Our Story...Ringehay Heritage Building Company (RHBC) is a family owned and run business based in the Peak District, they operate throughout Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Cousins Steven and Darren stand at the helm of a team of highly skilled craftsmen who specialise in the renovation and development of both new build and period properties. Each team member is committed to providing the

highest level of service, encompassing a wealth of extensive skills and knowledge to collectively help clients achieve their desired outcome. Projects range from traditional timber framed buildings and period renovation projects to unique contemporary structures. RHBC offer a friendly and professional service, and take pride that much of their work evolves from recommendations from existing and previous clients. Steven Clowes: Steven’s interest in all wood related crafts became apparent from an early age. He has an inherent respect for the raw material and the beauty that can be created from it. Prior to merging with Darren as a co-director of Ringehay Heritage Building Company, Steven accumulated 12 years of experience as a carpenter and joiner. He has always been keen to develop his skills and further his knowledge, which resulted in him enrolling on a Heritage Skills course run by the Prince’s Foundation for 12 months. Steven’s appreciation of traditional materials and techniques thrived whilst studying, he particularly enjoyed learning about oak framing, lime mortars, renders and fine joinery. Projects undertaken during the course included a pre-16th century farmhouse renovation with large-scale oak frame repairs for over 6 months and erecting a new timber-framed Bird Hyde designed by himself and his peers on Llangorse Lake. He graduated from the course and achieved an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Heritage Skills. Steven takes pride in all of his bespoke creations from work produced for clients to decorative and unique pieces for friends and family, he is flexible in all aspects of building work and is keen to develop his knowledge of all trades. His most recent project is building a 9 foot clinker dinghy from oak and larch as a gift. Steven’s main strengths lie in his depth of knowledge of natural building materials and traditional techniques, his friendly nature, genuine interest in all aspects of building work and his keen eye for design and intricate detail. Darren Pearson: Darren was born in Staffordshire on the outskirts of the Peak Park where he developed a keen interest in joinery and building from an early age and enjoyed experimenting with his first joinery toolbox. His first major project was renovating and selling a terraced house which he bought with his brother when he was 21. This inspired Darren to carry out a multitude of projects including extensions, period barn conversions, ménage and equine facilities, and extensive restorations and renovations. One of his favourite projects was creating a 3 room cellar for a pre 16th century farmhouse, and an innovative stone mullion conservatory. Darren was nominated for the prestigious ‘LABC Building Excellence Award’ in 2010. He reached the finals where he achieved the runner up position with a “Highly Recommended” status. Some of Darren’s passions include exercising his formal training as a blacksmith, the environment and sustainability, and the challenge of combining modern building techniques with traditional skills. Darren’s strengths lie in his attention to detail, his extensive experience in successful project management, and a strong foresight with regard to a project which enable him to make the most efficient use of time and resources throughout a project.

It started as a simple flagstone floor with under floor heating installation.... and grew into a whole room, stairs and landing refurb! But what a wise choice, it's going to look stunning when it's all complete.

We're very pleased to have Steffan Lomax with us on placement for the next month from The Prince's Foundation whilst he works towards gaining his NVQ. Lending his hand to pointing up an internal stone wall on pre 16C stone barn conversion. Nice work!
