Windmill Dressage - Livery & Stud

Windmill Dressage - Livery & Stud A small private livery yard and stud 10 minutes from Addington. This section is about us and what we do! A brief profile of each mare is outlined below.
(1)

We have organised our photos and albums to try and give an impression of the yard and our horses so please browse the photo albums. Each of our mares has her own album for herself and her progeny. We always have top quality youngstock - from foals to freshly backed horses for sale at sensible prices so if you are looking for your next prospect do get in touch! THE LIVERY YARD: we have excellent

facilities including 60 x 20 m arena with mirrors, covered horse walker, lunge pen, individual turnout, direct access to off-road hacking and top quality stabling. We pride ourselves on offering unsurpassed, personal and experienced care in a friendly and supportive environment - after all for most people this is their hobby, it needs to be fun! THE STUD: we have handpicked 5 broodmares from top proven continental bloodlines (mainly Hanoverian) and mainly sourced with the expert guidance of our friends Christian Heinrich and Darren Mattia. Until Autumn 2016 the breeding programme was based with Darren Mattia at Court Farm Stud in Herefordshire but we have now managed to secure some land and built the facilities to have the majority of our horses at home. Darren is still chief midwife and a great source of advice! We are aiming high in our breeding ambitions: we strive to produce exceptional dressage talents with excellent temperaments and rideability and with potential for the highest level. Having been lucky enough to own two Grand Prix Horses and a further 3 small tour horses we now dream of seeing a homebred rise to these levels. 'Mighty oaks from little acorns grow' and in a short period of time we have been proud to be awarded 4 Elite premiums at the BEF Futurity out of 5 entries (the 5th missed Elite by just 3/100!). THE MARES
BELLA VANUTA (Bella): by Benvenuto (Breitling W x Weltmeyer) x Don Schufro x Akzent I. Bella is our foundation mare and has produced 5 stunning foals for us to date and is one of the highest rated mares at the BEF Futurity based on the performance of her offspring. Following a fabulous filly foal by the exciting young stallion Santo Domingo (San Amour x Furst Heinrich x Royal Dance) in 2016,
Bella is back in foal to Santo Domingo for 2017. We have retained her 3 year old Fred Astaire by Fiderbach and 4 year old Frank Sinatra by Foundation who will be backed this year. ELEGANTE (Delia): a direct daughter of the legendary Donnerhall and from one of the most celebrated mare lines in Oldenburg - the Egitta line. This fabulously bred mare (who is also the sweetest person and a yard favourite) has already produced in 2017 an exceptional black c**t (born 6-3-17) by Hochadel and named Helsinki WD. Since I am looking to retain a filly from Delia's line, Helsinki will be sold in due course

WOLKE SIEBEN (Betty): By Wolkentanz x Wanderbursch II x Exponent. A wonderful, powerful mare with a fantastic hindleg, she has given us two outstanding c**t foals (both BEF Elite) to date. She comes from one of the oldest damlines (Stamm 809) in Hanover. Her stunning and very typey 2016 c**t by Floriscount has been retained. Betty is in foal again to Floriscount for 2017. BARBARELLA (Brenda): Another outstandingly well bred mare for top level performance: by Bertoli W the grand prix son of Breitling W (also grand prix and known as 'the Grand Prix producer'!) and from the famous 'Olympic' mareline of Herbert de Baey that produced multi Olympic medal winners: Rembrandt, Ahleric and Amon. In addition this line has produced numerous influential licensed stallions: the legendary Rubinstein (I and II), Royal Angelo I and I, Romancier, and the current 'hot' stallion Bordeaux amongst others. Bren is in foal to Dimaggio for 2017 - himself a World Champion and producer of many Grand Prix horses and is also damsire to double World Champion Farouche. STATE PREMIUM DOLCE NERA (Dolce): By Don Frederico x Weltmeyer x Sh**un XX. A former mare-show champion in Germany, this big black mare is striking in her looks and movement. We have retained her big moving 2016 c**t foal by Bordeaux and eagerly await her 2017 foal by San Amour.

I have been lucky enough to have a wonderful broodmare - Barbarella (Bren) - bred and sold to me by Christian Heinrich from this illustrious mare family. She has bred me some lovely foals and is the sweetest girl and a fantastic Mum 💕💕💕

The ever photogenic Vera on her Elementary debut at Bury on Friday. Great to see her sheets with a generous sprinkling of 8s for the best bits … and a few less brag-worthy marks as well of course! JTDressage&Training

Good girl Vera and great job Jayne JTDressage&Training. First 2 Ele’s today and a 70 and 71 even with some green mistakes. We only started teaching her rein back a week ago - she’ll do better but it wasn’t too bad considering! Some of these new tests are a bit weird tho …

We are occasionally lucky enough to have some training with Bert Rutten - just love his methods …

Meet Dutch trainer Bert Rutten, and share his philosophy:
“Without tension, everything has to be done without tension. He was without spurs, very light in the hands, and the horse must always have the will to go forward and downward. One of his theories – and I repeat it today with my students – was, when I bring my hands forward, the horse has to stay where he is, then I have self-carriage. No matter what level of training you are at, when I push, the horse must have the desire to get longer and forward, downward, the desire, by the weight of the contact.”

