Feeding straw can be very beneficial particularly for horses and ponies that are naturally good doers. Recent studies have shown that using straw as part of your horse's ration - up to 50% - does not increase the risk of gastric ulcers and provides a valuable source of low-calorie fibre.

Although straw has a low nutritional value, feeding it is still beneficial for gastric health. Straw increases chew time and therefore greater saliva production. Did you know McCash's Country Store is a Trade Partner with BASC Scotland We are delighted they have launched two pilot schemes in Scotland aimed at deer managers; however, they have also urged the Scottish Government to do more to incentivise the sector.

The announcement regarding the launch of two deer pilot schemes came from NatureScot. We have consistently pressed the government to introduce an incentivisation scheme, given the raft of regulations placed on the sector in the push for a reduction in deer numbers, and the fact that around 80 per cent of deer management in Scotland is carried out by the private sector at a net cost to deer managers.
