Aimee Rigg Eventing

Aimee Rigg Eventing I am a passionate young event rider, hoping to progress as far as I can on my 16.2 Warmblood Demo. Looking forward to the 2018 season.

I have been riding since I was 5 years old and began helping out at a riding school from the age of 7. I have recently finished High School and currently work a part-time job so that I can pursue my passion for horse riding before furthering my education in the future. The horses I have been trying to compete for the past few years have been extremely unfortunate and often suffered from freak inju

ries and illnesses. Therefore my goal for this year, which I am determined to achieve and hopefully surpass, is to compete at the British Eventing Novice level and then progress as far as I can. I have not developed as much as I had hoped for at this stage in my riding career - it has been a difficult journey so far. After my first pony, who was 13h, I then skipped a stage and took on a young 16h ex race horse, King, to retrain. I felt a connection with him and didn’t want to miss the opportunity to work with, and love for, such a bright horse. He had previously been brought onto the yard by my instructor, after seeing his potential I was desperate to take him on to retrain and start my eventing career. I had him for about a year when I did my first BE80 which, due to injuries, was his last. Much to my heartbreak, King started to go lame on all 4 legs and the vet said there was no option other than he be put to sleep. I took time away from riding as I needed severe foot surgery which left me on crutches for 12 weeks. Once I was back on my feet and given the all clear, I decided once again that I was ready to start eventing. After 8 months of recovery I began the search for a new event horse. I found this beautiful grey warmblood, Demo, who had already competed in a bit of eventing that seemed the perfect fit for me. I have currently done two BE90’s at the end of 2017 and looking forward to starting 2018 at BE100. I am very lucky as my family and riding instructor, Carly Adams have been extremely supportive and willing throughout my ups and downs and I know they are always very supportive.

So this week we had Richard maxwell come to the yard for bodywork and lessons. Richard is an equine behavouralist and is fantastic in all areas of horsemanship. Started of with Richards son William body-working Demo as he holds a lot of tension and was slightly stiff behind. Then a bit of clipper and plaiting desensitisation with Richard. Even sedated demo is near on impossible to clip and what we do get off him looks like it’s been done with blunt blades and blindfold..😂! Within about 10 minutes Richard had demo stood still with clippers all over him. Demo is also difficult to plait due to him being so tickly so with me stood on mounting block and Richard asking him to drop his head again within minutes I could plait his forelock with no issues. He was an amazing day with everyone going home beaming!!!

A wee update, sadly demo felt slightly unbalanced in the warm up for dressage so with the ground being the way it is we have decided to come home and save him for another day.

No pics today but a wee trip to Fife Hunt pony club show for a bit more practise on grass. We Did 2 dressage tests and 2 sj rounds 90 and 1m. Really pleased with him comments in dressage albeit a little tense and then just a knockdown in each sj round. Going to have a bit of a play round with different bits this week to see if we can get him happier in his mouth. Then it’s off to Eglinton BE on Saturday. :-))

Apologises for the delayed update!! Demo and myself had an amazing trip down to Floors Castle the other week where we stabled at Kelso Racecourse. Finishing on a dressage score of 29.5, an unlucky pole at the last fence and a great clear cross country. All to be topped off with being placed 7th in my section. A big thank you to Donna Clark and her Salt Therapy Treatment and Carly Lee Adams MMCP Equine Bodywork and Riding Coach and Riding Coach, my instructor for all her help! To top it off they were both amazing grooms too. Great venue, great weather and a fantastic day.

Demo has had a busy two weeks. Starting with an amazing day at the Pony Club one day event at Forgandenny. We finished on a good dressage test of 32, a great cross country and a slightly cheeky but good show jumping. Last week Demo and myself had another fantastic day out at Kirriemuir. Finishing with another good dressage test of 32.8, a very nice and relaxed show jumping round, sadly just clipped 2 poles, then a great cross country round to finish with. I also have to say a huge thank you to my instructor Carly Lee Adams MMCP Equine Bodywork and Riding Coach for all the help she has given me and to Libby Clark for being an amazing groom. Also a thank you to Ladybank commercial refurb ltd / PJM Services as I am so lucky to have them as my sponsor. I am now looking forward to a great weekend away at Floors.