Anyone out there who thinks they ‘don’t do’ mares just doesn’t know what they are missing! I love Isabell’s lovesong to her fabulous mare 💕💕💕

What a debut by Becky and Bomb! No one deserves the break more than Becky and she really smashed it when the pressure was on. And so much more to come from this pair too!

Please, instead of sharing anything negative to do with our sport over the next couple weeks, share only the positvie things.
We are on the edge of losing equestrian all together at the Olympics so let’s show our support for our sport and make sure the world sees how great it is.

People make mistakes, we all have. Let’s come together as a horse community and support all the hard working athletes and horses that have made it to Paris and not let someone’s mistakes (not condoning them) over shadow the most amazing sport you will see!!

Good luck to everyone competing!!

Our sport needs positivity and time to heal and grow!!

As you know I love hearing about the horses I’ve bred!

Great to get sent this pic of Gibraltar WD: Governor x Dancier and his lovely owner Samantha Mason-Lambie having just triumphed in the Area Festival - First and Second in their classes with +70% scores.

I’ve been admiring the Governor progeny recently and good to know that an early breeding decision is paying dividends.

Good day at the Regionals yesterday:
Daniel Sherriff Dressage and my Fred int 1 Gold with a great score
And lovely Vera and Jayne doing a super test - just a bit hot hot hot in the canter in the Novice Gold but still got over 71% so hoping for a wildcard! Nationals approaching fast!

It was a lovely couple of days at Hartpury Festival of Dressage - catching up with lots of old friends and watching 4 of my ‘WD’ babies strut their stuff. Breeding horses for big shows was what I started out to do and it was very rewarding to see some super young horses I’ve bred all lucky enough to be teamed up with great riders! Also great credit to Jayne Turney who started 3 of them!

Fred Astaire WD - chestnut jointly owned by his lovely rider Daniel Sherriff Dressage - looking his best yet with so much more to come

Bermuda WD - dark bay - ridden by Jack Boarder Dressage and owned by Jill Graham: 5th in the gala final of the Elite Young PSG class - with only a handful of advanced classes under his belt and one of the youngest horses in the class - great job!

Samarkand WD - 3rd in the 7yo final. He’s a big talented horse and has been produced slowly by his super rider/co-owner Kate Cowell and given a lovely confidence giving ride. Congratulations to Trish Andrews co-owner - and lovely to see you! Exciting future ahead for them. He is full brother to the lovely Saskatoon - owned by Cecelia Stewart who was US Dressage Federation champion 5 yo, and also to Santiago WD - an amazing 4 yo that we are sooo excited about … but you’ll have to wait to see more of him!

Vienna WD - my own liver chestnut 5 yo - a spectator mishap compromised the second half of her test but she was just fabulous as always

Big thank you, too, to Lovely Lucy Rouse who came to help me - Hartpury is one of my favourite shows but also one of the most exhausting!!

I know I boff on a lot about Vera but she just makes me smile every day and it’s hard to believe what a pro she is becoming at only 5 yo - just born for the arena and the bigger the occasion the happier she is! She loved everything about Hartpury - her first stay away show - and despite the god awful weather for her test she showed her class. We were thrilled to get within a knats whisker of the top score for her trot tour amongst stellar competition.
I also love the pic of my wonderful, sympathetic rider Jayne Turney giving her a reassuring pat after some very inconsiderate spectators made her jump out of her skin!

5th place for ‘Fangio WD’ in a huge Elementary class at Somerford High Profile Show! 🥳🎉 A few mistakes in his first run through of the Championship test but super pleased with the improvement of the quality of work resulting in lots of 8’s on his score sheet 🔥 Thank you for the brilliant addition of the High Profile Show allowing more riders to gain experience in the atmosphere of such a big show 🙌🙌

Vera was such a pro yesterday at Onley - it’s like she feels she was born to do this (actually she was but it’s great that she’s read the script!).

Her first Novice tests - 2 wins and a 75.2% score and so much more maturity. Just love this fabulous mare 🤎

Great job as always Jayne Turney JTDressage&Training.

Gorgeous Stan aka Saskatoon WD - owned since a foal by Cecelia Stewart - was the 2023 US Dressage Federation Champion 5 yo and pictured here as a gorgeous foal!
Stan is by San Amour x Dolce Nera (Don Frederico). He has a number of full siblings:

Samarkand WD - owned and ridden by Kate Cowell - who has just qualified for the 7 yos

Santiago WD - who is still with us and recently backed. He is A-mazing! Fabulous temperament, and work ethic, superb gaits and drop dead gorgeous - he really is Mr Dreamy! He is 17.2 and still growing so we are taking him slowly.

And since I sold their Mum Dolce last year, in foal again to San Amour, there is now ano gorgeous black c**t foal with Richard Mackay Jnr and Jayne Dillion

What a wonderful mare Dolce is! She is also the dam of Bermuda WD - ridden by Jack Boarder Dressage at PSG and a gorgeous 2 yo tall black filly by Iron who is still in the field!
