Tortoises are back! 😍🐢

We have Eastern and Western Dwarf Hermanns Tortoises back in store! As well as plenty of starter kits to get you going on your tortoise keeping journey.

Please remember that tortoises are, quite literally, a lifelong commitment and have specific dietary and care requirements. They must be kept indoors and heated all year round and cannot be kept in the garden.

That said, they make absolutely amazing pets for the right homes. Every member of our team has at least one pet tortoise… we love them 🥰

Don’t forget, we are taking Christmas reservations! We won’t be allowing animals to be sold in the week prior to Christmas unless prearranged to prevent any impulse Christmas presents. We will require you to pass all of our usual checks before we allow animals to be reserved ☺️

Vietnamese Blue Beauty Rat Snake (Orthriophis taeniura callicyanous)

An amazing, large colubrid. They’re an active species that require plenty of space and climbing opportunities.

These guys were bred by us here at C&T so you’re welcome to meet the adults to give you an idea of what these little ones will grow in to.

Dune Geckos! 🤩 (Stenodactylus petrii).

Such an awesome little species to keep. Toni is obsessed with these little geckos. They’re entertaining, adorable and have simple care requirements once you understand their needs.

They’re a communal species so you can have an awesome enclosure with a group of these little guys in.

It's time to discuss the big C word! 🎅

We are now open for reservations on both animals and dry goods (set ups, décor etc.) for Christmas.

This means you can secure your chosen new addition in store and we will hold until an agreed date up until Christmas. We will ask for a non-refundable deposit to secure the animal (generally 25%).

Set ups can also be reserved and we offer a 'plug and go' service so we will get all of your electrics etc in your set up ready to go so you can take it home, plug it in and it's all ready for your new addition! This is a free service when purchasing a set up from us. Set ups being reserved and held will require an additional non-refundable deposit to secure.

We will be open up until and including Christmas Eve for collections of reserved goods.

We can also offer payment plans between now and Christmas to allow you to spread the cost.

Tri-Color Hognose! 🐽

We only have a couple of these amazing little snakes left. These were bred by us here at C&T. You’re welcome to see the parents if you’d like to see an adult version.

They’re a super cool species to keep! Ours are kept on a soil based substrate with mixtures of leaf litter, moss and bark chip on top. They’re a fossorial species so will spend their time burrowing in the substrate. 🍂🌿

Exciting opportunity to gain qualifications whilst working with some amazing animals! 🤩

If you’re looking for a career with exotic animals, we may be able to help! We have a vacancy for an Animal Care Assistant Apprentice. This role means that you can gain your Level 2 in Animal Care and Welfare Assistance to get you started on your career within this wonderful industry. There will also be the opportunity to continue your training and gain further qualifications.

Skills and Requirements:

- Confident with handling animals. This is an absolute must! We can train you with the more advanced species but you must be willing to get hands on with snakes, lizards, amphibians, arachnids, exotic mammals etc.
- You must be able and willing to communicate with other staff members and management.
- Attention to detail
- Willing to learn
- Hardworking
- The understanding that animal welfare comes first
- Happy to be customer facing (Training will be provided on products and customer service etc)
- Good time keeping - Animals rely on us daily and we work to a tight time schedule and routines for our animals

In return, we will do all we can to ensure you complete your apprenticeship with flying colours! You’ll be working within a close knit, fun team and with some absolutely phenomenal species. You’ll also be working with our own collection of animals which means being involved in our breeding projects etc.

Start Date: Jan and April 2025 intake available.
Salary: Apprenticeship wage.
Hours: 30 hours a week. Flexible hours but will include one weekend day.
Location: Chipperfield, Hertfordshire.
