Business Update.

To all my clients and your furbabies past and present.

Thank you to everyone past and present who has trusted me with their furbabies over the last 6.75 years at Pawsh Pooch (4years at Manham Hill). To those who have supported my business by referring me to family and friends over the years. For the positive energy you have brought to the salon. For appreciating my time and skill. For understanding that I am human, and working with animals, can sometimes result in errors and dodgy haircuts
To you all, I appreciate you more than you could imagine.
I have never classed my work as a job, it's always felt like a hobby that I've been lucky enough to get paid to do. Even those dogs who aren't so keen on being groomed.
Sadly, with much thought, I have decided to close the salon and stop grooming due to a variety of reasons that recently emerged.
I have spoken to the majority of you in person regards these reasons.
If any of you need assistance finding a new groomer, I have contact details for the local groomers in and around Scarborough who are accepting new clients in the New Year. Please pm me for details.

Again, Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you all, for being you. Please give your furbabies an extra hug from me.
Love and Best Wishes
Gillian.

It's Tick season. Pawsh Pooch has tick removing tools for sale. ยฃ2.50 for a pack of 2.

You may wish to try a natural repellent to prevent ticks is 50% white cider vinegar, 50% water in a spray bottle. Simply spray on the dog before a walk, avoiding the eyes and sensitive areas. Ticks do not like the smell.

Please note, Images below are gross.

With the weather getting hotter itโ€™s important to keep our pets safe. Any brachycephalic breeds (flat-faced) such as bulldogs and pugs are 14 times more likely to suffer from heat stroke. Therefore changing your routine can help save their lives. Keep cool, keep safe ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿถ

We can see you! ๐Ÿ‘€
We have recently admitted three tawnys for residency, each is blind in one eye or missing an eye and unable to hunt as a result.
They have been transferred from another rescue and after the completion of our long term care forms, transfer of records and vet history, we were more than happy to help.
Our new procedures / standards here for admitting animals from other rescue centres is any of the following:
1. For all to fill in our long term care forms and transfer complete records and vet history.
2. Be a member of the Wildlife Care Badge
3. Rspca approved centres
4. Vet transfers direct
5. Licensed, if needed, for certain species.

And of course we will always admit from members of the public directly when an animal has first been found.

If you are able to donate towards keeping our chest freezer well stocked with food for birds of prey, we'd be very grateful. We do understand that some of our supporters do not wish to donate online. Donations by cheque are welcome too and appreciated. Cheques need to be made payable to whitby wildlife sanctuary and our address is broomfields farm, Stainsacre Lane, Whitby, yo22 4nw.
Thank you all for your support ๐Ÿฆ‰

๐Ÿ•Winter Coat Care:โ„๏ธ

๐Ÿ• Along with winter, we have rain and snow. A few clients are asking to keep their dogs coats much longer during the cold, wet months, however, it is much better for your dog to maintain their coat at their regular length.

๐Ÿ• During the winter months, if your dog spends more of their days indoors with the heating on, and shorter walks due to the cold and wet weather conditions, and less daylight hours, the extra coat length, you feel your dog needs to keep warm, may not be necessary.

๐Ÿ• A longer coat, holds more water and can make your dog feel colder, and will take longer to dry, especially if there is matting. Moisture can also cause sores on their bellies, in between their toes and pads. Therefore it is advisable to take extra care of these areas.

๐Ÿ• A few tips to keep your dogs coat top condition, during the colder and wetter months.

๐Ÿ• Pat the coat dry rather than rubbing to avoid friction and damage to the coat, which can cause matting. A small knot when wet can tighten as it dries, extra hair can join the knot, creating mats.

๐Ÿ• If your dogs coat tends to mat/ tangle, brush them before you take them out for a walk in wet weather. Or on return, rinse the coat, pat dry, apply some leave in conditioner and brush whilst damp. This will stop a tangle turning into a mat and help keep the coat and skin healthy.

๐ŸพDon't forget to wash and dry their paws as debris/road grit/stones can stick to the hairs in-between the pads and causes mats which can make it uncomfortable for your dog to walk. ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ•If you are struggling to maintain your dogs coat at home and prefer the longer style, I offer a bath, brush and tidy service for in between your dogs full groom. Your dogs comfort and welfare is always my priority.
