Surf lifeguards and water rescue dogs YOGI & CINDY BEARS play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of beachgoers and swimmers. They serve as the first line of defense, employing preventive measures to minimize the need for calling the Coast Guard Emergency service. Through their specialized training and skills, these dedicated professionals and their canine counterparts work tirelessly to create a safe aquatic environment.

The primary objective of surf lifeguards and water rescue dogs is to prevent accidents and emergencies from occurring in the first place. They achieve this through proactive surveillance and vigilant monitoring of beach conditions, constantly scanning the water for any signs of distress or potential hazards. By maintaining a keen eye on the ever-changing dynamics of the ocean, they can identify risks such as rip currents, powerful waves, or submerged obstacles that might pose a danger to swimmers.

In addition to vigilant monitoring, surf lifeguards and their canine partners often provide public education and awareness programs. They engage with beach visitors, imparting valuable knowledge about water safety, including the importance of swimming within designated areas and the hazards associated with swimming during adverse weather conditions. These educational efforts are aimed at empowering beachgoers to make informed decisions and take necessary precautions, reducing the likelihood of emergencies.

Surf lifeguards and water rescue dogs are also equipped with a diverse range of rescue techniques and equipment to swiftly respond to potential emergencies. They are trained in various water rescue methods, including swimming, paddling, and deploying rescue buoys or tubes. The highly trained water rescue dogs possess exceptional swimming skills and can cover large areas quickly, allowing them to reach distressed swimmers in a fraction of the time it would take a human lifeguard. Their acute senses enable them to detect and locate individuals in need of assistance even in challenging conditions.

By being present on the beach and actively patrolling the shoreline, surf lifeguards and water rescue dogs provide a visible deterrent against unsafe behaviors and encourage compliance with water safety guidelines. Their proactive presence helps prevent reckless activities such as swimming in hazardous areas or venturing too far from the shore without proper knowledge or experience.

It is important to recognize and appreciate the invaluable role played by surf lifeguards and water rescue dogs as the first line of safety and prevention. Their unwavering dedication, training, and expertise contribute significantly to minimizing the need for emergency interventions from the Coast Guard. By maintaining constant vigilance, educating the public, and swiftly responding to potential risks, they enhance the safety and enjoyment of beachgoers, ensuring that everyone can have a memorable and secure experience by the water's edge.

Newfoundland dog helps save 160 lives....

The rescue of the crew and passengers of The Despatch, a brig carrying Irish immigrants from Londonderry to Quebec, remains a remarkable fact of courage and heroism.

The events unfolded off the coast of Isle aux Morts, Newfoundland. At the center of this incredible story were a young Canadian girl named Ann Harvey, her 12-year-old brother, her father George, and a local Newfoundland dog known as Hairy Man.

The Despatch, heavily laden with Irish immigrants seeking a new life in Canada, encountered treacherous weather conditions and was shipwrecked off the coast of Newfoundland. The vessel was battered by fierce winds and relentless waves, leaving its crew and passengers stranded and in grave danger.

News of the shipwreck reached the Harvey family, who resided in Isle aux Morts. Ann Harvey, a mere 17 years old at the time, possessed remarkable courage and a deep sense of compassion. Alongside her younger brother and her father, she embarked on a daring rescue mission. Despite the perilous conditions, they set out in their small fishing boat, determined to save as many lives as possible.

Accompanying them was Hairy Man, a loyal Newfoundland dog known for his strength and swimming abilities. Hairy Man played a vital role in the rescue efforts, fearlessly braving the frigid waters to aid the stranded passengers and crew.

For days on end, the Harvey family tirelessly navigated through treacherous currents and towering waves, risking their own lives to reach the survivors. They skillfully maneuvered their fishing boat, pulling men, women, and children from the icy waters and offering them refuge on board.

Word of their valiant efforts spread quickly, and soon the local community rallied together to assist in the rescue operation. The inhabitants of Isle aux Morts displayed remarkable unity and compassion, extending a helping hand to those in need.

Ann Harvey's heroic actions and unwavering determination saved more than 160 lives from the doomed Despatch. Her selflessness and bravery earned her a place in history as a symbol of hope and resilience.

The rescue of the crew and passengers of The Despatch stands as a testament to the power of the Newfoundland Dog and how much of an assets they play as a vital part of saving lives at sea.

Sunday Quote;

Can't take him to the beach for a walk because he bothers you and messes with the holiday..

However, I can take him to the rubble to find you after an earthquake, in the woods after you get lost in the mountains and you didn't have neither map nor gps; under snow because you made a detour not allowed off track; in the water because, despite the red flag, you have entered the sea and your life is in danger!
And finally ....
He's just a dog, but he will find you.

And he will save you!!"

Dogs are family

YOGI & CINDY BEARS are extraordinary dogs that serve a dual purpose: providing assistance and performing water rescues. Let’s delve into their remarkable roles:

Yogi: Hailing from Poland, Yogi has become a beloved figure in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
He is not only a therapy dog but also a skilled water rescue dog. Yogi’s daily activities offer an alternative form of therapy, complementing traditional medications.
His presence brings joy and healing to those he interacts with.

Cindy: Originally from Belarus, Cindy is another member of this dynamic duo. Like Yogi, she excels in both therapy work and water rescue.
Her compassionate nature and gentle demeanor make her a valuable asset in various settings. Whether providing emotional support or aiding in water emergencies, Cindy is always ready to lend a paw.

These incredible dogs demonstrate the power of the human-animal bond, showing that sometimes a wagging tail and a wet nose can make all the difference. 🐾❤️

Doing what we do best at YOGI & CINDY BEARS Dog Grooming working with the big dogs.

Turning scruffy "RUFUS" the Pyrenean Mountain Dog into a handsom big boy.

It's easy to work with small dogs and just clipper them and get them out the door in 1hr.

But when your dealing with Giant Breed dogs over 70kg that might have health problems and alot of matting its a totaly different ball game.

It can sometimes take over 3 hrs of grooming and most groomers dont have the set up to take the weight off giant breed dogs to eleviate the stress off the dog. That's where our set up here and experience comes into play.

No need for clippers or shaving out bad matting, just top quality products and skill in taking matting out and finishing off scissor work.

Today we had this chap "Rocco" into YOGI & CINDY BEARS Dog Grooming.

Rocco is an 11 year old Romanian rescue Mioritic Sheep dog.

This wee chap has been in the wars and needed the right tlc.

He has had bad grooming experiences in the past, with groomers hacking into his beautiful coat.

Rocco had an operation a few weeks ago, to have a soft cell sarcoma removed from his chest. He has a substantial scar that is still healing.

He also has osteoarthritis in his spine and back along with a missing tail and only one eye.

We were so glad to be able to offer our help with our advanced setup and experience at Yogi & Cindy Bears.
