Since you cannot check your rabbit’s teeth at home, it is important to look out for signs of dental disease. There are many things that you can look out for that might indicate that your rabbit has some sort of dental health issue. If you notice any of these signs, it is important that you bring your rabbit to your vet for an oral assessment as soon as possible. Stopping eating altogether is an emergency. Both indoor and outdoor rabbits require vaccinations to keep them safe from infectious disease. Young rabbits are particularly vulnerable to serious illnesses, so it’s important to get them vaccinated early. Rabbits can be vaccinated from five weeks old and will need
yearly booster vaccinations throughout their life to maintain immunity. Find out more about vaccinations for rabbits here:

Flystrike happens more often in warm weather, and in rabbits who have soiled fur (often due to poor diet, obesity or arthritis). Throughout the spring and summer rabbits must be checked twice daily and any soiled fur cleaned. If you find any sign of fly eggs or maggots you must arrange for your rabbit to see a vet as soon as possible. For more information about Flystrike: vetcollection.co.uk/health/conditions/flystrike

Unlike us, pets have no understanding that hot weather can be harmful. We control their environment, their access to water and their exercise, and they can’t speak up if they start feeling unwell. Heat stroke can rapidly progress and, even with veterinary treatment, is often fatal. Find out more about keeping your pet safe in hot weather here:

We have had a female cat brought in today. Sadly she is not chipped, so we are unable to reunite her. She has recently had kittens, it’s hard to tell exactly how long ago. Mum is receiving medical attention as she is very malnourished. We are very concerned about her kittens. She was found in Norry’s Drive/Fane Way area. If anyone has any information, or this is your cat, please call us in 01628 776699 - we really need to know if her kittens are safe.

Shelby's story - Grass seeds are most prevalent during Summer:
Shelby had just been on a walk in some long grass, when her owners noticed that she was shaking her head a lot and crying. She was brought straight down to the practice. Vet Jess examined Shelby, and noticed that there was a grass seed stuck, deep inside her ear. After giving Shelby a light sedation, Jess was able to remove the grass seed from her ear. Luckily the grass seed had not left any lasting damage to Shelby's ear. What a brave girl Shelby was 🥰
Grass seeds can be very painful so after walking in long grass, if you cannot avoid it, please check your dog's ears and feet as these are the most common places for grass seeds to get stuck. If you suspect your dog may have a grass seed stuck, please call us on 01628 776699 so that we can arrange for your dog to be examined.

Deafness is rising in the UK; by 2035, it is estimated that one in five British people (over 15 million) will experience hearing loss. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity that trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds like the smoke alarm, alarm clock and even a baby’s cry. Their burgundy coats also act as a visual reminder to the public when they are out and about that their partner is deaf. Donations raised through Pennies when you pay by card help support Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Just a small donation can make a big difference!

We had a stray white cat handed in today. Looks like the cat has been living rough for a while, but no major issues. Unfortunately the cat is not chipped, which is now a legal requirement, however, this is an easy fix. If you think the cat may be yours, please call us on 01628 776699 - proof of ownership will be required, and a chip will need to be placed before the cat can leave us.
