***Managing sweet itch***
Now is the time to be thinking about preventative measures for sweet itch, BEFORE your horse gets itchy. Once sweet itch prone horses and ponies start scratching, it can be very difficult to stop them, even with medication.
In recent years there has been increased interest in a vaccine called Insol, primarily used to prevent Ringworm in horses. Whilst this vaccine is not licensed for treating sweet itch, and is therefore used 'off-licence' for this condition, it has shown anecdotally encouraging results and we are pleased to be able to offer vaccination this year for our existing clients.
The important info:
β’ Vaccination course is 2 injections, 2 weeks apart (These are ideally carried out before your horse gets itchy). This is repeated yearly.
β’ Cost is around Β£240 (inc 2 visits, injection fees & vaccine along with a fact sheet on how to manage itchy horses and ponies)
β’ This vaccine is imported and therefore anyone wanting to try the vaccinations will need to register their interest and horse details by clicking on the link below, before 26th Feb 2021. We will make one bulk order and will contact you to arrange to start vaccinating horses in early-mid March.
β’ Owners will be required to sign an βOff licenceβ medication form prior to vaccination
