This is Athos!

Athos is in last place in the marathon des cows and desperately needs to find friends to sponsor him from just €1 a month

Huge thanks to all who are already helping the animals, but I'm afraid we need to find a lot more people like you if we are to avoid closure

Please don't let this happen 😢. Links to help below

Athos and his 2 friends Porthos and Aramis were rescued from a farm up in north lincolnshire after they had been deemed as "poor doers" and therefore were not worth the farmers time and expense to continue to feed as they were not going to make the necessary weight to yield a decent profit at slaughter.

So we took Monty our transport van up to Market Raisen and fetched the 3 small boys home. They were indeed all thin and clearly something was wrong. Blood tests revealed that they all had BVD (Bovine Viral Diarrhea) which fortunately was treatable with antibotics.

Sadly it transpired that Aramis was a PI. That means Persistently Infected meaning that he caught the virus whilst developing in his mothers womb and his immune system became integrated with the virus rather than recognising it as a threat. PI animals don't suffer with the illness symptoms, BUT shed virus all the time meaning that in the industry they are culled, but we were able to keep Aramis separate from the other cows.

PI animals generally dont make it to 2 due to other factors, but Aramais lived until he was 4. Athos fully recovered and is in fantastic condition and would love to stay safe at the sanctuary with his best friend Porthos.

Rosie's story is bittersweet as her baby Rufus' misfortune in being born disabled, saved her life

Read about it at the link in the story of this post, also saved in highlights "cows"

Rosie would love you to adopt her as she is just on halfway to reaching her fundraiser target to help save her home, details at the same link 😁

This is Atomic Kitten who started to make more and more frequent visits to the farm site over the past year or so

He was very feral and you couldn't get near him, however over the months we have gradually got his confidence

He is not a official rescue and we didn't know where he came from or whether he was chipped

He comes and goes and we have been feeding him and he had improved his condition a lot - however he's been missing for a few days, but re-appeared looking very poorly

We caught him and he is now at the vet who have confirmed he is not chipped, but is quite poorly & so we can take responsibility and get him hopefully better and neutered

Any help towards his costs greatly appreciated

The incredibly handsome Rudolph!

Rudolph was just 4 weeks old when he arrived with his elderly mum Margot a few years ago

Margot had been used as a breeding machine all her life and was no longer 'fit for purpose" 😐 and she

We arranged to take her and her last baby in 2020 and Rudolph stayed by her side until she passed from old age in 2022.

Rudolph would love to hear from anyone looking to adopt a cow friend as he is only at 47% of his target fundraising in the marathon des cows

You can help him hit is target from just €1 a month

In recent tests, 10 out of 10 rescued race horses said they preferred to munch on haylage (and stay near the feed store in case they missed the chance to raid it) than to wander in 40 acres of grazing... 🤨🤨🤨

The Big Run Around is an annual event at the farm site which the horses and cows get very - and understandably - excited about!

Once Spring arrives and the fields are dry enough with a good head of grass, we let them into the home field which is adjacent to their Winter turnout yard - you can see the video of this a few posts down the wall

Once they have eaten down the grass in this field - which doesn't take that long as its only an 8 acre paddock - we open up the gates to the River field, which also gives them access to the West Field and the Middle Field - which in turn brings them back to the other side of the original Home Field - hence the "Big Run Around"!

Hope you like the video, presented by Percy Productions

We need 17% of the people who follow us on this page to spare £1 a month in order to carry on providing a home for all these rescued animals as we are still relying on our reserves as monthly donations are not covering the current costs :(

Without the support the animals need we will be forced to stop

Please don't let that happen - we have 500 rescues relying on us and you.

Huge thanks to all who are already helping - you are making and have made a massive difference to so many animals lives

Baby Barnaby is doing so well following all the treatments he had had to help straighten and strengthen his front legs.

If you follow on Patreon you may have seen him galloping for his milk yesterday 🥰

Barnaby has nearly reached his fundraiser target as part of his efforts in the marathon des cows whereby each of the 54 rescued cows is seeking to find people to adopt them to reach their £100 a month target

The idea being that if each could do this, it would bring in just over £5k a month which will be a big help towards closing the current monthly funding shortfall

Barnaby is at £85 a month already !

Can you help him reach the finish line? It would be 15 people doing £1 a month, or 3 doing a fiver

Please help him keep his forever home 🤗

Šuns out again! Thank goodness, time for an after dinner mud bath 😁

One of our 100 rescued piggies enjoying her day

Please help us to continue to care for them by helping with a small monthly subscription to help with all the feed costs, it's really crippling 😐

Details of how to help in the linktree in our bio and massive thanks to all who are already helping care for the rescues 😁

Despite his smaller stature, Roan on the left is the herd leader at the farm site.

I was just making a video when Roan came over to investigate what I was up to and then Hercules also came over, but Roan quickly put the much bigger horse on his place. No actual action took place but with his ears back and his posturing Hercules decided to back away 🤣

Roan will always protect the herd and his position within it. For example when they move to new pasture, it will be Roan who first scouts the perimeter to check for any dangers that might impact his herd

He is an Exmoor pony and retains nearly all of his wild instincts

Thank you to everyone who is helping us to keep going in this difficult environment. We still need a lot more people to sign up with a monthly subscription, from just £1, if we are to be able to carry on caring for the 500 rescues and meet the feed and maintenance costs

Need just 17% of our Facebook followers to spare a pound a month to dig us out of the hole we are on and enable us to continue. This is 24/7 for us and we will continue for as long as we can

This is Snorky - one of our eldest Highland residents and one of 17 of these magnificent creatures now living at the sanctuary

As regular readers will know, all the cows - all 54 of them & yes, even Baby Barnaby - are participating in the "Marathon des Cows" event with the aim of trying to find new friends to adopt them - (there is no need to take your chose Highland home when you adopt them so don't panic)

You can adopt from just £1 a month & it will go towards the feed bills and sanctuary running costs

Each Cowpetitor has to find £100 a month (or more!) in adoptions in order to finish the race

Snorky had finished and was in the finishers lounge (barn) when unfortunately one of his adopters cancelled taking him back below the £100 per month threshold & he was back out on the course

Thankfully a kind supporter stepped in to add an adoption and Snorky was back in the finishers lounge

Unfortunately, (again) another adopter has cancelled and Snorky is again back out on the course and looking for a new friend to help him over the line - and it's raining too :(

Will you help him?

Details at the link (click on the picture)

Only 10 of the 53 cows have finished the race, so there are many others than need your help too - you'll find them all at the same link (scroll to the bottom & see the forward & back buttons to scroll to the next Cowpetitor - the ticker tape at the top will tell you how close they are to the finish line

All the Cowpetitors need to finish the race if we are to stand a chance of saving their forever home

Please share, comment and share again !
