It's not often I'm lost for words, but it happened last night at the World Grooming Conference November 11th and 12th 2023. I won up and coming groomer of the year 🎊🎊 I was nominated alongside an amazing bunch of people so it's an absolute honour to take the award home, I think the shakes and the tears probably said it all 😅 It makes all the work and the travelling worth while. Congratulations to everyone who took home awards last night!

Huge thank you again to everyone who nominated and voted for me, and to Colin Taylor and team for a great show and these beautiful awards! I love the conference because everyone can let their hair down and enjoy themselves, and its great to catch up with everyone without the competition stress! See you all again soon!

It seems to be that time of the year again. I wanted to make all my clients aware that fleas are absolutely rife at the moment. I have only had two cases in the salon and I've deep cleaned and flea bombed every inch of the place, but speaking to vets and other groomers there seems to be a lot more again this year. I've spoken to a few clients who have had them who have never had issues in the past. I think the milder weather this winter is the cause.

Please ensure your flea treatments are up to date. The advice I'm hearing at the moment is that even Frontline isn't working on them this year. My advice would be to speak to your vet to make sure you're spending your money on something that works.

There will be a £50 charge on top of the groom price for any dog that arrives with fleas. The groom will be cancelled, and I'll have to cancel the rest of the days' dogs to de-flea the salon. I have spent over £350 on flea treatments to ensure the salon stays clear. If your dog does have fleas, make sure to treat any cats and also pay attention to your car and the house.

I'm absolutely delighted to be nominated for "up and coming groomer of the year" for the second year running beside an amazing bunch of groomers!

I've travelled thousands of miles and spent a fortune. I've put a lot of blood, sweat and nervous 💩💩s into competing and organising competitions, workshops and seminars to try and get others involved. Good morning! I'm finally caught up (I think!) on messages after my holiday. This has come as quite the surprise! I'm now fully booked for the rest of the year. En route home from a great weekend at the The Scottish Dog Grooming Championships

Due to a last minute schedule change my original classes clashed so I was moved out of poodle into workshop class with hairy herbie. I did a clip and scissor T trim and came home with 1st place and Best groom of the day. 1st place for myself and Cillian yesterday in Pure Breed Scissor although unfortunately we stood alone on the podium.

Well done to all who placed and huge congratulations to Kirsty Hunt for BIS and Emma Bull for RBIS

Christmas has arrived at Hairy Pawters 🎄

Ive seen posts in some grooming groups of people struggling with double coats, and I havent seen many videos on them. There are 40 ways to skin a cat, so I've done a short video on my tips for getting the best results on a double coat. This works amazingly on dense double coats such as huskies and akitas, and also works great for breaking up impacted coats. You cant outgroom bad prep, and in my opinion the most important part of any deshed is lifting all the grease and dust from the skin. This will release all the dead hair allowing it to slide out easily. This dog spent just under 1hr 15mins in the bath, and 45 minutes on the table. He dried so much faster as you're not battling with a layer of grease and dirt. I only used a slicker brush and a comb, no rakes as all the dead hair had been released. I use a stripping shampoo first to break down the grease, and a conditioning shampoo second to hydrate the coat and add slip and shine back in. When the dog is 95% dry I use a conditioning spray and brush it into the coat while I finish drying. The first shampoo was a mix of Julie Harris strip down and CC smartwash 50 as i was using up the bottom of the bottles. The second shampoo was The Pawdinary Grooming Supplies blown away. Well that's a wrap for another year, and what a busy year its been! ✨️I've placed top 3 in every competition I've gone to ✨️I won my first (and hopefully not last) best in show ✨️Passed all my masters practical exams over 95% ✨️I was nominated for up and coming groomer of the year at the International Grooming Conference ✨️I was asked to demo at the International Grooming Conference alongside amazing groomers from all over the world ✨️I've had training by amazing groomers in two different countries ✨️I've ran some very successful confidence building workshops and met amazing groomers along the way ✨️We ran our first very successful competition and looking forward to running two next year. And none of this would have been possible without the support of my lovely clients! I spend so much time and money on this but there's nothing that excites me more than learning something new at a competition or training day and getting to try it on my clients! It gives me the fire in my belly to keep learning and improving! Im definitely looking forward to what next year brings!
