About us
Little Acres was created in 2015 and opened its doors summer 2016. The yard was designed and developed by me - Charlotte Keen, Hi!
I have always had a passion for animals and as a young girl I always had small pets but never imagined having my own horse (let alone becoming a coach and having my own yard one day!) I worked in retail for much of my early 20’s and I did love it , it definitely taught me some valuable life lessons that I credit to being able to run my livery and coaching business now.
At about 24 I had my first riding lesson at a riding stables near to me - I think I had about 3 lessons when I had decided I wanted my own pony. So being the type of person that likes everything done yesterday I found myself a unbacked pony.. baring in mind id had a handful of lessons and in all seriousness didn't know how to put a head collar on! Thankfully I had been doing my home work and found myself a lovely private yard to put him on and a local BHS instructor who helped me back the pony for riding and help me work towards getting a BHS qualification under my belt. I did my Level 1 riding and horsemanship through the BHS.
As I become more familiar with horses and the equestrian world I moved to some bigger yards and as my confidence grew, I felt I could hold my own next to other horse owners and not look like a total tool! I brought and sold a few more horses over the next few years and just soaked up any knowledge I could - online, books, podcasts, clinics, lessons, you name it I was doing it.
