🐝Bee and wasp stings 🐝
Curious dogs and cats are at risk of getting stung by bees and wasps. Stings can be irritating and painful. If your pet has been stung and has significant swelling to the face, trouble breathing or if you are concerned about your pet then do not hesitate to contact us.📞
In many cases though, you can monitor your animal at home and do the following:
❌Restrain your pet safely and try to remove the stinger by scraping a credit card over the affected area (wasps and hornets don’t leave stingers behind). Don’t use tweezers or your nails as you could end up squeezing more venom into your pet.
💧You can soothe the area by bathing it in cool water and if they will let you you can apply an ice pack wrapped in a clean tea towel (or a bag of frozen vegetables or cold damp towel) to the affected area for around 10 minutes.
🐝To neutralize the sting you could use bicarbonate of soda on bee stings (which are acidic) and vinegar on wasp stings (which are alkaline).
❌Do not give your pet any medication unless you are directed to by a Vet.
💙Please monitor your animal closely and contact us for advice if you are concerned📞
Prevention is better than cure!🩺
Untreated high blood pressure in cats can lead to serious and irreversible damage to the heart, brain, kidneys and eyes, resulting in blindness in some cases. 🐾
By being proactive and booking your cat in for regular blood pressure checks, they could be avoiding the potentially life threatening consequences of feline hypertension 🐱
Please contact us at the Upton or Lowerwick branch for further information 📞

🐾It's #FelineHypertensionMonth which is why we're spreading awareness of how important it is to know the signs of high blood pressure in your cat
🐱Quite often, cats will show no noticeable signs of having high blood pressure. Subtle changes in behaviours can be a crucial indicator that something isn't quite right!
🐈Blood pressure checks are the best way to diagnose and screen for feline hypertension.
🗓Be sure to book regular checks for your cat.

🐈 Did you know that May is Feline Hypertension month?
🐱 High blood pressure in cats, also known as feline hypertension, is a potentially life threatening condition that occurs in around 1 in 5 cats over 9 years of age.
🐈⬛ This disease is treatable with medication, but 82% of senior cats don't receive blood pressure checks.
🐾 Call us today to get your cat booked in for their blood pressure to be checked in a consultation with one of our nurses
#CatBloodPressure #FHAM
Signs of feline hypertension are often invisible and unfortunately, many cats only show signs of hypertension after the disease starts to cause serious damage to their heart, brain, kidneys and eyes.🐱
🐈Make sure your cat is getting their blood pressure checked regularly! 🐾

💙 World Veterinary Day 2024 💙
🐾 Every year our team are involved with thousands of procedures. From health checks and vaccinations to life saving surgeries; from blood tests and biopsies to weight checks and dentals; it’s safe to say no two days are ever the same!
🐾 Every week we have the privilege of both meeting new friends at the start of their lives and of being trusted with the care for those nearing the end.
🐾 Our job is rewarding, challenging, humbling and heartwarming. It’s not always easy, but we are constantly in awe of the wonders of veterinary medicine and the resilience of the pets we treat. We never take our role for granted.
💙 World Veterinary Day is a chance to appreciate how lucky we are to be part of this profession, and to be able to work with such wonderful people and pets every day.

