worked hard to achieve charity status and want to ensure that our page is not used as a free publishing platform or for unrelated promotions.

We use our own traps for rescue and are fully self-funded. Currently, we are only able to take in very sick or very young kittens and their mothers or very sick cats that would not be able to be able to Survive must longer on the streets , as well as female Guinea pigs and skinny pigs that we run our very own Guinea pigs sanctuary here at Furry and Friends Harworth Bassetlaw . On cats and kittens
Our many focus is on those in urgent need and are in outdoor situations, not cats and kittens in home environments already . We also offer a full, free enclosure for any Free Roaming cats in desperate need. This is not for simply moving a cat colony, but for truly in-need Free Roaming cats who cannot adapt to an indoor setting while they receive treatment, spaying, or neutering. This special outside home setting is reserved for cats that are not keen on humans and require a unique environment.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Beautiful 😍 All of these precious ones are looking for their forever homes, except for the little one at the bottom right—he’s still too young to go up for adoption just yet. All adoption processes and our minimum donation adoption fees apply.

We cannot accept any less as this goes back into the rescue. It only covers a very small portion of what it costs us, not including additional veterinary treatments, bills, cat food, and supplies needed to keep their tummies fed and paws clean. This also covers only a third of the costs for monthly flea and worming treatments. Kittens need worming every two weeks, and their formula is quite expensive. Additionally, costs include microchipping, and this is just for our rescue cats or kittens—not including the other rescue animals and our Guinea Pig Sanctuary. 🐾🐹

As a fully self-funded and non-profit rescue and sanctuary, we don’t receive any grants, external funding, or discounted veterinary services.

❤️"The Song of the Free Roamers"❤️
*By Furry and Friends Animal Rescue and Guinea Pig Sanctuary*

Beneath the sky where winds run free,
A world untouched by lock or key,
Our Free Roamers stroll with heads held high,
Through fields of green, beneath the sky.

No longer "feral," cast aside,
They’re brave explorers, eyes open wide.
In every step, they chase the light,
Wild hearts, but spirits bright.

We see their grace, we know their worth,
These gentle souls, they roam the earth.
With every purr, with every glance,
They live a life of second chance.

At Furry and Friends, we proudly say,
The word "feral" fades away.
For every cat, each kitten's tale,
Deserves to be sung on winds that sail.

Together we stand, hearts full and true,
Free Roamers, we stand with you.

**🐈At Furry and Friends, we are putting a stop to the use of "feral cat" or "kitten at our Rescue and Sanctuary 🐈"**
From now on, they are our **Free Roamers**, wild in spirit, yet deserving of love and care.

Good morning everyone! ☀️

We are in need of cat litter, cat and kitten food, and hay. 🐱🐾

If anyone has any lying around that their cat won't use, we would be happy to accept it here. We are also happy to take in open or damaged bags of cat litter and food. Maybe your cat won't eat it? We're happy to accept it, as long as it's still in date. Unfortunately, we can't accept out-of-date food.

We're also in need of more cat carriers.

Thank you From us all at Furry and Friends Animal Rescue and Guinea Pig Sanctuary, Harworth ❤️🐾

From the bottom of my heart and soul, I want to share a story that not only weighs heavy on my mind but reflects a larger issue we face in the rescue world—how misunderstandings and judgment can hurt both people and the animals we are working so hard to save.

A man who loved his puppy dearly reached out for help, believing that the rescue he contacted would offer the support his beloved pet needed. The puppy, despite having a minor wobble in its walk, was otherwise happy and healthy. Trusting that a larger organization could provide more resources, the small rescue made the difficult decision to transfer the puppy, thinking it was in the best interest of the animal.

But what followed was a devastating example of how stories can get twisted, just like the game of "Chinese whispers." What started as a man asking for help turned into a false narrative, with people casting him as a villain. His love for his puppy became overshadowed by rumors and drama spread on social media. Tragically, when the man reached out to check on the puppy, he learned that it had been put to sleep by the larger rescue—despite the fact that the puppy was full of life and simply needed a chance. The small rescue, which had first taken in the man’s plea, was heartbroken. This puppy could have been saved, and the man who cared so deeply for it should never have been painted as a monster. Yet, the desire for drama and a “good story” led to this tragedy.

In the same way that this man’s plea for help was misinterpreted, we recently faced a similar experience within our own community. After working tirelessly to become an established charity in our local area, we were refused entry to a community event because another rescue organization from outside the area was attending. It was disheartening to be excluded after all the hard work we put into building our presence here.

Yesterday, however, we were kindly invited to a different local event, and this time, another outside charity was also booked. Yet, this time, it didn’t seem to be an issue at all. It was hard not to wonder why we were refused before, and it leaves us feeling uncertain about next year’s event as well. It’s heartbreaking, like we aren’t seen as good enough to be part of our own local community, despite our efforts and dedication. 💔

A Powerful Message to everyone share with love and kindness

Whether it’s rescuing animals or simply being part of our local community, we should always strive to lift each other up, not tear each other down. It’s easy to misjudge, to jump to conclusions, or to exclude, but the damage left behind can be lasting and painful. The animals and the people who care for them deserve our support, and we must ensure that we are fostering unity, not division.

