Indie has been found safe and well. Will update shortly ❤️

7/6/24 sadly Indy is still missing. Plans are in place for today. Please keep Indy and her family in your thoughts and call if you see her. Thankyou x

6/6/24 Missing 18 week old cocker.
Indy is missing on the kiwi side of the Bulford to Tidworth range road (Tidworth road)
She has been missing since 9.40am.
It is strongly believed she is in hiding. She is not likely to have gone too far. Plans have been put In place for this evening.

It’s very important for Indy that the area is not flooded with well meaning searchers. We’d like to give her the opportunity to come out of hiding freely otherwise she might be pushed further away.

Given her age there is a chance we will call upon the general public tomorrow however and for now we’d like to keep the area as calm and as quiet as we can.

If you see Indy please call the number below or of course call/message us.

Please allow her to move freely. If safe to do so please allow her the time to come to you. Be patient. Throw out little treats if you have them. Crouch or Sit low to the ground. Avoid eye contact. Please do not call or chase her. She will run and go back to ground.

Thankyou

Nutrition goes hand in hand with behaviour!

When was the last time you looked at the ingredients of your dog food? Do you actually know what goes into it? Personally I can't tell you what is what in some foods. We check the ingredients of the dog food with all our clients.

Nutrition and behaviour are proven to have a link. Would you feed your child skittles and mcdonalds as their main diet and expect them to be bright and healthy? The same applies to your dog and I would ask you, if you don't know what an ingredient is in your dogs food then why are you feeding it to your dog?

Check the ingredients and watch out for words like derivative, meal, any wheat and items you don't understand. Poor diet feeds into poor health and poor behaviour.

On that note I have spent today making some superfood cubes for my dogs. These cubes have helped a great deal with one of my dogs in particular who is suffering with joint discomfort.

Want to know how to make your own? Pop down to Grovely pets in Tidworth. They stock ready made paste as well as the ingredients to make your own. The staff are trained in nutrition far in excess of what a lot of vets are and can advise you on numerous holistic approaches to managing your dogs health as they age. You can also book in with their specialist for the full nutrition review.

In our cubes we have organic turmeric for its anti inflammatory properties
Cracked black pepper and cold pressed coconut oil to help the active ingredients in the turmeric absorb into the body.
Pumpkin with prebiotic for gut health
Bone broth to boost collagen for a healthy gut, muscles, tissues to name a few positives!

We've frozen the cube in the perfect mould and sprinkled the cubes with dorwest herbs for more health benefits and to stop the cubes sticking together. Or you can pop the mix in the fridge for up to two weeks.

We met this top team today. Following a nasty attack sometime ago, these two have become very vocal and defensive in the presence of other dogs, which in turn, makes the owner anxious and stressed on walks as they constantly look out for other dogs. This all adds up to a big bundle of stress.

We spoke about hormonal and chemical changes that take place in the dog and the hooman in the presence of other dogs. We also spoke of trigger stacking and the impact on the central nervous system.

We then took a stroll with the most anxious of the two dogs and learned how to take advantage of the presence of other dogs as a training opportunity rather than be something to dread. The accompanied walk also gave the owner some confidence too. We have agreed another visit in a couple of weeks to see how things are going.

We have a particular interest in canine reactivity so we can't wait to see how this team get on in the future.

☆☆☆ NEW WORKSHOP! ☆☆☆

Have you got a reactive dog? Do you dream of walking your dog without having to constantly scan the environment for other dogs or people? Do you find walking your dog stressful? Do you feel scared when another dog approachs you, out of control and off a lead?

We are looking for expressions of interest in our 'living with a reactive dog' workshop. The workshop will run over three days.

Day 1: Humans only! Learn about the theory around dog reactivity. Find out what is driving their behaviour. Find out how your reaction to the environment impacts yours dogs behaviour. Learn about the science behind the scenes - but in lay persons speak!

