Horses do change shape throughout the year and depending on their workload, you see your horse daily so you may not notice the changes as they can be gradual. A great way to see your horses changing shape is to template them monthly, message me to have a chat and to order your own templating kit!

When we reflock saddles we check the whole saddle, giving them a little MOT / service! 🔧
The stitching, girth straps, tacks, staples, and the tree. This mornings reflock found some super loose staples, these were removed and replaced (in total we removed 5 very loose staples from this particular saddle!)

How regular templating can help with tracking weight to manage Laminitus 🐴

Laminitus is a condition that affects the tissues joining the hoof wall to pedal bone in the hoof. It can result in the pedal bone sinking or rotating within the hoof under the weight of the horse. This is why it’s important to manage horses weight, as the heavier they are, the more weight that is being placed onto the bone.

As horses are such large animals, noticing minor changes in weight can be tricky with just your eye! This is why templating can be so useful as it shows the smallest of changes around the wither, spine and cantle that can show you as the rider if they’ve changed shape, gained/lost weight or muscle and how drastically.

It’s important to know templating should not be used as the only indicator of weight flucuations within lamanitic horses, but can be used as a tool to aid other tools to help manage your horse and keep them happy and healthy! 🥰