💙 The Stocks Vets are now on Instagram!
🐈 To those who don’t know us, we are a 2 branch small animal vet practice based in Upton upon Severn and Worcester.
🐕 We have a team of fantastic vets, registered veterinary nurses and support staff. All of our nurses and vets work between the 2 surgeries so you should always be able to book your routine appointments with your favourite member of the team!
🐾 Our main surgery is in Upton upon Severn where we offer a wide range of services including laparoscopic (sometimes known as keyhole) spay procedures, x-rays, dentistry including dental x-rays, and ultrasound imaging.
💙 Our Upton surgery has a large reception area with separate dog and cat waiting areas and we also have separate dog and cat kennels as well as an isolation kennel room for unwell pets.
🐾 We hope to share lots more with you here over the coming weeks and months and hope you enjoy seeing a little more of what we do!
☀️ Happy Sunday! ☀️
🐾 We hope everyone is as pleased to see some sunshine this morning as lovely mini dachshund Frankie is to be seeing one of our nurses on her regular visits for weighing, fuss and treats!
🐶 As part of her Pet Health Club membership Frankie comes in monthly for a check up and to sort out her next dose of flea and worm treatment.
💙 We love seeing gorgeous puppies like Frankie grow and love it when our patients are happy to see us!! What an excellent waggy tail she has! 💙
We would like you to meet Lia 🐾
Lia was in for laparoscopic spay (keyhole spay surgery)
Lia was a very good girl for her pre operative check (which she sat on the Vet Nurses lap for and had cuddles)
Lia then had her pre-medication, a catheter placed and pre oxygenation. She then had an endotracheal tube placed with inhaled anaesthetic gas and oxygen so that she was under anasthestic. This is to ensure Lia was comfortable and asleep for her procedure to be performed💙
You can see in the video that the clip patch is quite large, this is for sterility reasons and so the ovary can be hooked and removed safetly 🙌
As seen in the video, 2 small incisions are made into the abdomen and a special camera is passed through one of these ports. Instruments are then used to perform the surgery through the ‘keyholes’. Only the ovaries are moved in this technique as long as the uterus is healthy🤩
Then the 2 small port holes are stitched up after the ovaries have been removed 🐶
It didn’t take long for Lia to be back up and about and ready for some food during her post operative monitoring (and love and cuddles of course) from the Veterinary Nurse team 😋
If you are wanting to know more about getting your animal booked in for laparoscopic spay then please contact us for more information and get booked in for a pre operative check 📞
Dental scaling of teeth, wondering how we do it? 🦷
Watch in this short clip how well the ultrasonic scaling instrument is used up to remove the plaque and tartar from Thatchers teeth ✨
The scaler tool vibrates and sprays water to break up and wash away any plaque that has built up 🤩
Don’t forget about our dental offer that is on, and speak to one of our team about getting your pet booked in so they also have pearly whites like Thatcher 🦷 📞😍
The countdown is on at The Stocks Vets… only 12 days to go until Christmas Day 🎅🏼
Lilly, a gorgeous 11 year old English Springer Spaniel is really getting in to the Christmas spirit✨
Lilly has definitely chosen her favourite bauble on the Christmas tree 🎄
(Don’t worry this is one of our Vet nurses’ dogs who is obviously closely supervised and definitely knows that she isn’t allowed to touch anything else on the tree🤭)
Poppy thinks it is definitely coat season, and we completely agree 🧥🥶
🐶Happy National Dog Day! 🐶
Nothing can brighten your day quite like the wag of your dogs tail, but hopefully some photos of our staff dogs will spark joy 💫
From big to small, dogs bring so much happiness and unconditional love to our lives, and for that we are super grateful 💙
Please comment photos below of your dogs to celebrate just how lucky we are 🙌⬇️
⁉️ Trivia Tuesday … ⁉️
🕵️♀️ What do you think is in this video…?
🐾 Bonus points for where on an animal they might be found….!!

☀️ Hot weather tips for your pets ☀️ We hope everyone gets chance to enjoy the lovely weather over the next few days. 🐾 As always take care with your pets, missing one walk (or a few) won’t be a problem but walking or being outside without shade for prolonged periods is incredibly risky for your dogs in hot weather. 🌡️ Dogs and cats can’t regulate their temperature through sweating or wearing thinner clothes so really don’t adapt well to these temperatures. 💦 Fresh water should always be available. 🌳 Plenty of shade if outside. 🍔 Remember fatty foods can cause stomach upset including pancreatitis. 🍗 Bones or kebab skewers should not be fed to your dog. 🌽 Corn on the cob is a common BBQ food that if eaten can cause obstruction in the gut. ☀️ Enjoy the weather, we never know how much sun we’ll get in a British Summer so must make the most of it whilst it’s here!
Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at The Stocks Vets💙
We love all animals every day of the year, but it’s nice to see us all out and about with our own fur babies 🐾 🫶🏼
