While the world sleeps......we are keeping on top of our goals and fitness.
Q: Do you set goals?
Q: How often do you ride your horse?
Q: How long do you ride for?
It's been a stormy start to autumn here in Somerset and my motto is some minutes in the saddle are better than no minutes in the saddle when it comes to fitness.
What do I mean? Okay so for us
we go out 5 days a week
with 2 days off ideally not together
Block of 3 days work 1 day off
I tend to hack whenever I can most days it's
15 minutes before work
If it's a weekend she gets a longer ride 40 minutes to and hour. Which she loves.
So why do the short rides? Here's why, she's arthritic so having her walk out with busts of trot is like HiT training and it keeps everything nice and supple ready for the longer rides.
This time of year she can be prone to slips and stiffness if she's in for too long. By doing something every day it keeps her mind active too. Less play in the field.
I do a variety of poles long reining and in-hand schooling when we can't ride or if I am short of time.
In a nutshell, all these little minutes add up to the same as riding once a week for other horses. It just keeps her muscles and joints supple.
I log it all in my copy of @thehorseorganiser and tweak it where necessary, I also use last year's planner to support me this year with things that worked to avoid things that didn't.
Right, that's me off to the yard for another rise before work. Stony track today 🙌✨🐴, will share tomorrow.
Happy Thursday!

It's finally happened!🙌 four days ago I took my fencing down ready for our rhynes to be dredged something we do in Somerset.
Coupling in this and riding before work full time has been a bit full on, plus a change of routine, mucking out etc.
To keep her ticking over I was doing short rides before work super local and where I can watch the lane, to not get caught out when they arrive and get stuck.
He got delayed bless him and there's always that nail-biting moment when the ground won't take it.
Daisy has been on the hard standing during the day, escape artists and 10ft rhynes will not mix well😜
So on our trotting lane, who should we bump into but the dredging team so about turn to get back and open my gate.
One down one more to go......hedges next week🤞 for the same dry weather and good ground. I find this time of year quite stressful, I rest most of the grazing for winter it is also the area he drives over so once he's done I know what I have for winter. 😱 we will cope with whatever happens but it's a relief once it's all done and the fencing is back up.
Daisy will be pleased as she will be hopefully having the day out today! 🤞
Happy Saturday you lovely lot!

As promised our lovely long Saturday ride down our 2nd bridleway🫣, it was really lovely and just the right amount of things going on.
One of our lovely neighbours is producing a lovely broodmare and on this day we got to see her in action. Whoa, so much potential and very proud of Daisy just getting on with it, whilst they practised her test and we chatted.
Looking forward to hearing how she got on.
Daisy decided because the sugar reeds were literally offering themselves to her she should indulge 😜! Managed to turn the Titanic🐴 🫣on the narrow path and mooched home collecting rose hips for Missus!
Ended up going back up the lane whilst one of our liveries brought her horses in, for another view.
Had a mini trot to see how she was feeling. She's not too bad, I think I said before I will look at getting her hock injections sooner rather than later as she's starting to overuse her forehand again.
All in all a lovely Saturday ride. Rain has kept us out of the saddle these past couple of days, so fingers crossed for some drier days ahead.🤞🙏
Hope you enjoyed the hack as much as we did!.✨🐴❤️
Happy Tuesday you lovely lot!

Faith everything is always working out for us!
The little things that make me happy and this mantra of when things don’t go to plan asking myself this question!
Where is the lesson?
Happy Monday you lovely lot!

We are on a go slow...mainly for me this time, my back was still not there and it was raining so we walked instead of riding.
It was lovely.
i cannot believe after 10 years of use this rug is still this good at keeping her covered in showery weather! These two are our all-time favourites:
1. Aussie Allrounder by @horseware
2. Shire's tempest 50g @shires_equestrian
Both look after her, keep her warm and her back muscles dry.
Talking of back muscles as mine were not up for a drizzley ride so we walked. I kept the pace slow mainly to keep her barefoot toes used to various surfaces. One of the downsides for Daisy when she only goes to and from her field, for an extended period of time she get a bit sensitive to stones. Keeping her topped up when we don't ride, helps combat this as we don't use hoof boots.
Looking forward to some better weather soon.
Happy Friday you lovely lot!

