Littleborough clients - please be aware that footpath outside the front of the surgery has been dug up this morning, along with around the side of the surgery and the car park! You may need to allow extra time to get to/from the surgery and find somewhere else to park.
The repairs are nothing to do with the surgery therefore, unfortunately, we have no control over these disruptions.
If you require any further information or wish to reschedule your appointment to avoid this situation please contact the surgery on 01706 378105. Thank you

Good morning,

We have had reports of someone acting as a staff member trying to demand a payment for treatment over the phone. Calls from our team will never appear as different numbers to the ones displayed on our website/page or appear as no caller ID.

Please be vigilant regarding these cruel scams. If you are ever unsure whether a team member has contacted you, please contact us at either our Rochdale surgery on 01706 643617 or our Littleborough surgery on 01706 378105.

Thank you 🐾.

Book an appointment with one of our nurses if your cat needs microchipping before the new rules come in on 10th June.
Microchipping makes life a lot easier for us when we have a supposed "stray" brought into the surgery. We all know that cats like to roam but sometimes this can be misinterpreted as the cat being lost. If the cat is microchipped it can easily be reunited with it's owner (If the chip details are kept up to date)
If Beyonce loved her cat she would have sung "If you like it put a chip in it" πŸ˜‰

Attention cat owners! 🐱

From 10 June 2024 cats over 20 weeks old must be and registered on a compliant database πŸ“†

By microchipping their cats, owners can increase the likelihood that they will be reunited with their beloved pet in the event that they go missing.

Here we have Gino, who is the loveliest ragdoll kitten in for his health check, flea and worm treatment with vet May and nurse Eleanor 🐾
During his check, the team at Wendy Lanes could not locate one of his testicles. We suspect he has a condition called cryptorchidism, where one of his testicles did not descend into sc***um by the time he approaches puberty. Besides that finding, he is a very healthy, active and handsome kitty!

Some quick facts on cryptorchidismπŸ€“
1. It is genetic in cats so we do not recommend breeding as this trait can be passed on to future offspring.
2. Due to the risk of testicular cancer and torsion, we advise to castrate, also known as cryptorchidectomy.
3. The undescended or retained testicle can lie in the abdomen or the inguinum (groin) region.
4. Persian and ragdoll breeds have the highest incidence of cryptorchidism compared to other breeds!
5. It is more common to occur on the left side, but can be one-sided (unilateral) or affect both sides (bilateral).

If you have a kitten and notice they may be a cryptorchid, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us so that we can check them over :)

We are proud to announce that our Rochdale branch has achieved gold status for the ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic! By reducing stress for cats within practice this makes visits much easier for your cat and cat owners 🐾.

Our newest adaptation to the clinic is our cat only waiting area, please sit in this area if you are bringing your cat for an appointment. The purple blankets are available to cover your carriers so that your cat feels nice and secure.

The rest of reception seating is for all other species, if you have an anxious dog or small furry and would like somewhere quieter to sit or would like the vet/nurse to come out to the car please call our reception team on arrival and we can arrange this for you 😊🐱.

We've seen a lot of rumours about ourselves on Facebook recently, so that people have the true facts we thought that we would let everyone know our current business situation.
A couple of years ago we purchased an additional building on Mason Street in Heywood, which has been awaiting planning permission to convert the building from a car garage into a vet practice. Planning permission has been granted and we currently have building contractors in the property making the conversions required.
Phase 1 of the conversion will see the front half of the building being transformed into a "normal" vet practice. This Phase is currently underway and once we have a completion date for the builders we will make further announcements on our opening date.
Phase 2 will be further development in the back half of the building (whilst the vet practice is open) and see the installation of a hydrotherapy pool and rehabilitation treatment centre.
At the Heywood surgery we will be offering standard vet services including consultations for sick pets, preventative treatment such as vaccinations etc but also complimentary therapy such as acupuncture, laser therapy and once phase 2 is completed, hydrotherapy.
THE CURRENT SURGERIES AT BOTH ROCHDALE AND LITTLEBOROUGH WILL REMAIN OPEN AND WILL NOT CHANGE IN ANYWAY. Heywood has been purchased as an additional site and not a replacement for either of the existing ones.
The address of the new site is 9 Mason Street, Heywood OL10 4QQ. PLEASE NOTE THE HOUSE ATTACHED TO THE PROPERTY IS NOT THE NEW PRACTICE and is someone's home.
We are very lucky to have built up a fantastic team of qualified, capable, dedicated, and friendly staff and it is this same team who will work between the three sites, hence the reason why we have expanded the team over the last couple of years, to allow the expansion to happen with familiar faces at all sites.
Clients who are already registered with our surgeries will automatically be eligible to use the Heywood site when it opens. Once the building is closer to completion (of Phase 1) we will make another announcement with an opening date and how clients can register their pets.
We hope that this post has answered the rumours currently circulating!

Today we will be saying goodbye to a wonderful lady who graced our reception desks and has served our clients since 9th August 1993 😒
Gaynor worked at our Littleborough surgery in the 1990's and early 2000's before leaving us to work part time in a school and spend more time with her elderly parents. After she lost both of her parents she continued to work in the school but helped us out during school holidays.
In the last couple of years, after retiring from school, she continued to work in our surgery reception during times of staff holidays and sickness, and was a very much loved member of the team, bringing a smile and a laugh to the waiting room at every opportunity.
In order for the team to pay their respects to Gaynor, the Littleborough Surgery will be closed today between 12.30pm and 3.30pm and the Rochdale Surgery will not be offering appointments between these times, but the surgery will be open with minimal staff.
Gaynor has worked with a number of staff, past and present, over the last 30 years and every one of them has enjoyed her wonderful company, including the joyful and caring nature that she was renown for and the bonus of her love of baking and her regular donation of homemade cake, cheesecakes and brownies, which she wanted you to offer your genuine review/feedback for but god forbid if you gave a rating of less than 8/10 or told her it wasn't her best effort! πŸ™ˆπŸ™ŠπŸ˜‚
She will be sadly missed and we send our condolences to her beloved husband, Derek.
RIP Gaynor, our lovely colleague and friend πŸ’” xx

Everyone has seen the Weight Loss adverts and is thinking of New Year diets and fitness regimes, but Sparky started ahead of the crowd, and has done amazingly well, so far losing 11.5kgs 😲πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ˜
If your pet has one or a few too many inches or kg's and needs help or advice please ask to speak to one of our nurses who will be happy to help, like nurse Abby has done for Sparky along with Sparky's very devoted mum.
We think you'll all agree Sparky looks fabulous and a lot younger after the weight loss, so should be congratulated on his achievement and new healthier lifestyle πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
