It’s a busy few weeks for the team at the end of July. Last week we had Becky at Myerscough for the British Dressage Area Festivals gaining a top 10 placing 🥳 and this week is all about the showing with Squirrel down at the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead. Everyone keep their fingers crossed and send good luck to Jean and Bethany down at Hickstead in the morning 🤞🍀

Today we have had Annabelle from Windsor Equine Spinal Care to give some of the horses a treatment. As the horses are just as much an athlete as a footballer, runner, swimmer, etc... is, they need the same care and attention to make sure they can perform to their best.

The competition horses receive regular treatment as they are under a strict and, at times, intense training regime their body needs that extra bit of help.

The riding school horses also receive treatment. Over time we are going through them all and getting an initial treatment done. Then as we see them start to show any changes in behaviour, enthusiasm and willingness we know that is when they need to have a check up.

Today was Lady and Dexters turn. They both enjoyed their treatment, and as always they both looked like they were about to fall asleep. So that’s another bunch of happy horses today thanks to Annabelle and ending the day with a new lease of life

The team had a busy and successful day yesterday. Jean took her young ROR Arnside (Doug) to Aintree National Show with Bethany, as a four year old he behaved impeccably and got 1st in the ridden ROR qualifying for the championship at Hickstead next year and taking Reserve Champion

Next up was Becky, one of the instructors, taking Carrabawn Heather (Diva) to Crow Wood to do dressage. Getting 2x winning tests and her qualifying scores for Petplan Area Festivals in July

We can’t thank all the staff and volunteers who stay at home enough. Without them we wouldn’t be able to train and compete the horses. It’s a big team that keeps everything going and every member is just as important

Well! This week has certainly been challenging here at Becconsall! We’ve had all the water drinkers down and had to ship over 2000 litres of water per day to keep the over 54 horses hydrated! It’s been a challenge Becky Walsh feels like she’s been steam rollered, Jean as always has driven us forward, to all make sure that every horse in our care, has water, food, is warm and has a clean bed! To be fair, it’s been challenging, but with the support of our staff, volunteers, liveries and clients we’ve managed it! We have been totally enamoured by the love and help that everyone has given! From the clients that have braced the weather to still come for lessons, to the young volunteers who have still come along, and despite freezing, have done their best for the horses and clients..
A proud moment to be be part of Team Becconsall! ❤️

All the volunteers, here at Becconsall, decided to join in on the Lemieux ‘Matchy Matchy’ craze over the summer holidays. They have all saved up between them and bought all the school ponies & horses their own suede dressage saddle pad and the matching vogue head collar. They have finally got all the sets they want and here they all are 🌈

We have Cruz in Dijon, Sooty in Azure, Timmy in Ink Blue, Maddy in Watermelon, Freya in Papaya, Rabbit in Chilli, Lady in Sage, Tigger I’m Sienna, Roger in Hunter Green & Dexter in Peacock

Unfortunately we lost our own Queen of the yard, Spot, who did have the Bluebell, so sadly hasn’t been able to join in on the pictures 😢

It’s a sad day here at Becconsall, unfortunately we have had to say good bye to a long standing member of the riding school, Spot. Old age has finally caught up with her and she will be missed by a lot of people.

Tigger is enjoying a nice sloppy recovery mash after their lessons this week. Although it has been so hot we have used this as a chance to work on position, technical ability and even thrown in some obstacle courses for a bit of fun

With the arenas being out of action the last couple of days, with maintenance, it’s been great to be able to take some of the lessons in the field and enjoy the sun ☀️. As well as the the lessons the show horses and one of the ex race horses have been going for a hack round them with Becky, Beth & Steph 🐴🐎

We are well on with getting the indoor refurbished. All the walls powerwashed on Tuesday, the old surface being removed yesterday and the top up arriving today 👍

Harrison Ashton comes every week to help with training the show horses and Dressage horses. It was nice to see some of the clients on their Easter holidays having a chat with him about working in the equine industry. Tori Peter is a UKCC Level 3 BD Accredited Coach. Having trained with Gonçalo Carvalho and Joanna Jackson.
In this demo Tori will be demonstrating with her horses how we “Train the horses’ mind”.
Her previous demos have always sold out quickly and pleased everyone who attended.