Poem from the bottom of my heart ❤️

*In whispers faint, we lose the truth,*
*From heart to heart, a tale uncouth.*
*A plea for help turned into pain,*
*A loving man, now left in vain.*

*The puppy’s fate, so wrongly sealed,*
*While rumors spread that should have healed.*
*And in our hearts, we know the cost,*
*When kindness fades and love is lost.*

*So let our words, like rivers, flow,*
*In truth and love, that we may grow.*

A Quote by Furry and Friends Animal Rescue and guinea pig sanctuary ❤️

*"When we exclude others, we only build walls that keep compassion out. In lifting each other up, we build a bridge where kindness can always cross."*

Let this be a reminder that every act of exclusion, whether in rescue or in our local community, has ripple effects. The work we do is too important, and the animals and people we serve deserve our full support. We must stand together, not apart.

A big thank you to Richard for his dedication in working all day and night yesterday and over the last week , and for his help at the stall today
We’ve been incredibly busy working on our Guinea Pig Sanctuary enclosure, caring for four male rescue guinea pigs, six rats, and two rescued kittens.
None of us have had much sleep due to feeding every two hours. We’ve also been updating both our male and female guinea pig enclosures. The wood for these projects has cost over £500 the wire as cost us over £150 , which we’ve covered out of our own pockets.

Welcome to our comprehensive Feral enclosure, which includes a dedicated indoor area that the cat has access to via their own tunnel. The indoor area features its own heating, lighting, and air conditioning when needed, along with a sleeping area, feeding area, and a play area. It also includes a sand pit for the Feral cat to play in while under our care, whether they are healing or waiting to find a forever home. If a feral cat needs to be relocated for any reason, the enclosure is designed to accommodate these needs.

Chester has found his forever home here, and his faithful companion, Casper, who is up for adoption, is always by his side. Chester will be visiting the vet on Friday as one of the first older cats to receive vaccinations. Alongside Chester, Rambo, a 14-year-old cat who has also been signed over to our sanctuary for the remainder of his life, will be vaccinated. Noah might stay here unless we find a perfect 5-star home for him and are completely satisfied with his health. Lastly, our cherished Crystal, who is now 19 years old, remains the oldest resident in our care.

Here are Venus and Violet and Sparkles. Violet, a little feral kitten rescued here in Harworth, is still learning to fully trust. It seems her mother was likely a feral living with little human contact outdoors. However, Violet has made some fantastic friends, and her best friend is Sparkles, a special needs kitten. 📢 *Urgent Appeal for Support* 📢

For the past 3 weeks, we’ve shared our *Furry Friends Friday* initiative, kindly asking for just £1 donations to help us continue our rescue work. Unfortunately, we’ve received no donations. 😔

Meanwhile, requests for our assistance keep coming in, and though we are passionate about helping every animal in need, we simply don’t have endless funds or resources to keep going. 💔

We also reached out asking for tombola prize donations for tomorrow’s event to help raise funds, but once again, nothing has come through.

We are always here to help, but without support, it becomes incredibly difficult to manage the growing demands. Rescue work takes time, effort, and, sadly, money.

Starting Friday, we will begin vaccinating our older cats, followed by the disabled ones, working our way through the rest of the animals in our care. This crucial task will cost over £2,200 just to get started.

Events like *Furry Friends Friday* were designed to help raise the funds we need for the day-to-day care of these animals. But without donations, we’re facing an uphill battle. 😥

We need your support more than ever! Even £1 can make a difference. Please, if you can help, now is the time.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 🙏

🐾 **Meet Some of Our Cats and Kittens Still Waiting for Their Forever Homes!** 🏡
Could you offer one of them a loving home? 💖 If so, contact us today to arrange a home visit and start the adoption process! 🌟

**Please note**: All adoptions require a minimum donation. We can’t accept less, as each rescue comes with significant costs. The donation only covers about one-third of the expenses, which does not even include food, litter, and essential veterinary care. 🩺

We don’t receive any grants, funding, or large donations. This means every penny of the minimum adoption donation goes directly back into the rescue! 🐱💰 Sadly, we often spend far more than we receive on things like neutering, spaying, microchipping, and especially when caring for very ill cats and kittens, whose treatments can cost hundreds of pounds. 💸

🚨 **Important**: There’s sometimes a misconception that we receive free or discounted veterinary care, neutering, or microchipping — but the truth is, we don’t. Not even for fully feral or semi-feral cats, which can actually cost us even more. There is no external help for rescues like ours, so we must cover these expenses on our own.

In the past, we’ve traveled hours to complete adoptions only to receive no donations at all or a very low donation for a few cats that didn’t even cover half of one cat. Minimum donations for adoptions are essential, and we also don’t receive for any fuel money so we also have to cover this too . Because of this, we’ve had no choice but to introduce a minimum adoption donation. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to continue rescuing cats and kittens in desperate need. 🐾💔

Thank you for your understanding and support! 🌟
