We have so many birthdays now at Pinfold to celebrate that I can’t post them all. But I’d be sacked (even though I own the place) if I didn’t mention Amy’s. The leader of the pack, the captain of the ship, top dog, queen bee, jungle VIP. Happy birthday (though it was yesterday) Amy Knight 🎂🥳🎉

Today we had twenty-six 16-17 year olds attend a session on working in Veterinary Practice. The Sutton Trust organise a weeks course which is run by the Nottingham University Veterinary School as part of their widening participation scheme, encouraging people to apply to study Veterinary Medicine from more diverse backgrounds - maybe those who hadn’t considered it as a career option before.
I really enjoy delivering sesssions like these - as I’m passionate about the job I do and the profession I’m part of.
Katie helped me set up and run the session - and we were wondering about putting on a similar event, maybe one evening, or some time in the day in the school holidays for aspiring vets (aged 14-17 years) from East Leake and the surrounding areas.
Please comment below if you think this would be a good idea and know any youngsters that would like to come, and if there’s interest then we’ll see what we can do……. 👍🏻🩺🩼📚

Remember as of the 10th June 2024, cat microchipping is now compulsory. According to the Petlog website, owners found to have an microchipped cat can face a fine up to £500!
Microchipping is a simple step to ensure that your cat can be reunited with you, should something happen or your cat gets lost. Get booked in next week if you haven’t had your cat chipped already! 👍🏻

After a totally bonkers day where we finally ordered pizza in about 3pm as no one had managed to get lunch - it’s time to relax with a pint. It’s great to be greeted with the smiley face of one of our pets, ‘Harry’ and his owner, Samuel. Cheers, everyone! 🍺🍻Enjoy the weekend! 👍🏻

It will soon be East Leake Carnival time! Pinfold Vets will be judging the dog show and providing rosettes as usual, it’s great fun - but this year we could do with a few people to help us set up and run it.
If anyone can volunteer to help us out for a few hours on Saturday 22nd June then please let us know in the comments, or send a PM to the page. Our team would be very grateful for your help and in return you’ll get to meet and greet loads and loads of lovely doggies! Thank you! ❤️

There was plenty of cake and biscuits at Pinfold today. Danielle was presented with the (now traditional) first solo bitch spey rosette and star biscuits - she’s nailing her surgical skills 💪 - and George is making us feel really old as he celebrates his 24th birthday next week. But as he’ll be off on annual leave - he had his cake and presents today 🍰🍪
Nice work Danielle, and Happy Birthday George!

Today - three vets have done in excess of 20 consultations, 3 neutering operations, an orthopaedic repair, investigated and fixed a dog who couldnt close his mouth properly (this turned out to be due to a problem with his teeth), and looked after and come up with a diagnostic plan for four further medical cases.
Whilst we are doing all this - we often get asked questions by a receptionist, ‘Mrs. Smith says her dog is ‘such and such’, should she be worried?’, ‘Mr Jones’s dog has just eaten something he shouldn’t - do they need to come down?’.
If I am dealing with another pet, it’s quite feasible that I’m focused on other things, and they may not have my full attention. And I definitely don’t have enough information from that question to know the answer. So my advice remains the same, if they are concerned about their pet, they should bring them down.
Some pets come down and all is well, and the owners are reassured. Others like Lenny here, who ate half a container of blue, chewy gum sweets and was collapsed by the time he arrived and his blood glucose was so low it wouldn’t register on our machine. The label of the sweets said they contained xylitol - which if not treated immediately is lethal. Luckily, after making him sick and administering fluids and glucose Lenny stabilised, and after a night at the Out Of Hours service being monitored, he was fine.
People who phone us are worried about their pets and understandably looking for reassurance, but making flippant or quick decisions can land us in hot water, should your pet be sicker, or in more danger than you think, or we may know.
Please don’t be annoyed if we ask you to come down for your pet to be seen - and even more, please understand that we need to charge some professional time for assessing your pet, the situation, and offering our opinion, if you bring them. Thank you. 🙏🏼 ❤️

Much as I love looking after animals, something I get an amazing sense of pleasure and satisfaction from is seeing our trainee Nurses and recently qualified Vets develop. Here’s Danielle and Josephine scrubbed in together - helping and supporting each other. It literally makes my heart swell with pride ❤️ (and not forgetting Rachel monitoring the anaesthetic - our fully qualified Veterianry Nurses are absolutey vital to our team 👍🏻)