Day 2: Let's get at least some dogs involved in this! Learn how to get your dogs attention and keep it on you! This part involves our dogs as demonstration dogs. We will show you how to keep your dogs attention and let you have a go too! Learn how to shape desirable behaviour! Take home the skills and start practising!

Day 3: It's time for your dogs to join you in class! We will help you and your dog work as a team. We will introduce your dog to other dogs! (Or anything else that makes them react). Don't panic! We are there all the way through.

Post course: You'll be given access to an online support group where we will offer ongoing advice. Hear success stories from your peers and vent your frustrations and get support from other handlers who understand. Maybe even arrange your own meet ups to continue training and to walk in the company of those who just 'get it'

Comment below or drop us a message if you are interested. We already have a wait list, if the list is big enough then we will roll out some dates.

Great fun today with this lovely boy. This was an assessment session. We discussed the owners wish list for their dog. The basics are solidly in place for this one but now it's time to move things on. We wrote a comprehensive post assessment report, recording our discussions and recommedations. We will leave this now with the owner to decide which way they want to go. Hopefully we will see good things from this lovely lad soon.

Don't underestimate the importance of good oral health for your pups. Most insurance doesn't cover teeth cleaning and your vet will likely have to sedate your dog for a scale and polish. This can be a stressful experience for your dog and can run in hundreds of pounds. Contact Sarah at Happy Barks And Bubbles Dog Grooming for an appointment.

Great fun with this young boy today. Lots of work around loose lead walking, keeping his attention and dealing with things in his environment which were making him nervous. Can't wait to see the progress he's made in a week.

We met some fabulous puppies and owners in Puppy class today. We had a great location at Coco's Canine Crèche, we had great company with Sarah from Happy Barks And Bubbles Dog Grooming, who was working with grooming clients. Great chance for pups to get used to different sounds. Our last young client couldn't make it to puppy class first thing as he was out on adventures but joined us for some one to one.

It is Raw Feeding week this week so we are going to take this opportunity to tell you about all things Raw.

There are many benefits of feeding Raw including:
🐾 Healthier skin
🐾 shiny coat
🐾 cleaner teeth
🐾 smaller, firmer stools and less of them
🐾 Good for allergies and intolerances
🐾 Lots of protein choices to choose from
🐾 Can swap between brands easily to provide variety for fussy eaters.
🐾 Suitable for all ages

There are many different ways of feeding raw including DIY, complete, and 80:10:10 as well as raw treats and chunks.

Here at Grovely pets we stock a variety of Raw brands which we will introduce you too over the course of this week. 🐶🐾🐈

Myth Buster time!
"My dog always wants to be the dominant one or the pack leader, sometimes I have to do things like roll him onto his back to remind him who is boss. I also take away food and will stare at my dog until he breaks eye contact with me first. It's also important that he goes through doors behind me"

Truth: this is utter rubbish! Any trainer or behaviourist who advises you that this is the case needs to be swerved and quickly!

This theory has been banded around since the 40's and is based on research carried out by scientists, of an artificial wolf group. Before we go further I must point out that the research has since been debunked by the very scientists who pushed this harmful theory around.

Firstly the study was conducted of a group who were not related. They were observed in a smaller environment than nature would prefer. Its also a study of wolves with no real consideration that actually, although dogs are closely related, they are our domestic pets, not an artificial wolf pack living in the wild, foraging for food and getting by on pure survival instinct.

Sadly this damaging dominance theory is still championed by some trainers. Ceaser Milan is one such 'trainer'.

The solution
Get to know your dog! Be kind to your dog! Form a strong bond with your dog! They are not trying to dominate you! They are looking to you for guidance. We teach our dogs, at Woodys how to do what we want them to do with shaping and positive reinforcement. We ignore the bad (where safe to do so) and we praise the good. Every contact is a training opportunity for you and your dog! Make it count, make it positive by showing praise and kindness.
