Today marks the end of an era. I'm very sad to be writing this but Walnut and Willow have both been put to sleep today. They were my last 2 remaining rats (a friend had loaned me 2 of her younger rats to keep my old ones company, 1 unfortunately died but 1 will be returning to Scotland in the next few days to join her old group). Many of you will know that my pet rats have been a big part of my life, particularly when I was alot more unwell. However, after 49 deaths in the last 6 years, it's time for me to take a break from keeping rats. I have so many amazing memories and still stand by the fact they're incredible pets. From having my own litter of 11 to bring up, to the amazingly close bonds I formed with them, to travelling many places to show them and win many trophies and rosettes, to making lots of new friends, I'll never forget the happy times they've brought me. Thank you to Walnut, Willow, Duckweed, Dylis, Ned, Daphne, Dandy, Lilac, Starlight, Tia, Bluebell, Blackberry, Maize, Pumpkin, Dewberry, Arya, Rosemary, Thistle, Orchid, Lavender, Rhubarb, Tigerlily, Bramble, Alice, Zinnia, Peony, Isabelle, Tinkerbell, Lupin, Lavender, Rose, Chip, Fuchsia, Pluto, Pete, Dahlia, Tulip, Poppy, Iris, Donald, Dale, Jasmine, Ivy, Boodles, Wilbur, Fern, Goofy, Violet, Micky ❤️❤️❤️🐀🐀🐀

Willow and Walnut are just so adorable 😍 they're very close to the end of their journey. They came just before lockdown and have been and continue to be the most special girls. They looked after the 4 sisters well who all passed away last year (Dandy, Daphne, Dylis, Ducky) and now they're being nursed by little baby shark ❤️🐀

Shortly after Ducky passed away in November, Willow and Walnut gained 2 new friends. These friends are called Sharky and Snapper. They've travelled from Scotland just to keep Willow and Walnut company during their last few months, then Sharky and Snapper will be going back to Scotland. They're around 1 years old and Willow and Walnut are coming up to 2 and a half. The newbies have really helped the oldies and given them a new lease of life. Doing it this way seemed better for Willow and Walnut rather than them going to my friend in Scotland to join a group of 9! It would have been too overwhelming for them. After my 2 pass, I will be having a break from keeping rats as I have alot going on now! They'll always be very special to me. Here they are entering the cage tonight after a thorough cage clean ❤️🐀

Sadly, Duckweed left us on Thursday. She was so close to 2 years, 11 months! Was always difficult getting good pics of her as she was never the most cuddly. Though she did show a more affectionate side in recent weeks. Special girl as they all are. Very sad as I only have Willow and Walnut now ❤️❤️🐀

RIP Dylis. Eventually it was the many growing tumours that decided it. She fought up until the very end and went on a high. She transitioned from zoomer in her youth to placid cuddler in her old age. A very loving, sweet lady who I will miss ❤️ now she's reunited with her partner in crime, Dandy 🐀❤️

Rat love ❤️ This is Walnut grooming Dylis. Walnut has started with Hind Leg Degeneration and Dylis has a number of big lumps but still very lively. She's 2 years 10 months so she's doing remarkably well but we know her days are numbered ❤️🐀

RIP Ned ❤️ It was a short 3.5 months but he had a great retirement home here with his girls. They'll all miss him ❤️🐀🐀🐀🐀❤️

And an extremely belated post to introduce you to the latest rescue, Ned!!! A neutered male who was very aggressive in his previous home. Joining a group of 6 girls really helped him. Not a single issue since he came and he's the most adorable lad. He's been here a few months now. Was told he was around 18 months when I picked him up. Unfortunately he's become very ill during the past couple of days, could be liver related so we're hoping he'll pull through and reacts well to his steroid injections/medication ❤️

It's been a while since I've posted so a few updates. My little angel Daphne passed on the 11th August. She fought for so long and so hard right to the very end. She just became too weak and defied the odds many times. Such a special girl. Here's a few of her last pics 💓🐀
