And the boy continues to shine!! 🌟
A long drive down to Manchester today for the NAANTS Rally comp enter at both Level 1 and 2
Another excellent score (203pts and 4th place) in Level 1 out of 35 dogs and a high qualifying score in Level 2 (189 pts, would have been excellent if I’d not tripped over him doing a left 360) 🤣🫣

Scores are out of 200 plus out of 10 for the bonus exercise(which is only taken into account for placings)
175 is a qualifying score at level 1-3
190 is an excellent score at level 1-3

I’m officially rubbish at social media…. A lovely 2 hours spent with Kiera, Judd and Maverick learning and practising Rally-O but I was too engrossed and took no photos!!!

30/07/2024

Sorry for the break in tricks, I just couldnt face it..

Trick 17 - Retrieve

I would start with your dog on a longline so that they cant do a Velos and self-reward with the toy...
Reward for your dog retrieving back close to you, it doesnt need to be to hand to start off with. The reward can be treat or play with the toy whichever is more valuable.

Rally Obedience

I'm going to run 2 taster sessions at my home
Sat 17th Aug 11am-1pm (£5 per dog) and Sat 24th Aug 11am-1pm (£5 per dog) max 4 + me in a group
to book please message [email protected] with the date you would like to attend and it'll be first come first serve.

Dogs will need to be happy to be around other dogs as it will take too long to get dogs in and out of cars otherwise, but we can create space/barriers if we need to.

All learning in different ways and finding different challenges with the parkour obstacles.
Lovely to see the understanding of different verbals allowing us to be creative with multiple behaviours on the same obstacle.

Apologies - no pics of Echo I was too engrossed teaching

Trick 16 - Bow Under

See my "How to" and example video

This is meant to be the start of an independent bow exercise, and is the way I taught Velos however this is the first time Maverick is seeing this exercise.

Lure you dog under something low down, under head height (this bench is probably a little low, and reward. Slowly lure further under the obstacle until the front legs are on the floor, reward as long as the dog has not gone into a down - if the dog has you 've probably moved too quick.
Add in a verbal - I use "b" as bow is too close to down.

Trick 15 - Bang game / seesaw

See the "how to" and example videos

Allow the dog to make their own choice, rewarding for any interaction with the plank. Once they are happy putting paws on the plank, the dog can be walked across using your movement, reward for movement across the plank and jackpot for movement past the pivot point.
Start introducing a verbal command (i use C) and start rewarding for full completion of the obstacle.

04/07/2024

Trick 14 - Stand

See the "how to" and example videos

With a treat, lure the dog out of a sit or a down into a standing position. try to have a few treats in your hand so you can reward for stillness in the stand position.

02/07/2024

Trick 13 - Come / Recall

See the "how to" and example videos

Lots of different ways to teach this one, either with toys or treats but start with very little distance between you and the dog to start and slowly increase the distance (using either a stay or distractions)

27/06/2024

Trick 12 - Bar jump

See the "How to" and example video.

Please keep the bar on the floor for dogs under 12 months old and for others slowly increase over a long period.

Velos and Maverick are both used to jumping these heights and do so after warm up and on a regular basis. V jumps upto 60cm and M upto 40cm.

Teaching - this can be done either throwing in a toy or treat, by recalling over the bar and rewarding or by sending to a dead toy or treat.

25/06/2024

Trick 11 - Backup chute

See the "how to video" and the examples - you could use a fence line or a sofa or if you have a narrow hallway that would work too..

Put a little pressure in front of your dog - i.e. stand in their way and reward for any backward movement. reduce your pressure from your whole body to a hand - reward for any backward movement. Add in a hand cue and a verbal cue, reward.

Lets see those videos in the comments...

Trick 10 - Middle
See my "How to" and example videos
This might be the last video I took of Cadbury helping with the trick training! He was always wanting to be a part of everything..

With a treat in your hand, lure your dog round your leg (either side) and into the middle of your legs - reward!
Slowly reduce your hand movement and add in a verbal cue.

Lets see those middles in the comments below!

21/06/2024

I am taking a short break from posting trick videos - Cadbury, our founder dog and logo passed away this morning and we all need time to grieve... 🐾🌈

20/06/2024

Trick 9 - Balance

See my "How to" and example videos

Take your time getting your dogs used to being on the beam - reward for any interaction with the obstacle and practise the mount and dismount lots before adding movement across the plank.

Lets see those balances in the comments below!

17/06/2024

Trick 8 - Go Round (Barrel racing)

See the how to video and the examples from all the dogs.

Using an obstacle that your dog cannot step over, with a treat in your hand lure them around and reward - do this multiple times then hold your dog one side of the object and have your treat held out at the other side and reward for independent moving round the object.
Once the dog understands this you can add a command and start adding distance of either your and/or your dog.

14/06/2024

Trick 7 - hoop jump
This video shows a "how to" with Velos and examples with Mav & Velos.

Start with the bottom of the hoop on the ground and lure your dog through - throw a treat out so they move through the hoop. slowly build in a command e.g through or hoop

When your dog is happy going through on command, slowly raise the hoop off the floor - make sure this is very gradual and only once your dog has reached maturity (to save their joints)

Add your videos in the comments below.

Trick 6 - 2on2off

This video shows a "how to" with Cadbury on a small step and examples with Mav & Velos.

First lure your dog onto a raise object (it doesnt need to be high) reward. Then lure your dog forwards so their front feet come off the object (command as the feet move off) and reward.
Use a release command like ok or break to allow the dog to fully move off the raised object, and reward again.

This behaviour can be used for tricks and parkour.
