Our family welcomes any and all who would like to attend Chrissy’s funeral, which is at South Lincolnshire Crematorium on the morning of Thursday 4th January at 10am. We shall be meeting up afterwards at the Deeping Stage in Market Deeping. We would love you to join us in celebrating her life.

For those that will be attending the funeral, we ask for no flowers please. If people would like to give a donation, cash donations can be made on the day and will be going to the Animal Helpline in Wansford. Chrissy absolutely adored her animals and rescued one from them.

It is not compulsory to wear black on the day, please wear something that you feel comfortable in.

It is with great sadness to say that Paws in the Park will cease trading due to Chrissy’s passing on the 28th Nov. It is a great loss to her family and all the Paws buddies that have made the last few years very memorable. I am sure Chrissy will be waiting on the other end of the rainbow bridge to welcome one and all.

We are approaching that time of year now when awareness of the hazards of overheating dogs is vital .

Overheated animals need to be managed correctly. A vet visit is a must but YOU beginning the cooling process is an absolute necessity.

Never cover these hot animals, heat needs to escape. We CAN use cold water straight from the tap, usually best on the hairless areas including the feet.

Make sure they are able to pant freely, remove muzzles and ensure they have space and preferably a fan to deliver cool air.

This is part of a whole series of posts I shall be delivering on heat related illness over the coming days. There is more to learn…

Oral and dental health in dogs and cats, a course that can improve our pets welfare.

You can find it here 👉 https://www.animallovepetfirstaid.co.uk/dental-oral-health-for-dogs-cats

I see the teeth as the starting point to so many different diseases and problems seen in our dogs and cats today. Often by the time the breath smells bad, the periodontal disease is advanced.

Periodontitis is irreversible but you can prevent further damage. Gingivitis is reversible and treating at that stage can stop disease progressing and becoming irreversible.

My online video based, visual and narrated course will teach you so much! Oral and dental health in dogs and cats is an absolute must for all working with and owning dogs and cats.

CPD accredited, certificate posted on completion, taken at your own pace.

The feedback with this course has been amazing, thank you ❤️

If you are not sure what chocolate can do your pet, here are the symptoms! Obviously toxicity is dependent on the pets weight and amount they have ingested. Also the type of chocolate, the higher the coco the more worrying it is.

Yes it’s toxic to cats too, and in fact many animals…

Do not give dogs and cats carbohydrates 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I hear this said a lot! But fibre is a carbohydrate! It is an important one and can help the digestive tract hugely if added daily.

When dogs and cats have diarrhoea it’s useful to add fibre to help resolve it. If an animal is Ill or the diarrhoea is chronic then this needs investigation to find the cause.

Pumpkin often comes puréed in cans (do not use one with sugar in), butternut squash and kale can be steamed until softened then added to the food. There are other safe sources of fibre.

**Added for clarity! Yes other carbohydrates I.e. anything but fibre may well lead to other skin and gut issues in your dog. I am talking fibre NOT general carbs**

One important part of having a unneutered female is being aware of a pyometra. There are pros and cons associated with neutering any dog, but the risk of a pyometra is most certainly a con!

Why it occurs is nothing to do with you as a pet owner or pet professional. It is how the body works, hormones, white cells unable to enter the uterus, uterine thickening.

It is more likely in the middle to older aged, but I have seen them after the first season, so be vigilant as you need to act quickly for a successful outcome.

I talk more about pyometra's on my canine health and first-aid courses, AND of course I will cover it on my understanding the unneutered female webinar in June https://www.animallovepetfirstaid.co.uk/educational-webinars

Yes please to starting that grooming process early. Get used to brushing at home and understand the skin. My webinar with Jo Angus will help you with maintenance of the coat and skin. https://www.animallovepetfirstaid.co.uk/educational-webinars

It is so very important to start early, also the groomer/dog relationship will be a more united one if you introduce them as soon as possible.

Please do not leave these poor dogs to get matted and dislike something that is important for them for the rest of their lives. It may seem like its just hair, but that hair needs to be cared for to help skin health.
