As of yesterday in England, it became a legal requirement to microchip pet cats. It won’t be long before it is also required in Wales.

Microchips are essential as they enable us to reunite numerous lost pets every year.

As Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month draws to a close, last of all we have Michelle or Mish as she’s known!
Mish was originally a marine biologist but retrained as a vet nurse, qualifying as an RVN in 2021. Mish loves all things relating to anaesthesia and theatre. At home she has a menagerie of chickens, ducks, dogs, a cat, some fish, a couple of teenagers and a long suffering husband who never says no to the waifs and strays she brings home!

Next up in is our RVN Ceri!
Ceri grew up locally and is a fluent Welsh speaker. She qualified as an RVN in 2015 and has worked in a variety of first opinion practices.
Ceri is a highly skilled consulting nurse and is currently completing an anaesthetic emergency course to help keep your furry friends even safer.
Ceri is kept busy at home with her young children and helping on her family farm.

We are getting towards the end of Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month but we still have a few fabulous team members to introduce!

Jen joined the Aran team 3 years ago after moving to the area with her husband. Having spent many years in mixed practice, Jen gained a qualification as a Veterinary Care Assistant, and is now training as a Veterinary Nurse through Glynllifon College.

You may speak to her over the phone or see her shadowing one of our qualified registered nurses (RVN's) during her training as she works on lots of aspects of the nursing course. Jen will be taking a break from her work and her training in the next few weeks as she prepares for the arrival of her first baby. We are going to miss her tons!

Here for our next post is our newest nursing team member Abby!

Abby joined the Aran nursing team in March this year. She passed her OSCEs (objective structured clinical examinations) in April, and joined the RCVS register this month!

As a student Abby enjoyed learning all things veterinary nursing including anatomy and physiology, welfare needs, infection control, emergency and critical care, nursing, theatre practice, anaesthesia and so much more.

Abby has two adorable cocker spaniels at home who love to cause mayhem🐕🐾

Today’s Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month post is about Jill! Many of you will know our longest serving nurse as she has been at Aran since March 2013!

Jill qualified as an RVN in 2003. She has been an important part of the nursing team, bringing an array of skills and knowledge with her. Jill is particularly skilled in x-ray imaging.

In her spare time she enjoys taking her children to after school activities and walking with her cockerpoo called Bramble.

Sadly Jill will be leaving the team at Aran at the end of the month to pursue a new challenge and she will be terribly missed by us all. We wish her all the luck in the world.

Next up in is Naomi! Naomi joined us at Aran just over a year ago.
👩🏻‍🔬She qualified as an RVN (Registered Veterinary Nurse) in 2015, in Cardiff, South Wales.
🩺Since then, she has gained experience in both small animal practices and specialist referal hospitals.
🌡️Naomi enjoys all aspects of being an RVN, including nutrition and weight clinics, anaesthetics and lab work. 🐕 Naomi holds a passion for the science behind canine behaviour and training and has 3 of her own dogs who she totally adores 🐕‍🦺

Chloe started studying at Coleg Glynllifon in 2016 and qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in the summer of 2019. Chloe enjoys caring and helping all small animals from when they are a young age to when they need that little extra help. She has a special interest in dentistry.

It is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month this month!

Aran Veterinary Clinic is very proud to employ a brilliant team of Registered Veterinary Nurses - Chloe, Ceri, Michelle, Naomi, Jill and our newly qualified nurse Abby 😊

Over the next few weeks we will be introducing you to these specially qualified professionals who help care for your pets here at Aran.

RVNs undertake high level training and examinations to become nurses. Here at Aran we also train Student Nurses- you may have met Jen our current SVN 😊

Once qualified, RVNs are expected to continue their learning and development in the same way our Veterinary Surgeons do. Just like our Vets, Receptionists and Animal Care Assistants, nurses make up an important part of our team here at Aran.