Our last long hack for a bit....come with us for a 40-minute hack in 2.5 minutes on Instagram!
As you know I live my journal @thehorseorganiser and I keep detailed notes on our year and how we handle things throughout the year.
Daisy’s jabs and her reactions to them are definitely up there. This year I have done them earlier and split them from her dental to reduce the stress to the area being injected, to see if we get a different outcome. I will keep you posted.
She has been having an allergic reaction to her annual jabs so I have planned for this to be her last long ride til she recovers from any reaction.
It was a lovely mooch out on Thursday am, the vet was due in the afternoon and I had taken the day off work.
Blessed with a lovely ride....helping to distract me from the impending appt. I am always a bit nervous when she has it. Keeping everything crossed for no reaction.
Has your horse ever reacted to their jab?
🤞😭✨🐴❤️M###

It never gets old for me, this moment when life moves on again after a spate of rehab.
There's always that moment, is this it, did I just have my last ride, if I am honest it's why I film so much, it's always there.
So I gratefully got behind those gorgeous ears and went for a stroll with my beautiful girl.
She had such a treat as I was only going to the cow gate, but she loves Texas and we were having a lovely stroll nattering it was the top of the road before I knew it.
Some protestations from Daisy leaving him😂 obsessed she is! 🫣✨🐴 He is gorgeous so I can't blame her, ❤️still got going again😂.
Had a very peaceful Saturday morning poorly before the rain moved in!
How was your weekend? Did you get a chance to ride before the rain or did you not get any rain? I saw lots of you with frillies at events, congratulations!
Whatever you got up to, onboard or by their side cherish every moment!
Keep going, you got this!💪❤️
Happy Monday you lovely lot!🙏

We did it!!!! Thank you, thank you 2600 followers what a milestone and what an amazing community!🙌🥂🍾❤️
Our goal for June has been smashed!🎉
We have some new followers so I thought I'd say Hi and introduce myself I am Emma and this is Daisy! I created this journal @thehorseorganiser to help us navigate her arthritis, operations and multiple rehabs later.
I am overjoyed its gone on to help so many others equestrians manage their own life and equestrian year's goals and facing some of the same issues.
The things I have witnessed this past week have been amazing, nothing short of a miracle and so uplifting!✨🐴🙌
It has been so lovely to see people who only know each other online coming together to help others. ❤️ Shows how little things can all add up to something so powerful and supportive.
From our corner of the world, we wanted to say a big thank you for the continued support and this milestone. I love watching this business grow, can't wait to see where these next 6 months take us all together. 2025 @thehorseorganiser planner here we come!
For anyone that needs it right now keep going, you got this!💪❤️
Much love

❤️✨🐴Hero horse✨🐴❤️
With the sound on you can tell I realised something was different straight away - this was not normal behaviour for my horse. She had dug her bed up, and as soon as she saw me rather than whinnied, she shook her head.😱
I then took her out, and her neighbour was on box rest as she was showing signs of laminates.
That day, she was clicking and Daisy was trying to tell something was wrong. Not your usual either, just very uncomfortable, couldn't and wouldn't settle so I called the owner. Needless to say, she went to hospital. We are hoping she will be home soon🤞💔.
So pretty proud of this one and our partnership right now. ✨🐴❤️

Anyone else feeling like this year is flying by? Just had so much fun today, Patrick sunshine, hacking my best girl and planning with the next quarter with my @thehorseorganiser can't believe it's nearly June! What more can an equestrian ask for!
How was your weekend?

Trust - a very underrated thing nower days with social media and fake news, but to an equestrian and their horse - the world! ✨🐴❤️
How do you build trust with your horse?
For us, we use tarpaulin, it's not a massive piece I saved that for when she was a baby! No we just check in with a tiny bit.
If she follows me over = 100% trust - I ask a question she's listens
Uncomfortable going over it/hesitation, but eventually goes over = work to do.
Flat no - be mindful of your partnership in difficult situations there's work to do.
Make sure you spend some time on the ground, working with scary things be consistent with your words and then transfer the same commands to the saddle.
Repetition and checking in with each other regularly especially if you are tackling new adventures.
Don't wait for a solo hack for it all to unfold and you realise there's work to do, especially if you always ride with others.
Food for thought whilst the rain sets back in.
Keep going you got this!💪❤️

Today is the day....its finally arrived and I for one am so pleased to say we made it, the winter season is finally over and welcome spring in properly with days off all round and a cheeky lie in for me tomorrow! 🙌✨🐴
I know equestrian life is about the seasons, which I love, however this last one seemed to just be endless! We will probably be in and out for a while yet but with a week of decent weather 🤞 it will all dry up nicely.
Happy Saturday you lovely lot, thanks for all the support it's been emotional one, super grateful for you all and the @thehorseorganiser tribe!
