I have treated two of my patients today with aqua-hemoacupuncture. I like this technique because it uses the autologous horse’s blood, has not much risk and provides longer effects than the simple needles.

This is me, on a day like today, with my daughter 7 years ago. Today I’ve been to a lovely show jumpers yard, 30 min to Cambridge, to treat 9 horses with 5 hours driving in total, I’m keeping fit. 31 Celsius have made me feel at home 😂.

A horse that hates to travel, sometimes he may do so after hours of trying to get him into the truck. I have found a lot of pain in both sacroiliac joints and have treated him with chiropractic and acupuncture with a very good response. Is that the cause? If so, how much will it affect him psychologically? I am going to treat him again in 3 weeks and then they will try to make a trip to see how he behaves. I bet that is the cause, but will he forget the bad past experience? I am dying to know!! 🫤.

Horse in the photo is not the one with the problem.

An interesting case of a horse that did not stop licking itself and giving itself bites in the stifle area, turning around on itself in a somewhat obsessive way. I found that he had subluxated the femoral epicondyle. Adjusted and problem solved 😉

It was a pleasure to meet and work alongside Gabrielle Horricks-Webb, in Villaequus in Barcelona. She is an absolutely amazing massage therapist and also works with horses and riders with performance blocks. She works with the nervous system to clear patterns and blocks that may be affecting either the horse or the rider , or the rider/horse combination.
She is back in this country, good news for many horses and riders!! 😀

I just found these photos, one from more than 10 years ago doing electro acupuncture on polo horses in Spain on the beach and another from last winter here in the U.K. with less hair and much more knowledge. Time flies.

What does this gesture mean?

In my opinion, when a horse makes this gesture - crossing its neck in front of me, as if offering me that sensitive and vulnerable part and, very importantly, looking away from me at the same time, showing confidence - it is the greatest compliment it can give to me. It is much more than a simple "Thank you!": it is a "Thank you, I adore you, I love what you have done for me". I am lucky to receive this message every day and it is very comforting.

Smoke from more than 400 wildfires in eastern Canada has carried into the Northeastern United States, causing poor air quality and rising concerns among horse owners.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ranks air pollution and air quality on a scale of 0 to 500. Though the ranking system is geared toward people, the classifications also apply to horses. Particulate levels begin to pose dangers to horse health when they exceed 150, especially to horses with pre-existing health concerns. At this level owners should limit riding and exercise until the smoke clears and air quality improves. An AQI value above 300 is considered hazardous.

The negative effects of smoke inhalation are not always immediately apparent, and will be variable from horse to horse and the degree and type of smoke exposure. We encourage horse owners in affected areas to be diligent in monitoring the local air quality and to take extra caution with horses at higher risk of respiratory distress. Be sure to contact your veterinarian to evaluate horses showing any signs of respiratory inflammation (like coughing, respiratory distress, nasal discharge, fever).

To read more about how air quality can affect your horse’s respiratory health, please read this article courtesy of AAEP Educational Partner The Horse: https://thehorse.com/1110445/how-air-quality-impacts-horse-health/

🐴 Enriching your horse’s environment

🌿Stabling your horse for extended periods can lead to boredom and frustration, as Sophie learned when her horse Chuck had to undergo eight weeks of box rest. However, by using enrichment techniques Sophie was able to create a greater variety and choice to enhance Chuck’s physical and mental wellbeing.

💡Enrichment doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. From providing homemade toys to varying their diet and creating a comfortable living space, there are plenty of ways to get creative to help enrich their environment.

👉 If you're not sure where to start, check out our latest blog where we share some tried-and-tested ideas as recommended by Justine Harrison - Equine Behaviourist. To learn more visit: https://www.bhs.org.uk/horse-care-and-welfare/features/enriching-your-horse-s-environment/