Been a busy week. Had a fab flatwork session with Carly’s coach’s Sarah Jayne Bowers working on getting demo less tense through his neck and going more forward into his bridle. A very early session (thx Carly) this morning to get over a few jumps before Sunday. Test run through tm followed by a walk and then off to walk the course. :-))

Another fab flatwork session today, canter work tm and then dressage practice!! Fingers crossed for Sunday!!

Had a fantastic jumping lesson on demo last night with David Harland, lots to work on and then some torture from Carly this morning as she took away my stirrups. Getting lots of improvements in all phases, now we just need the weather to improve so we can actually get out! ☀️☀️☀️☀️

Myself and Demo have had a fantastic day. After having a brilliant cross country lesson at Lindores Equestrian from Carly. I am also very excited to say that Carly is now sponsoring us for 2018. I received some amazing equipment today along with regular Bodywork sessions. Thank you so much for the rug, dressage pad and show products. Can’t wait for the season to start.

Just over a week to go before our first outing to Dalkeith!!

06/04/2018

Firstly apologies for not being on this page recently. I’ve had a bit of a stressful time as Demo came in with a very swollen knee which resulted in a trip to Loch Leven Equine Practice to get scanned and X-rays, thankfully all was clear but he had to have a couple of weeks box rest and then a couple of weeks walk work. We then managed to get back on top of his fitness ready for Forgandenny but alas the weather took charge of that one!! Hopefully we will get to Lindores Equestrian for some XC training prior to Dalkeith providing the weather is kind. In the meantime we have been concentrating on his flatwork.

So after some hacking yesterday it was getting on with our jumping homework today. So a morning spent with Carly doing canter poles, changes, related distances and overs! Getting there!!

A busy few days!! A trip to Pippa Funnell for another lesson with lots of great tips for the season. I was very lucky that my sponsor Pauline of Ladybank commercial refurb ltd / PJM Services came among to watch and meet Pippa which was fantastic. And then today another jumping session with David Harland, it was a great lesson with Demo being awesome, we both just need to learn to trust each other and work as a team. Lots of homework which no doubt Carly already has set out for me!!!

Here’s a wee video of demo this evening.

So a busy morning today, Carly (my coach) was on a mission that I rode all 3 while she was getting them ready as a birthday treat...ended up with me being freezing and Carly roasting as she was running round like a headless chicken!!! So all three ridden, Demo was going really nicely, really light so between magnets, massage pad, bodywork and a lot of schooling it’s all going in the right direction! Then jumped Wario for Carly, haven’t ridden him for a couple of months and he felt much more forward!! Then was Iffleys turn, iffley is Donna and Simons ex racehorse who we are bringing back into work to be sold. Great morning !! Now off to get my nails done and get ready for celebrating turning 18!! 😀🍾🎉🎊

What a fantastic day having a lesson with the legendary Pippa Funnell. Demo was fab and a noticeable improvement in both flatwork and jumping!! Pippa instructions were to be more disciplined, and allow demo to be forward without pushing him!

Now can’t wait for the Eventing season to begin. 😀😀. Still lots to work on and we have another lesson with Pippa in 3 weeks time so I will be constantly thinking ‘allow!!’ 😂😂

Here’s our last jump of the course!!

Hacking in the snow!!

21/01/2018

Well it’s been a bit of a slow week as we have been snowed in! 😞. Gave me a chance to get things all organised and see what I need for the uncoming bathing season, bring on the scrubbing of stable stains!! Thankfully towards the end of the week we managed to get out and get hacking and schooling done! 😀.

A very jam packed morning today. Starting with a salt therapy session courtesy of Donna Clark (thank you). Then a quick jump lesson with Carly, before a clipping session and then off out to the field in his brand new premier equine rug....won’t be this clean for long!!

Vaccinations are all up to date and the dentist has been booked and awaiting a saddle check so we have every box ticked prior to the event season starting...not long now!!! 😀😀
