Dogstar Photo http://dogstarphoto.co.uk/ - Professional photographer based in London Dogstar uses the art of photography to capture the essence of Dog: Dogness distilled.

If you love dogs, like dogstar! Ian Morrison is a professional photographer specialising in dogs and people. He grew up on the Surrey Hampshire border surrounded by fantastic dogs, and has always loved them. He studied photography and journalism at Farnborough College of Technology in 1995, and loves shooting on digital and film. He's fascinated with light, and the ways it can be used to bring an

otherwise flat image to life. He's been taking photos all his life, but dogs are a subject he return to again and again because they’re all so different. Big, small, soft, wiry, there’s a reason dogs are humanity’s best friend - it’s because they’re so expressive. And that’s how they’ve survived so successfully - by expressing their love and loyalty, and by helping us go about our business. He works mostly in the Surrey and London areas, so please do get in touch if you’re interested in arranging a photo-shoot.

“Dog bites man” isn’t normally a headline that turns heads. However, when the dog belongs to the president of the United States and lives in the White House, and the man (or maybe woman—that detail has yet to be revealed) is a Secret Service agent, more attention is paid.

Very sad to hear about the passing of Hamish last Friday. He was one of the original dogstars, whom I shot in the third week of becoming a dog photographer. I'll remember his incredible personality forever. Run free wee Hamish. x

The 12 Pet Hazards of Christmas

The season of Good Tidings is often hazardous for our pets. Last Christmas 74% of vets in the UK saw at least one chocolate poisoning in dogs over the festive season. Raisins or sultana poisoning came second at 54%. (Figures from the BVA)

Christmas tree lights, ribbons, baubles and tinsel can prove irresistible to cats and dogs and can be dangerous if broken, chewed and swallowed. Any Christmas presents containing food or alcohol should be put out of reach, not under the tree. Beware of foil-wrapped chocolate tree decorations!

In particular beware of:
- Salt dough - the dough itself and the decorations (salt poisoning can be fatal)
- Xylitol-sweetened foods
- Nuts, especially Macadamia nuts & peanuts
- Grapes, dried fruit and mince pies
- Christmas pudding and Christmas fruit cake
- Liquorice
- Poinsettia, Lilies, Daffodils
- Holly & Mistletoe
- Alcohol
- Avocado
- Onions and garlic, including chives, shallots and sage & onion stuffing
- Mouldy left-overs (mycotoxins)

In all cases of poisoning/suspected poisoning, keep all wrappers/data sheets/information and bring them with you. We hope all your pets stay safe and well, but we are open every hour of every day throughout the festive period if you need us.
