Young Roscoe retrieving over the river today and showing lovely composure for such a young dog… Remarkable composure for her handler too 😂😂 #gundog @carlymadgwick #trainhardwineasy #gundogtrainer #kronch #watertraining @kronch_uk
Big thank you to Österreichischer Retriever Club for inviting Tom Lowe and I to judge their Trausdorf Working Test 1st & 2nd June 2024 and marvellous hospitality over the whole weekend @roughcorner
Here’s 13 year old Charlie and his dog Roxy doing some tidy work today. Well done Charlie and to his mum Lorraine for keeping Roxy on the straight and narrow during term time!
Here’s Penny (7 months old) demonstrating why working cocker spaniels are often referred to as pocket rockets!
We were practising free running recalls, whereby we released the puppy from a sit (with a verbal command) to go and run around and then periodically recalled in. Always finishing the recall with a sit in front and eye contact before releasing the puppy again.
Well done Penny & Vicki, perhaps she’ll slow down one day 🤣🚀🚀🚀
On tour again this time in Mid Wales and Xaina’s first retrieve out of cover 😊. Love the way she works out how to pick it from the heather by its ‘body’ not tail @kronch_uk #puppygundog #futuregundog
Love that first moment they see a cardboard box😂 hours of fun (if it doesn’t rain!)

Monday’s Spaniel Classes: Denise and Otis working with Sue Gilbert to teach close control. Denise doesn’t intend to work Otis but is learning how teaching him to hunt close builds their relationship, closeness and trust off lead. Wonderful to watch the progress.

This little 19 month spaniel Otis had spent his whole life on a lead or long line until his owner started working with us. In just a couple of months they have turned their whole world around and have now built a wonderful working rapport which brings enormous pleasure and satisfaction, not to mention life changing mutual confidence . So proud of you both and our wonderful Sue Gilbert for her expert training and guidance. #spanieltraining #workingcocker #workingspanieltraining #spanielgundog

Another extraordinary concept not looking remotely out of place at Goodwoof…. #goodwoofdogs #heelworktraining #looseleadwalking #goodwoof #nowiveseenitall😄
Day two of Goodwoof in the gundog arena in this afternoon’s gundog display with Adrian & Caroline Slater, David Latham, Louise Munchaus Adsbol and Paul Delboy Wheeler.. lots of banter and a great demo of dog work

Arthur retrieves his first pheasant……well, a soft fluffy toy one 😉
Other than occasionally skidding a toy across the floor for Arthur to romp after, Belinda has done no retrieving with him as he is still such a young pup. She has however been encouraging him to potter around holding objects (toys, shoes, whatever he finds lying around 🙄😂) and occasionally gently taking them from him with a “thankyou” & a treat before giving them back. She has also been encouraging the concept of duration in a sit until told otherwise and the name Arthur being a release command when sending to his food bowl.
Here all those things came together in a first little baby marked retrieve…. steadiness in the sit, being released on name, running out after the toy, picking it up, happily bringing it back & releasing it. Belinda was so pleased with this, she did it again to see if it was a fluke! 🤣
Good boy Arthur ☺️
Arthur has just turned 14 weeks old. Most of his training to-date has been at home, so Belinda has started the process of generalising behaviours she has taught. Dogs are contextual learners, so we actively need to teach them that behaviours they have learnt in one location/context also apply elsewhere.
Here Belinda is making the most of a break between classes to try a send away to the food bowl, which is one of the things she has taught at home. Arthur rather enjoys this as he gets to run and munch some of his lunch! Little does he know that this “lining out” process will become a vital part of his future gundog training 😊🐶
Arthur is now 13 weeks old 🐶
Since the last video, Belinda has been continuing to work on the basics (sit, watch, stay, recall and heel) and has added in “down” to Arthur’s repertoire.
Here she links all the above commands together to make Arthur think and keep him on his toes. The transition from “down” to “sit” is a new concept, so Belinda was very pleased he managed it 💪 Heelwork in a tight spot was also a little tricky as there was lots of turning involved to stay within the frame of the video 😅
A quick little exercise to while away the time whilst waiting for the kettle to boil on a rainy bank holiday Monday.
Happy Easter everyone! 🐣🐣🐣
