My name is Rosanna and I grew up surrounded by small, fluffy family members. These, I was told, are called cats, and I decided they were probably more interesting than humans. During my childhood, fish, stick insects, rabbits and tortoises were added to the pack, and I learnt how to care for them all. From a young age I also helped my mum look after a neighbour’s pets each time they were away, and by 13 I was responsible enough to continue it on my own.
In 2015 I moved to Orkney, staying with family who already had a houseful of animals; these included cats who were more in tune with their wild side, and a rejected-sheepdog border collie. My closest kitty friend whilst there was an ex-feral, who at the beginning felt the need to remind me he was there first by sending the occasional clawed swipe my way. Needless to say, soon he was appreciating being picked up to receive cuddles, and would sit comfortably on the ultimate cat throne - a lap. In my 2 years there I also loved taking the dog on walks or runs, especially on the beach, and seeing her face light up at the sight of a squeaky ball. It was impossible not to smile every time she’d greet me with tail wags and full body wiggles of happiness!
Once back in Manchester, I’d started a zero hour contract job which wasn’t offering me many consistent hours and, missing the collie in Orkney, I thought why not fill some of the time having fun walking a doggo or two? So I set up a Tailster profile (tailster.me/relyonrosie) and quickly acquired my first client. Within a couple of months I was dog walking every day of the week and had a few cat sitting jobs on the go, and I found myself prioritising pet bookings over the original work! Along with the great feedback I was receiving from pet owners and how much I looked forward to seeing each animal, it made sense then to go full-time offering pet services. Though it was difficult starting over in a new place when I relocated to Waterloo, I’m thoroughly enjoying every day I get to spend looking after different animals and meeting new characters. :)
